or watching one of those
home make-over shows on TV
that make you cry
when i slip into
the bathroom
to do my business
fifteen or twenty minutes
go by
before i emerge to continue
on about the evening
we play games
or whatever until bed,
your body to my back
with nothing but heartbeats
between us
& when you rise in
the morning,
a soft click as the light comes on
in the bathroom, door
closing, i wait in the warm
spot of your leaving
listening for the shower,
that never thunders through the wall
and i smile
knowing you found it
sorry about wearing your eye liner
down & i'll clean the mirror
when you want
but when that feeling hits
in the pit of your being
some love notes
just won't wait.
As of yet, she has not asked me to clean off the note I left for her on the mirror. Go figure.

i am... smiles... this is lovely brian...and you may never have a clean mirror again in the bathroom...smiles..
when miriam left to bolivia, she wrote a love note on the chalkboard in the floor...and we didn't clean it for a year...smiles
If she's like me, she'll never clean it. Sweet!
oh, how wonderful to read this truly beautiful writing before i shut dowm my computer for a while!
you are such a romantic and your wife is one lucky girl!
simply beautiful writing!
when I next visit you, I'll have a new granddaughter.
heading to Denver soon as my daughter is having contractions.
i'm so excited i can hardly contain my joy!
c'ya later!
take care!
smiles ...
Tara Miller is one lucky woman, for sure. And no doubt, you're one lucky man. So romantic.
Awwww so sweet!
You are such a romantic!
This? Is awesomeness, squared. Love it.
I would never clean it.
Ever.
=)
I'm sure she didn't mind that much about her eyeliner. :)
That's the kind of dirty mirror I like. :-) What a guy!
Nice and lovely and I'm glad I didn't stop at the first half of that sentence about eye liner--I paused long enough to think, Brian with eye-liner--then read on... She should be impressed even as the steamy bathroom causes the eye-liner note to run down the mirror.
Awww getting all lovey dovey your way
With a love note display
But I'm sure it keeps the fire lit
So that kind of dirty mirror doesn't give my ocd a fit
I'd be buying a new mirror, and keeping the old one as art--heart to heart art. I do like the way your mind works, brian.
Yeah. What they said. How wonderful to read a man's love poetry about his wife. Makes a person feel better about lots of things.
*sigh* she's a lucky girl, that one. and a love poem in eyeliner does not qualify as "dirt" therefore the mirror does not need to be cleaned.
awww so sweet Brian! my stepdad used to leave mssgs all over for my mom, & when she found one she looked like a teenager in her face ... i always thought how sweet was that :-) happy day!
It's the little things that mean a lot. I left my love a note and placed it under the keyboard when I flew back to the UK for a while, she found it a week later when she noticed a piece of paper poking out from beneath it. Needless to say, it caused happy tears.
You are such a romantic, you two are so lucky to share such love :)
Oh my gosh - you are such a romantic! How wonderful!
You are a rare breed of man, my man!
Love.this.
She should take a photo of the mirror before it gets cleaned away..
yes.. romance
At least is washes off easily enough, not that I would want to. Not right away at least. :)
Such a sweet act of love. We've gotta get you some post-its for your nightstand. :)
This is great...I wouldn't erase it!!
Simply beautiful. So true love notes just won't wait.
LOVE this! I LOVE the LOVE between you guys !! Ah, romance is alive and well and it is not even February 14th !
"nothing but heartbeats between us" and "I move into the warmth of your leaving" Beautiful. I'm wondering how you topped such phrases as these with you note. I hope she never washes the mirror again. You're a good man Brian.
I used to leave notes
on my husband's steering wheel,or written on his window so when it fogged up he's see it
He was a cop then
you never knew
How sweet this was of you
I hope your boys see it
good learning material
and wonderful poem
"i wait in the warm
spot of your leaving"
This is my favorite part. :)
How can you leave us hanging like that, not telling us what you wrote?! Remind her to take a picture of the mirror before you clean it.
And Sage, I had the same image in my head of Brian putting on his wife's makeup. That must be for another poem, though. And I don't believe for a second that he hasn't done it already.

How sweet! No one would complain if the 1st thing they see is a message from someone telling them how much they love and appreciate them.
Ah, the mystery of love, and this is such a sweet pure expression of it...
I think we need to clone you Brian, It is so nice to read a mans point of view on such things. You both are very lucky to have such a love. Your love shows in all you say and do. very nice.
Aww, love notes on the mirror? You just keep on getting better. I love how you keep romance alive. ♥
the way you introduced the eye liner had a touch of naughtiness to it. excellent stuff.
You need to be cloned ~ seriously.
Sounds like the kind of thing I'd do... on a good day... for the right person. :)
Notes on the mirror? Why, that's absolutely romantic.
Awesome poem -- and I love the note on that the note on the mirror is still on view!
What a romantic! You are so special, Brian. She is a very lucky woman. Glad you share so much of yourself not only with her, but also with all of your fans. :-)

