Keep your eye on the sparrow
but it's a robin, nesting in the crook
of the tree by the driveway
head twisting over a shoulder & eyes
wide, upon me, she does not move
but shifts a wing to flash
a bit of blue underneath
& for a moment, Spring is a secret
whispered on my ear, alone
i take off my shoes, soul to the earth
in bare feet, a child, once
more before his Mother.

Wow, Am I the first?
Thats the way it makes you feel, isn't it? Getting so close to Nature.

Oh this is lovely...and so timely too.
Woohoo:
http://www.myreallifereviews.com/2012/04/april-prize-draw-at-my-real-life.html
guess who won?? Congrats!
Magical moments like this give us such joy.
I am bare foot walking in the grass this morning and enjoying the dew on my toes and the tickle on my instep. The robins share the lawn with me.
Just remember with those bare feet
To watch for that left over dog treat
No need for them to go brown
And make you frown
As you dig a hole to China or Timbukto
Which might be fun to do
As you bask in the dew
That came due
A whole lot of do
Is also fun to come due
Loved the ending...nice.
It has to be barefoot!
Thanks-
Ahhh... yes, tread lightly upon the earth. This is a lovely piece Brian. Feels like it could almost be a lullaby for babies. I have the urge to whisper it in case I disturb the fragile safety of the bird.
& for a moment, Spring is a secret
whispered on my ear, alone
...I love moments like these! I really enjoyed the barefoot connection with child/mother.
back to Mother Nature, I see.
oh wow...love the intimacy in this...the taking of the shoes..soul to the earth..and the secret of spring..oh it is a secret and i never get tired unriddling..
Spring is still a secret, here in Maine!
You know how to love.
No secret here! This is a sweet write Brian. :o)
I think I would draw the line at jumping into a nest! These pictures are getting more and more bizarre. LOL.
Very nice. Love the sentiment here. And way to use the prompt, which I do have to say is one neat picture, to fuel this piece. Fantastic job. Thanks
Very sweet. Great title here too. (I thought it was going somewhere else, but like where it went.)
The feeling of private spring so lovely--hiding in plain sight or flash of feather sheen. K.
You've painted a nice picture here. And the way you began and ended with a reference to mother's and children was a sweet touch Brian.
What a beautiful ode to spring, Brian. Just as good as any I have ever read! Hope you are enjoying your weekend.
This is beautiful, Brian:

Always nice to find a place to nest--and someone who will never turn you away. Nice, bri.
It's hard to get closer to nature than watching a mother bird on her nest. **as he takes off his socks****

"& for a moment, Spring is a secret
whispered on my ear, alone..."
Hi! Brian...
Your [very]poetic words are a "Breath Of Fresh" air this Sunday afternoon...
"i take off my shoes, soul to the earth in bare feet, a child, once more before his Mother."
...It seems as if when Spring/Summer approaches each year it invokes that emotion in some people...[not all, but Of course!]
Tks, for sharing the [very] "intriguing" image too!
deedee ;-D
Very evocative. Good one.
What a bizarre picture! You got it just right, Brian. That's what I think anyway... :-)
Tender and lovely, Brian.
Spring a secret whispered in your ear... What could be better than that ... Lovely :)
Delightful poem, very intriguing secret spring. Greetings.
I like this, Brian, very touching. I took it that you were connecting with Mother Earth, though I can also see the child/mother connection. It felt nurturing. Thanks for sharing. :)
Your keen observation gave us "head twisting over a shoulder & eyes
wide, upon me, she does not move" but I really smiled as I read "Spring is a secret...". That is poetry!
I like the idea of Spring being a secret, only sherd with those chosen to hear.
How lovely -- simple and elegant.
Oh, that's pretty!
...& for a moment Spring is a secret whispered on my ear, alone...
Bringing tears of emotion to my eyes, not really sure why...I know now, because it's so beautiful. Thank you :-)
What beautiful simplicity in your words. I love the re-birth of spring and all things new...love you too! <3
Can't get much closer to nature than this.
sounds wonderful and nice Brian, maybe all is a secret, the life, or love or joy, all..nice :)
Nice. Being barefoot in the grass especially in the spring) is rebirth.
this is a lovely piece-especially the last verse- it quite literally took my breath away.
So love that line "take off my shoes ...". Such a perfect spring melody!
On an island called San Isabel I got to stand within a few feet of a hatchery (ok, so it was on a cliffside and kinda scary) but this poem reminded me of that feeling.
I felt your roots growing. I love the imagery and how the shifts are very subtle. Thinking you see something, then realizing its something else...no, something else. Enjoy your month. I'll be reading and trying to comment. It's going to be crazy and awesome.
wow, I take off my shoes, soul to the earth. I want to write like you! :)
Love those robin eggs. So pretty!
Ahh, the simplest of things can trigger our entry into the psychedelic kaleidoscope!
What a gentle and different direction to go!
I like this Brian...I thought of a nest and the mother when I saw the picture. I like that we are reminded to be children before her once more ~
There's a feeling of a return to innocence at the end there that feels wonderful. Liked this piece very much.
Yeah, I kind of feel this way too.
You remind us that any vision, grand or mundane, can become a prayer! Beautiful!
Your poem has captured the essence of spring and my heart..... 'in bare feet a child once more before his Mother.' beautiful, Brian.
I like the thought here Brian. Though we had a cold and rainy weekend here and I'll have to look for robin eggs when the sun makes a reappearance.
"but shifts a wing to flash
a bit of blue underneath" -
plus bare feet and soul to the earth!
i can feel that connection! nice brian ;-)
Last stanza: swoon. I wish I wrote that. Beautiful.
I love this poem and thoughts!!
A lovely, mystical quality..you see so much..
That last stanza is beautiful.
I understand every word of this poem.
A perfect ending.
Happy Sunday, jj
another good one Brian..thanks for sharing your words again
'spring is a secret whispered in my ear'....this line is so beautiful.....well the whole thing is but this made me feel a bit teary!! xx
Fantastic! It sparks all kinds of thoughts and feelings in me.
It's just great the way you can tell a story and write a beautiful poem at the same time. Lovely and serene, Brian.
*kindly excuse my laziness - not signing in* :)

A child once before a Mother ! wow, I like the feeling of oneness with nature in your poem and hey its great that you visited my blog :)
Sharing the newness of the season...spring has arrived.
Beautiful!

