the shaving of a woman's legs is a sacred act,
an art in confession of sins, liturgy repeated in long
and short strokes, a commitment to memory
each turn with tender care not to nip skin,
yet remain intimate enough to re-create silk & lace
---
different from a man's face, that can take
it rough---i use no soap or cream on my own,
preferring just the blade to scrape flesh fresh
a kiss along the heartbeat beneath
---
tap, tap, tap the head on the edge of the sink
to clear the teeth, rinse, repeat, against the grain
she likes to watch, says i make a face
in the mirror, lips pursed in concentration,
eyes pinched, she thinks is sex, distilled
the bite of mouthwash after brushing
and squeak of tongue, a-cross born
like shaving legs
like loving you,
even on nights that you don't
or not on nights you do
when all you need is held
like sacraments placed on the tongue
past the lips, to the accompaniment
of 'broken for you'
like the razor & pulse felt
i...i...i---& u & all pleasure under heaven
comes in a box, with one instruction,
daily acts of devotion
and if it last more than four hours
there's---no need to consult a physician.

It is a sacred ritual, so it is Brian! Have not much on the face unlike a Turkish friend Umur. He had to repeat it in the evening, everyday. Or else he looked hairy before sleep. Just shows to each his own, I guess!Great verse!
Hank
Wow..wee! first on the list!
Hank
Intimate, tender and nice Brian, but of course you are a really special man:)
Brian~ I love the contrast between the shaving... and the sounds and textures throughout... but my favorite is:
i...i...i---& u & all pleasure under heaven
comes in a box, with one instruction,
daily acts of devotion
very intimate & beautiful it takes some well-thought words to find a metaphor for love that's not cheesy. I love all the sounds I can here through this scene.
My favorite stanza:
"like shaving legs
like loving you,
even on nights that you don't
or not on nights you do
when all you need is held
like sacraments placed on the tongue
past the lips, to the accompaniment
of 'broken for you'
like the razor & pulse felt"
Yeah I like this one!
Daily, huh? I 'll have to think
on daily- nope more rare. Got too much zoom still... but I am glad you and yours do! Have a great one-
Love the perspective, compare and contrast. You have taken the humdrum, everyday ritual and made it into something sublime.
I like the contrast of the ritual, between the man and woman. Still it is the "daily acts of devotion" that holds us together. Great post Brian ~
God...Brian. You do it every time, SO much, love tender, sex, humor, and grooming, all in one succinct, perfect package. Well, it is perfect, to ME!
Beautifully said, Brian. Love it!
Nice, Brian. We were thinking along similar lines today. Ain't love grand, dude?
A ritual I don't interrupt
Or I could corrupt
But yeah the same with me
Take it and slash it about and off with thee
Then all done
And ready to run
Like that version so much better too
As consulting a physician is so germy it's ewww..haha
Great translation of the mundane into your own sublime dialect.
First, I have to wonder if you did indeed shave your legs in order to write such a description, Brian, because you got it pretty right. Also, to love a woman with hairy legs is to love completely!
The title really captured my interest. (I've watched too many middle of night commercials. LOL.) But then it went on to be a most beautiful love poem. Very nice, Brian.
The intimacy of watching each other groom themselves. LOVE the sexiness of the prose.
I come from a different generation where privacy is the word. HOWEVER, henceforth I shall view the grooming process with new eyes because your words dictate that I should... smiles.
Wonderful tribute to all the "other" acts of love. Beautifully said, Brian.
It is an act of intimacy when the man shaves the woman's legs or when the woman shaves the man's face. Beyond just grooming. This is beautiful writing, we need more people like you writing about the sensual aspects of relationships.
ah, love this...super sexy and a kiss along the heartbeat beneath....ah sweet!
have a great day - :)
"daily acts of devotion" - there's the key to a successful relationship, Brian. Loved this! (and cracked up at the 4 hours line) :)
daily acts of devotion, indeed. A tender, and as always, unique view of love. I adore the 4th and 5th stanzas (are they separate, or one?). Beautiful stuff, sir. Thank you.
B, I'll be out all day and will be late to the OLN party. But I wanted to let you know I posted a new word list this week.

And that I put a slammin' new playlist on my other blog; I think you'll really dig it ... maybe while you're reading tonight.

Mmmm....very nice, Brian. Intimate, tender write...loved that last line! :)
You romantic, you!
"to scrape flesh fresh
a kiss along the heartbeat beneath" - sets the tone so well, and to end with such a smile for the four hour rule ;-) very nice! brian, thanks!
Awwww, I am a sucker for the sweet and intimate thoughts surrounding what COULD BE a mundane and dull activity.
Your love for T pulses through this as usual! Perfect!
Rituals are built into us, I think--we need them because they formalize things we feel overwhelmingly but can't express strongly enough in words. Only you could write a love poem about shaving, bri--and such a good one.
"& all pleasure under heaven
comes in a box"
Best line of the day...
Wander
Wow... who knew shaving could be sooooo... yummy!
Delicious and sensual and just so lovely to be lucky to share a glimpse of your shared love. It's a truly beautiful thing :) You are all so blessed to have each other.
As someone who hasn't been loved this way in a very long time, your evocative, stirring poem speaks volumes to me about your good way of loving, Brian. xxxj
This is so romantantic and sweet - and I do LOVE your scruffies and that face you make in the mirror. You know the one ;)
you packed a lot into this..the differences between men an women, the sacraments and also sacrifices of love, the tenderness and the work it is as well..a deep and moving piece bri...and no..no need to consult a physician..smiles
Well, SOME of us might need a physician after four hours...
heehee
;)
This is a steamy one, Brian. Starts with the mundane and then gets to it. The communion part is lovely, and that last line is worth a laugh and a half! Lex and I always make up comments about those commercials. Besides, we know it's all that occurs around and during the lovemaking that counts, not the "act" in and of itself... YOWZA! I'm calling Lex and telling him to come home early. Off to shave my legs... wink. Amy

