The sky is a sigh, spread
Tree to tree,
Blue egg to blue
In a nest,
On flushed skin.
I take another sip
Of coffee --- moved
Having never left
My seat --- sun now creeping
Deck board grains.
Listen to the opening throats
Of the flowers in morning---
Measure growth, the day’s increase
In length and width, heavy hung
On the garden vine.
Traffic is backed up
on the expressway,
I am sure.

... and we don't care one little bit about all that traffic, do we?
LOL "Traffic is backed up" and here i sit with coffee flower throats birds--what I love about retirement, so well earned, so well spoken!
LOVE this:
"Listen to the opening throats
Of the flowers in morning"
Fantastic.
It's so nice not to have to worry about traffic on the expressway, but just to sit and savor what's in one's presence....with a cup of coffee in hand, of course! I gave a sigh of happiness when I read this.
Nature sure can be beautiful, but maybe the birds look at us in the cars sitting in traffic and think the same thing.
I love the notion of the sky being a sigh...
You teach me new ways to look at things. I never thought of open throat of flowers.
You have an awesome way of putting words together in unusual ways! I love it.
I love the total non sequitur of the last stanze...Brian I have a big smile!

Pictures. Your words make pictures in my mind and stimulate visuals that seem to be from another dimension in time and place.
So glad to be reading you again. I missed this.
A very clever poem.
"Blue egg to blue".....
you still got it, dude, just saying....
:)
nice..there's a certain sensuality in mornings..love the flowers opening their throats...mine over here yawn in the morning ya know and it's just that space between sleep and smooth awakening that i love so much
:) nice lines... The sky is a sigh ....lovely !
Good god, Brian. That is just gorgeous. From beginning to end.

Do I detect a smidgen of rhyme? Accidental, perhaps, as this seems very unstructured and free in every sense of the word. The sky makes a very good sigh, and being moved without leaving your chair is a good way to start the day.
you've captured the perfect way to enjoy the day
so nice. you've got to slow down to hear those throats opening, i imagine. this is the place to live, the place to be. this is making a moment.
Lovely.
Nice to have a lazy day and not have to worry about the traffic.
I sighed at your words,
restful blue egg to blue ~
Who cares for the traffic anyway ~
Happy Sunday ~
so many things to love in this,,,xx
that's just great. eat that much fruit, and then get on the freeway on backed up traffic. see if your face will start to look that this guys's face. i think it will!!!
Easing into the day...nice one Brian!
Happy Week, G :<)
Brian, You know way more about being a vegetable than Enrique or Arcimboldo put together! I relaxed into your poem and enjoyed the sun creeping the deck board grains. On my deck, the morning sun makes the same journey. Thank you for this perfect veg out. =D
Delicious... so simple yet so poetic. I guess with coffee even traffic is tolerable, but it's much better to be where the narrator is. I love the serene feel to this.
Another beauty, Brian, - striking up lovely images indeed.
a very lovely tangent spawned from the Mag prompt, and how wonderful that before you brave the journey to your place of harness, you meditate and breath in the blueness, lining your innards with caffeine and coolness. Like the line where the days lie /heavy hung on the garden vine/.
nice descriptive piece - capturing a place and moment in time, vignette-style... the blue-egg, the coffee, the expressway. I'd be inclined to drop the caps at beginnings of lines, the flow line-to-line might be smoother (not that it's stilted, particularly, just a thought :)
Oh, the long days of summer. Perfect.
It be soooooo nice not to have to worry about traffic any more
Well not worry but umm twitch at it when you have to go to your work shore
And of course switch twitch
With err umm itch
And just take in the day
Without a stupid need to go to ones work bay
nothing better than living slowly!
actually deeply breathing!
oh I loved that last line
'the opening throats of flowers in the morning'....lovely.
Oh, nice take on plenty.
I do like that twisty little end thought. (if you lived here, you'd already be home)
I love the opening throats of flowers!
The Bhagavad Gita- P. 93 of the version I am reading. (Paramhansa Yogananda ) Crystal clarity publishers / " " .com.
This made me think of morning glories and it made me smile.
Was enjoying the scene until you reminded me about the traffic :)
Lovely, enjoying being still. We don't have to go out to seek nature, it is within us.
Wonderfully rewarding...
That's what is beautiful about life. We can choose to be a part of the rat race or we can seek out the beauty of things around us. If I had to choose nature over traffic, it wouldn't be a tough call!
Measure growth, the day’s increase
In length and width, heavy hung
On the garden vine.
Oh, yes! :)
very nice. i love the final lines, the I am sure, says so much to me there. Really a lot of neat lines throughout, but those last 2 stanzas are particularly effective for me. Another excellent piece Brian
Such a pretty morning wake up call of visual imagery. I'm smelling the coffee now. :) Well done, Brian
Good morning,
I'm getting quite lethargic reading this...
All that growth will require dealing with some time. Mine anyways as the paths are overhung so badly that I have to crawl now :-)
Pour me one too while you're up.
Chill out & forget about the traffic! Listen to nature instead.

