why men have nipples
is one of those things
i can't explain
like why we don't believe in global warming
when it's 76 degrees
on December 15
or that we only pierce the night
with light, one season yearly
all i know is,
Santa should not walk the streets
shirtless,
nor his children go hungry.
Over at dVerse today, Gay is leading everyone in Caroling and Lullabies if you are looking for some poetic fun. I still may write one yet.

This is too cool. Did you see the stuff about the nude Santa's in San Francisco? It was 11 here yesterday morning so I'm having my doubts about global warming. It's been in the low teens for a couple of weeks early morning but no snow. :0( Fun post, Brian. Thanks for linking it.
I wish every day was like today. But I still don't believe in global warming. :) Yeah, why do men have nipples?
I don't want to see santa without a shirt. I don't want to imagine santa shirtless. I don't want to picture his nipples in my mind. Nooo... I just had a mental image of piercings!
Who could deny global warming when December 15 is like a spring day? Only those who can't see past themselves. Well done.
Global warming is a punishment sent by God because of the proliferation of homosexuality! (tongue planted firmly in cheek)
Right on man, right on!
Really great dilemma of the nipples in man.
Why do men have nipples? Because they would look weird without them. Teehee.
I am just swamped with seasonal stuff right now - concerts and general craziness, but I too, wonder why we only pierce the dark with light once a year...
It's 45 here in Maine in the middle of December. Unbelievable!
You never know--women might die off--then you'd need nipples....and a few other things. ;_) Great 55, bri--no one, santa or otherwise, should have to walk the streets hungry and homeless.
It's freezing here in the Bay area, but I agree with your conclusions about hungry children and shirtless Santas.
=)
Great 55! I don't know why we can't believe what we can see with our own eyes either, but we all do it sometimes. :)
P.S. It's only 60 here in southern CA today. Not overly warm for us this time of year. :)
I do know the answer to the nipple question. We are mirrors of each other. The female anatomy is very similar to the male only smaller in parts and larger in others. The reproductive chamber is the part that is really different. Men are interesting on the outside and women on the inside. Global warming is happening but the average person doesn't measure or understand gas changes in the ocean or believe in the disappearance of glaciers...wierd.
You've got that right, Brian. That shouldn't happen to Santa or anybody.
Too many unexplained questions...hunger is number one. With the resources of this planet no one should be hungry or without shelter. This drives me crazy to think about it!
It's been close to 80 here in Orlando this week...
Men have nipples so I can rub ice cubes on them and giggle. hee hee. Hard nipples! hee hee
True mysteries indeed. I have often wondered why men have nipples! Not much good to me!! Santa should be in shirt sleeves because he works so darned hard delivering all those presents he works up a sweat.
I have a hat like that.
With him, though, I am so afraid it might not be a hat.
Santa going about shirtless, I guess it's something I can not really control...
No children going hungry anymore, now this is something I can do something about :-)
Here's a question for ya...
Will you ever spread yourself so thin that you can't possibly visit ALL your minions?
The answer is yes!
Just remember something, Blogging is supposed to be FUN.
If you forget that, it becomes a chore.
Never lose sight of your 'Roots', or the things that got you where you're at.
Excellent 55.
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Thanks for the reminder G-man ~
As to the post, I think nature is freaking out now - why is it warm in the middle of December? I like your ending lines.. why is this so ?
I think I heard the reason for the nipple part. Apparently they form before the gender of the baby is determined or something.
nice post.. definitely no one should go hungry.. am following you now..
Yeah global warming is all a scam or one big conspiracy right?
Pffft, The only time it seems to take flight
Is when some dumb politician needs it in their favor
Then it's correct in it's flavor
Why there are nipples on us I have no idea though
Maybe so the lonely have something to fondle at their show?..haha
Interesting set of questions.. but a sad end ,,
Unexplainable questions.... so many in this world :P
the one u mentioned was a grave one LOL
Jokes apart, global warming is really a serious issue 4 which we all gotta think.
Awesome read !!
Kinda baffling. Wish I had the answers and I agree a shirtless Santa is unthinkable.
Okay, now I'm going to be pondering these questions all night. :)
He's shirtless BECAUSE it's 76 degrees on
december 15th! : )
Awesome poem. The questions are silly and yet thought-provoking so the serious comment at the end is more powerful. By the way, my male cat served as a surrogate mom to two kittens, and his nipples made great pacifiers. Just saying...