'spring is a secret whispered in my ear'
Beautiful.
robins, bare feet - spring beautifully captured!
"i take off my shoes, soul to the earth" is my favourite bit. However lovely piece, a moment beautifully captured.
Love it! Last stanza - perfect!
Anna :o]
Oooh, lovely Brian. As always.

Oh the fancies we have when we are totally alone - one with nature!
Wonderful, child-like sense of unity with the earth. I loved this!
No earthly chance I can say something that hasn't already been said here, Brian... I saw that someone else also felt this way, but that last stanza is really beautiful (and non-denominational, if you get my drift?). As always I'm in awe!!! *smile*
Robins home to nest, a perfect spring analogy. Nicely done, Brian.
Your opening line reminds me of the beautiful old hymn...lovely write Brian...
It's so lovely to watch the birds and to feel one with mother earth. There are a pair of blackbirds I observe from my window and visitors of all kinds of tits. The nightingales have just arrived and will be with us for about six weeks or so.
I feel as though I've witnessed a private moment. You articulated it so well.
This one is lovely, Brian.
=)
"i take off my shoes, soul to the earth" what a wonderful thought. I think I shall go do this. :)
Oh, what a perfect description of spring!
Oh, very lovely. Thanks. : )
Oh I do love spring:) Such a vivid picture!
I like all your writings. The time I spend watching a bird's nest can be a thought on parenting. Feed the kids and teach them to fly, This will take time and sometimes you just have to sit on them and let them grow up. (LOL)
Spring is such a lovely time of year.. this reminds me of watching a robin (in 1973) who had constructed a nest in a tree in our front yard. We had a great vantage point through a wall of windows to watch its comings and goings ... only problem ~~ the robin was so FAT that taking off and landing were real problems. We named the poor creature 'Fat Robin' and still talk about him all these years later .................
to touch the earth is to touch life eternal
I love watch a bird nest, in theory. In reality, they wake up much earlier than I do and leave a mess. Welcome spring.
you really got into the nitty gritty of what is going on in the picture. you see the things, and then interpret the meanings in a very plausible fashion.
I don't want you to take this the wrong way - but this is the kind of stuff *I* write. Which means I like it. A lot :)
The rock hard strength of this poem is that 3rd stanza. Man, that's masterful. It's the punch the poem gives at just the right moment. Plus, a short verse poem for you Brian. Love reading a poem by you formatted that way. A nice change man and a great poem.
I'll take off my shoes before you anytime ... Excellent post, Brendan. Love, cat.
This is beautiful and perfect for the Easter season Brian! I adore this poem! :-)
Spring is in the air. The robins and sparrows take a new form. Great write, Brian!
Hank
Love 'Spring is a secret, whispered in my ear alone.' Exactly how I feel sometimes -- but then I'm compelled to share that secret.
That photo freaked me out. I'm going to be careful peeking into any nests in future, Brian!
I loved this. It had a surreal quality that was perfect.
awake and aware, approaching nature childlike... I like it very much brian :)
oh brian.
this is perfect.
I think I may be stumped by this mag prompt...not your poem, the prompt:-) good poem Brian...I often wish nature spoke to me this way, not often.
Wander
Such moments are so magical... feeling nature so close is beautiful :)
Loved the last paragraph...
Btian, this poem gave me the chills.
Packs a lovely punch - fantastic last stanza. You just keep rockin' it!

I can feel the wisps of earthy nature - beautiful work as always Brian! Also, that picture is almost unnerving - not sure why!
Eve
nice. That picture is fun.
nice. That picture is fun.
We have a Carolina wren in the newspaper box. And there are others nesting around the yard. Spring is in full fling.
Lovely!
I'm simply awestruck.
I see the pictures with your words. I am impressed.
Ahhhh...lovely image. Great ending.
I've got beautiful visions of motherly love here!
Feet to earth, bird to nest - life is wonderful!
soul to the earth in bare feet. that's the sort of line i wish i had written:)
Poetry for spring well done...
I often feel this way.
=)
Very inquisitive and innocent words. Loved it. :)
terrific ending, rebirth is a mystery
I like this very much Brian and the creative approach you took. Sorry to take so long to comment but it has been crazy at our house this week with my mother in law's funeral. I really do enjoy your work very much. I have long wondered if you really wear your hair in the style in your profile picture or if it is from some former stage of your life. LOL
I loved Tess' prompt so I jotted one down quickly
A curious picture
I like the way you addressed spring
I love this.
So very sweet, this poem. I think you really tapped into this image - it is soothing and comforting.
I love watching the birds outside...always put out food in winter to see them come close . Robins can be quite nasty to other birds though.
Oh, Brian, those last two lines really got me. Love this one.
I haven't been following on PJ, but I'm so glad I read this, Brian.
A really lovely poem. Thank you!