Nuts in May
"The sky is a sigh, spread tree to tree."
Classic...
Oohhh, don't lead me across the traffic way! Hehe Enjoyed the skyward moments in this piece :)
Like this very much. The last verse - pure inspiration! Must have been.
I love this, Brian. Especially the opening throats of flowers...beautiful image...
Just letting it all pass by, and loving every minute of the peace. Lovely.
Sounds pure bliss ...thank you for sharing x
How lovely and poetic and so summery I feel it from here where for some reason it is autumn
Oh, so lovely and idyllic!
ah --- sounds wonderful!
No worries about traffice when you're sitting on the front porch with coffee in hand and watching and listening to all God's creation. Beautiful and peaceful my love! (Glad there were no sounds of crashing trees to disrupt the peacefulness)!!
Traffic? What's that? Oh! When you get stuck behind a tractor. lol
Happy Monday
I could hear you reading this one. That's the first time that's ever happened...the rhythm in this is one that makes this extra fun to read.
You said it right, Brian. Morning is my favourite time of day... even the traffic can't disarm me.
I think I need to do this more often!
What a joy to not have to go in to work.
How beautifully calm, how beautifully written!!!
Sandi
Nothing quite like coffee on the deck and enjoying birdsong before facing the day!
It's funny how certain phrases bring something totally different to mind, i.e.:
"...heavy hung On the garden vine. "
When we lived on L.I., my in-laws had a tall lilac bush by the patio. One year an odd vine twined its way through. Quite interesting to find three pumpkins hanging in the lilac bush come Fall!! Truly "heavy hung on the garden vine!!!"
Thanks for sharing Brian, I always enjoy your stories!
I love the stillness in your moment and usually, it is with the very first one that we get. I hope that you hold on to it throughout the day.
To be rid of the traffic crawl is heavenly. Enjoy every grand moment at your leisure. Wonderful write Brian!
Hank
Don't think I've ever read a better description of the sky.
*sigh*
I loved this. It's nice to be (even briefly) removed from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Such a great writing! I enjoyed reading this!
borrow my eyes, borrow my ears
You did an good job with this prompt.
I like have you brought us into both worlds. Solitude and awaking from it.
That first line is amazing Brian....:-)
Now that sounds like a perfect morning! ;)
Love that moved having never left!! I just love the power of the mind and how boundless it is! Excellent poem and I too enjoy the contrast in the last portion with the lush beauty throughout! Smiles to you, Brian!
Oh to just be able to sit still and breathe a while.
Lovely.
:)
I'd expect to find this in a Tiffany box. ~Mary
You're quite an observer...much to see through your eyes!
Such a beautiful writing! I enjoyed reading it!
The sky is a sigh spread tree to tree.....listen to the opening throats of the flowers in morning..just two of the fantastic lines in your poem...always amazing to read what each person sees/hears in a prompt.
I like the lazy slowness of summertime here.
As long as there is enough coffee and good tunes... I can survive the wait....but if the coffee runs out and the traffic is stopped!!! Great images in your delightful poem too!
What a capture. "Listen to the opening throats
Of the flowers in morning" my favorites.
This almost describes my daily commute.;)) Hope you are having a great week dear Brian.;)
xoxo
What a beautiful meditation on appreciation of the natural world. One of your most satisfying reads for me. :)
Nice reflection on la Primavera (still in Italian mode). Of course, Arcimboldo (and hence, Gerde) were also concerned with the Four Seasons, so this is very appropriate.
I loved the "deck board grains"—Took me right there.
Wonderful imagery. And I love the contrast with your end reference to traffic.
This was so wonderful...
I'm glad that I don't have to worry about traffic backing up on the island. But anywhere close to the city is another story.