Brian, I always so appreciate your amazing poetry and the messages you share 'between the lines!'
Really liked this one!
Thank you and have a wonderful evening!
Smiles :):):)
I think the nipples are there just in case... in case they need to feed babies... in case they want a sex change...
We'll only believe in global warming when we're all fried!
our culture would suffer without the Santa everyone has conjured an image of over the years
hope the boys have fun this season with the festivities
All very thought provoking questions! :)
75 degrees in MICHIGAN? I might start believing in GW!
I'd gladly take a little global warming here in Oregon right now...
A lot of questions unanswered. Man and woman are destined to be different. But at some points there are similarities, it is the long and short of it. Great thinking Brian!
Hank
Did you know that men can actually lactate? That's right, it's possible for some, under certain circumstance, to nurse.
Men go shirtless to show off their body...it happens in Mumbai. As for why men have nipples? Take a wild guess..maybe some women like it.!!!LOL
Local weather proves nothing about global climate. I'm sure even Santa can understand, shirt or no shirt.
Great now all I can think about is men and their nipples!
When I was pregnant with my second child, my 3 year old son had a lot of questions about the baby-to-be. I remember explaining about how I'd be breastfeeding him. Jeffrey looked at his own chest and said "What about my nipples?" I mirrored his question with "What about yours? He looked at me.. then himself.. then shrugged and said "I guess mine are just decorations." ;)
I don't like the last line, Brian. I's too heavy, like rocks, it sinks the poem.
Do like men's nipples though... no matter that they are not necessary.
Nude Santas?
I like Hilary's little tale. Made me smile.
Nipples in men and male cats....big waste.
global warming...how can we deny this when the polar ice caps are melting like the wicked witch (my mother) of the west???/
Great post.
Lady Nyo
The first question was funny ;)
And yeah... you got me scared :( the picture is scary :(
I'm with Victoria: it's cool. Great humerous first stanza to get us going.
How can anyone not believe in global warming? What's causing it - now that's another issue altogether....
Excellent sentiments at the end.
even if If I try not too I always hurt a little more after I read you, I like the reminder everyday of suffering that should simply not be...
I can well explain the questions (especially your last one) but I wish I could find an answer (especially to your last one).
Men have nipples because men father daughters (in addition to sons).
One of the things that people don't get about global warming is that it doesn't mean we'll all get hotter. In the UK's case it means we'll get first wetter then very much colder (as the melting polar ice cap switches off the Gulf stream).
Piercing the night with lights all year round would only make it worse, of course.....
Is there an answer?
Agreed. Though Santa 's nipples (shirtless) are a question I don't want to contemplate.
(Maybe men misusing nipples with so many going hungry--I mean that symbolically.) K.
Yes, yes, yes and yes. I never realised it until they did a piece on it on our news about how frequently men too, have breast cancer. It's not something that is widely known and yet apparently, it happens a lot. I think it's all to do with us being created from the same DNA with slight difference that separate the sexes and we're so close and that's why we have androgynous people too. Why do some animals and plants change sex as and when it needs. So, I think men having nipples goes back to our creator, splicing and dicing with DNA.
As to kids going hungry, (having been one such myself) no it shouldn't happen at all.
Men's nipples?....to carry on the genetic coding, I suppose.
Love your poem.
Oh, I got here to see that you had 55 comments right when I spoiled it with another one! Love it, Brian!
True...love the last line, " nor his children go hungry."
Gee Brian...a bit of everything here: a little bit of silliness mixed in with a lot of poignancy. Great one as usual.
That's some truth!
Well, hunger is something extremely fundamental, (as is human anatomy)
Shirtless Santa-? makes me shiver!
My 55 is bland in comparison- thanks.
Amen!!
Hugs
SueAnn
Yes, I do think it would be disconcerting to see a shirtless Santa (especially in these northern climes.)LOL.
No one should go hungry on this planet. If people would all, every single person, have the mind set that hoarding and ignoring those who don't have as much is unacceptable. Sharing all that grows and all that is made is what life is really about. The "things" in life do not belong to any one. Not really.