Love this...very sweet! Romance does live. I have found notes in little spaces. Once, someone else found one before me, when a guest lifted the lid off a little candy dish. She said how sweet and put the lid back on. I thought she was talking about the kitty cat candy dish...until a few days later when I lifted the lid and saw the note that had been there for awhile. It's still there. We also write notes on the mirrors with soap : )
closing, I wait in the warm spot of your leaving, I like that line.
Wow! Your wife is a lucky lady! :)
Nice to see the warmth of love is blazing hot. Tara is being taken care of a loving soul romantically alive with little notes and all. Life is for the living and you register it all most beautifully!
Hank
Who needs a mirror in the bathroom anyway? ;-)
Such a romantic guy...now go buy her a new eyeliner. :)
I love that you are such a romantic!
Sweet and romantic... I love it!..

How romantic! She's one lucky lady to have married a poet. Pete wrote a poem for me before we married but that's it. He doesn't even read my stuff. So you're one lucky guy, too.
This is just so loving, all of it and makes me feel so warm inside. What a fortunate wife you have; and I am sure she feels the same about you!
Love the title "Maintaining Positive Balances" - you are spot on that love makes balance possible.
You can finish your "Bathroom Business" in 15-20 minutes?
Talk about speed dumping!!!
Oh my, at first I thought you were wearing the eye liner. My husband does that for me. Leaves me notes on the mirror or shower doors in my red lipstick. Loved this one!
And she may not ever. :-)
Awe, bet she doesn't make you clean it for a long time, or maybe you'll clean it soon, 'cause the urge strikes you again.
aww sweet lovely and a li'l spicy ... gr8 write.
Lovely.
Definitely 'bunny stamp' material.
Just beautiful ... my hubby leaves little post-it notes on my desk for me to find as well as drawing hearts in the steam of the bath mirrors!
how sweet is this...made my night ~
That was so sweet! :)
I always love finding your love notes - especially first thing in the morning and that feeling of nothing between us but heartbeats...most definitely. Makes the day that much better! Thank you for loving me the way you do....
Wow ... wow ... wow! There is not much more to say ... your love is palpable!
Secret Agent Man is out of town this week and he left me a love note in my lunch bag before he took off.
It really is the little things...
So nice. :)
that was so real. So nice to read. thanks.
This warms my heart to read...I agree with Claudia...you may never have a clean mirror again...smiles
Awww! this is romantic...I left a note for my hubby only once and was he floored?
Beautiful.
Ah - so lovely and sweet! Wonderful.
wow! wonderful read :) someone's romantic!
I hoped to see Tara's response to your ultra-romantic gesture and was glad I read right through to the end. I love the romance between you two.
Dear Brian, as a fellow romantic I recognize the sentiments. I too have my life filled with love notes, of any kind and in any form. They are the spice and the spark that keeps the fire burning.
This is a great post and I savoured every word...
;)
xoxo
As I type these words, I have a huge smile on my face. A love not like that is awesome. I would not clean the mirror at all!! Hopefully I can see good enough to put on my makeup!!
Ha!!
Hugs

Do you give lessons to men who don't have that gift? I'd like to sign someone up. ha.
You do know Vaseline is the invisible ink of the love note on the mirror, right?
Msg. still there? That is the ultimate husband atta-boy.
You romantic man, of course the note must stay up as long as possible. I hope she took a pic of it.
Awww, that's a lovely poem, Brian. You old romantic, you!!

"sorry about wearing your eye liner
down & i'll clean the mirror when you want but when that feeling hits in the pit of your being some love notes
just won't wait..."
Hi! Brian...
I usually, don't like to use these terms after reading emotional poems, but your words in this poem to Mrs. Tara Miller are:[very] Romantic, [very]sweet,[very] thoughtful and [very] loving.
Thanks, for sharing!
deedee ;-D
Brian you are a very good poet, very good, damn good!!!
I am now going to be one of the plethera of followers!
A beautiful poem, Brian. I love the image of the writing on the mirror.
Pamela
Beautiful! Perhaps I'll print a copy and leave for my husband to read....lol
this was cute brian :)
LOL i dont think she will mind her eyeliner getting ruined.
Oh my goodness...so glad I didn't get to this one immediately following the last one. :-) I have to say I think your love poems are the best, but I was always a Rod McKuen fan growing up so....
aw, lovely and romantic and... but somehow in a real way. I love nothing but heartbeats
between us and yeah, wouldn't mind the mirror love notes written in my eyeliner either {smiles}
Brian!

How did you learn to do just the things that a wife needs??
Of course she won't let you take it down.
I would die with that still under layers of dust, up there.
"nothing but heartbeats between us"
I love that.
Great job. jj

You're the sweetest guy ever.
Nice that you left that note. So much better than a text message.
What did you write??? I once wrote on the mirror; "this bathroom needs cleaning". Didn't get the response I wanted. Funny that!