Love it...tender and sweet and these lines are my favorite...i...i...i---& u & all pleasure under heaven
comes in a box, with one instruction,
daily acts of devotion
such an intimate look into your life. you are so lucky!
A well done piece of erotica here. Sensual, yet tender and the references to holiness is very nice as well. Thank you for stopping by my page to express your concern for my well-being. It's is very much appreciated Brian.
i didn't know that shaving legs was sacred, and a cultural custom thing...hmmmmm
cool piece Brian, love the scene as metaphor- really creative. Side note, oh, I've tried the soap and I've tried shaving to skin before and oh, I just can't do it- it burns the heck out of me and stings for days- is actually one of the reasons that first prompted me to grow a beard way back when. ouch, just thinking about the irritated skin…..really nice write, even with the nightmares lol
this is so beautifully romantic, as one who believes that true love lies in the realities of life, those little moments, you watching her, she watching you...
i think i now have a new favorite of yours!
Dee-f'ng-lightful. I love this. My act of devotion is brushing my wife's hair (on her head).
This was inspired, and I bow to your talent.
love this, beautiful, intimate... it's all been said - love the immediacy of it, as if I were her, or you, or... and I begin to wonder - there isn't really all that much that isn't sacred, is there? (when it comes right down to the nitty-gritty?)
You have such a talent of conveying intimate scenes or events that lead the reader to feel the vision you are describing! Awesome love xoxo
Taking the moments some find mundane and placing magic and love into them. This is really such a joyful piece,Brian! Thank you and smiles to you!
I like the voice change betwen the woman shaving her legs and the man shaving his face. Great job!
I love this Brian. The wordplay here is simply amazing. I am stunned.
Cheers,
Mark Butkus
Fabulous (she thinks of her own legs and imagination takes off) *wink*
This is the way love is, delighted in the everyday forms of life, making sensuous out of practical and a dance because done with another. Beautifully done.
You captured the daily routine between the man and the woman but still its the "daily acts of devotion" that holds us together.
Great read ~
oh Man Brian - this is the bomb,
romantic but cool - back sack crack, smooth and all: excellent
Love the intimacy...some think that sex is the pinnacle of intimacy..it is all those moments of bonding, caring, sharing....beautiful piece.
Such loving attention to detail - the tap-tap on the sink. There is something powerful in ritual, however mundane it might seem on the outside. You make this one sacred! Thanks, as always.
like shaving legs
like loving you,
even on nights that you don't
or not on nights you do
when all you need is held
like sacraments placed on the tongue
past the lips, to the accompaniment
of 'broken for you'
Loved this Brian--lovely detail--and just a true sense of loving expressed in the act of shaving for the two of you--
cool write sir... you make a sex face when you shave? giggles...
missed ya now that imperfect prose is on "break" :) - - love the, the moments when our necks are bare, and we expose all...here in lies, life.
What lovely words, true devotion always told in those little everyday acts that sometimes fly by without taking notice. It's these moments where love lasts through the hard times, as well as the good. BTW I just started shaving "bareback". All that time wasting money on shaving cream!
Nice contrast of two kinds of shaving with a fun turn at the end.
If it lasts longer than 4 hours, I'm callin' an escort service! oops! the sensitivity and rough edges you show here are a nice contrast.
Bah dum bump! Love that lst line, Brian!
Well...blush! I feel like a guilty fly on the wall stealing a moment from your daily rituals. At the same time...thanks for taking my mind off things. We are well, we are healing, and I am so happy your number came up in my list! Working away boss!
Who knew shaving could be so sexy? Very nice. Wonder if my husband will let me watch him shave before bed tonight? 0_0 ;)
Here I am in the BrianMiller queue
lucky to finally get to the comment
box. Love your poetics, very steamy,
very soul-revealing in terms of you
being a "special man", father, husband,
and poet extraordinaire. This one just
sneaks up on us and gives us a
dry shave Brazil; thanks. Remember
the Who lyrics, "Mama's got a squeeze box,
and Daddy plays it all night long"?
how you make poetry out of the simplest thing...
how you make poetry out of the simplest thing...
Hmmmm....delicious.
Very sensual, Brain, carefully attained smooth legs (Venus), the rugged man (Mars) ... and fours hours of pulse felt (no physician needed). Awesome!
To capture intimacy in a way that makes the reader sigh and feel contented in the "everyday," you have a talent of doing that each time. You write with a thoughtful pen, my friend. Nicely penned!
With or without hair
I don't care!!
yum, I enjoyed how shaving one's leg is symbol to much more, well done as usual dear sir :)
It may last longer than four hours...
BUT I MAY NOT!