RYN: About help the boy with his dress and having good manners and such, there's one thing so far that has impressed me so much about you Brian, having come from the depths that you seem to have climbed up from, you certainly are doing your part to 'pay it forward' I sincerely have nothing but the utmost respect for you both as a real man with a heart full of love and gratitude for his blessings and as such a gifted writer too.
To quote my fav line of Kipling: "You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din" ....Smiles
oh wow Brian, i like this verse of yours the most ... so much depth packed in ... amazing
Oh, Brian - that started so funny, and ended quite profoundly. His children should not go hungry. Absolutely.
maybe sometimes Santa has to go "shirtless" so his kids don't go hungry...if everyone would sacrifice a "shirt" or two for the kids...there could be less and less of them going hungry :) great 55, Brian.
So much truth contained in your short write.
I've been struggling with weather. It's been so cold here, where it's usually warm. And, I guess I've always struggled with why some children go hungry. Thanks for this one Brian.
Great seasonal 55 Brian! :)
Well said! Write on.
I think men would look strange without nipples - like Barbie's boyfriend Ken ;)
Shirtless Santa isn't a good look.
We've been dry! Dry and cold, instead of wet and mild. Our evergreen will suffer big time, as well as our fish and reservoirs. Who doesn't believe?
Love it! Each subject brings to light the questions we all have. Very clever Brian. Also, I like the form and structure. I like my poems to breath, exhibit space. Just loved this one my man.
awesome points made.
Ahh... so profound once again. And congrats on hitting the over 1000 followers mark! You're amazing, Brian.
Profound...As usual. I hope you and your family enjoy the holidays.
Brian, the final two lines nailed it for me. Signed, sealed, delivered.
Men have nipples because, in certain emergencies when the mother has died and they are isolated, there is a chance the man will indeed lactate. And yes, global warming has become "an article of faith" rather than scientifically classified. If you are a Fundamentalist, generally, you don't believe in it. Thanks, Brian; in a few lines, you conveyed so much! Amy

Christmas is the time of cheer and good will. We've just forgotten to take it outside our families.
Maybe Santa goes shirtless to show off his nipples???
Nice write, love the tone and yeah, somethings one sees one wishes he hadn't. But 76 really, it was in the 40's here. #Jealousy -lol
We humans have developed a strange sort of selective blindness, aven't we? Many can see the questions, but few the answers, it seems.
I enjoyed this one thoroughly.
I couldn't agree more-- Shirtless Santa's should be banned and no one should go hungry.
jj
lol I love this one!
six inches. That's all I'm gonna say.
Interesting questions here, love. I wish no one would ever go hungry...
Poor Santa.
Nice poem, Brian.
Interestingly- I was feeling pretty down about human kind today after talking to one self-centered dirt bag whiner today, when I read the story on the news about the anonymous donors paying for layaways at Walmart and it made me feel just a little more hopeful. :)
Very important questions unanswered here, hehe.
Like your reflection!
This is deep and imaginative on so many levels. I love your 55's! No to Santa without a shirt...that would just be the beginning of the end.
Great humourous opening too:) Surely you don't need any of us readers to tell you why men have nipples, LOL. Every man would have to answer that for himself. Ha-ha.
On reflection, the shirtless santa might be trying to make a point about the state of the world just like the 'occupy this' campaign. Shrtless santa might just be a tad more satirical in making the point. Or perhaps the point was missed? - with so many people (including myself) turned off by the image.
yes..
Fun Thoughts,
love the new look, at times, we do need to pretend to be look like or act like someone else to feel GOOD.
you never fail to entertain,
smiles.
Like you need a 93rd comment telling you how remarkable and clever and touching this 55 is! But it is, so here it is! :)
I don't have the answers either
lol - scary to think of santa's without shirts -
I believe in global warming...
Well told!
Very well said!!!
Like the light way it starts and the serious message at the end.
LOL.
If Santa walked about naked, he'd look like a retard.
Oh, I really liked this, you manged to bring so many very serious subjects into such a short piece and yet the first line is so very amusing and come to think of it, i have never questioned that fact, yet how odd it is indeed.;)
xoxo
It is La Nina so a mild winter for us in the South. Global warming is real. The polar ice caps melting over time, the long term trends in rising sea surface temperature--We will have to get used to major changes as time goes on.
Golden Brian! Love this one. Its brillance is self-evident.