I don't see any beauty in that annoying bit of maintenance but it doesn't stop me from doing it 365/365.
That was sexy.
Oh Brian!1 Tender, tender!
You just get better with each poem, but there is a tenderness to this one I have not seen recently.
Intimate and oh so lovely.
Lady Nyo
interesting look at the act of shaving. there is something sacred about it, both personal and yet done for others, for the self and the self you expose to others. well done.
You've turned a basic (and often brutal) ritual into a sensuous romantic interlude. this has to be magic.
Test
"daily acts of devotion". Too often they go unnoticed and you have reminded us so beautifully Brian!
In true love you appreciate all those little things. Beautiful write. :)
Love the switch from tender intimacy to humor at the end, very nice! I'm guessing waxing just doesn't hold the same appeal lol.
it feels so good to be watched and loved when doing something like shaving our bodies, which is so unlike how we would act receiving any official sacrament in church.
I loved this!!!!
Aw, this is so sweet and romantic, Brian..Love it!
Ha. This has such sweet pacing, like the razor heating up, moving along and up, up and down, very nice. K.
Wonderful piece Brian. Loved the way you bring out the differences between a man and a woman.
I love the way you sauce up such drudgery as shaving :)
I would very much like to see you sex up laundry.
What more can be said, other than visually exciting.
I highly enjoyed it! A great read, Brian!
Thanks for stepping into my world and leaving your thoughts!
:)
Very nice how you capture the intimacy between two people in a daily routine so beautifully and sensually...
Like how you have connected both the acts...intimate and pleasurable.
Finally made it to your side of the poetic world Brian, and I'm glad I did. Such a beautiful, tender, rolls-off-the-tongue kinda piece. :)
"Intimate enough to re-create silk and lace..." wow! well, who knew shaving could be sexy...LOL...this is so sensual...Loved it! :)
"daily acts of devotion"
that's it! that's romantic love in four words ~ done because we want to... because we can't help it... THAT is it!
i adore this poem, brian! one of my favorites!
This is gorgeous. Sexual and cerebral. Great mix!
Is that what that thing is for.. :-)
Loved the playful sensuality of this piece, evoking the simplicity of companionship that can still bridge our connections in such intimate ways. wonderful! ~ Rose
amazing!
good one brian. but if shaving legs will take four hours then a lot of other works will get too jumbled up :)
imagine someone shaving his face for four hours!!!!!!
There is a timelessness that you capture here, and a reminder too, of daily simplicity in love.
There IS something sexy about watching a man shave.. I think it may be the blade against the throat thing. the fact that a man lives on the edge every day.
Great write Brian. Insightful, intelligent and strangely tender. I loved it!.
I feel like a voyeur looking in your window, and I've got to admit, I kinda like it!
beautiful snapshot of long standing (and contented) intimacy here Brian. really enjoyed this.
you are the most unique poet I know. The way you tell a story paints a clear picture in my mind! You're full of unique talent my friend!!!
This is so, so wonderful. Love the sensuality and the 4 hours twist. Make me look at shaving my legs in a whole new light.
A fresh take on an intimate ritual Brian. Much enjoyed.
Wow...buddy you sure can weave the intimacy with the slips of humor so well...nicely done!
This absolutely one of your very best Brian. I adore it :)
Subtle and soft
steady as she goes
abrasive and rough
intertwined,
right
we give too much over to our doctors these days,
don't call the physician.
Excellent.
hell, this is beautiful. intimate. sensual & sweet at the same time. i'm really kinda speechless.
Enjoyed the weaving of "intimacy" throughout. Here are some of my favorites:
"re-create silk and lace"
"different from a man's face, that can take it rough" ... excellent contrast between this and the former
"tap, tap, tap the head on the edge of the sink" ... nice sound
"eyes pinched, she thinks is sex, distilled"
"or not on nights you do
when all you need is held" ... I love that you left out "to be [held]"
Love the tongue repetition:
"squeak of tongue" and "sacraments placed on the tongue"
The idea of being "broken for you," one spouse for another, is such a perfect image of what marriage was created for, how we are supposed to love sacrificially, laying down our own lives for each other.
"comes in a box" ... you cracked me up with this one
If the daily acts of devotion last more than four hours, you might have to consult the want-ads. We wouldn't want to lose our jobs. :)

an art in confession of sins???
I love the way this went and the smile it gave me at the end.
This is awesome because you thought of a poem while shaving and its so cool and its very articulate
Aaaha. Nice, especially 'daily acts of devotion.'
Oh, Brian.
This one, made me laugh.
If it lasts more than 4 hours, no need to consult a physician.
So smart ass funny, loving, tender, all at once.
I loved this one.
BIG SMILES from it. Thank you.
This one wowed me completely.
Beautiful as always.. and such an amusing finish.
