160 - phones and trees
if all you ever hear
is a busy signal in your ear
how many times
you gonna keep calling here
how many years
how many years;
an epiphany hanging
among empty trees
What can you say in 160 characters? Well this is your last chance to try it, but if you do, go tell Monkey.
This is Monkey's last time hosting the Sunday 160. It has been a mainstay on my blog rotation since it began. Thank you Monkey for all you do and did and hope that you have a wonderful break. Peace and joy brother.

Look at the impish gleam in his eyes!! Is he eyeing his wordsmith father?
Another "monkey" in a tree! Love it! Your words are much more profound than I penned for Monkey's last 160.
Monkeying around...cute guy. Well written.
It's always sad to see good things come to an end
an epiphany hanging
among empty trees
... wonderful :o)
Lovely boy, am not surprise he inspires you to write.;)
xoxo
Brian,
This is the little boy you carried piggy back the last picture you had? He is a big boy now. In no time he'll be writing I'm sure!
Hank
cute kid! My daughter was hanging upside down from a tree limb last month when her phone fell out of her pocket and busted into a hundred pieces when it hit the ground - so your title made me chuckle a bit. Happy Sunday!
Nice. Great metaphor, love the rhyme. Funny though I see the direct connection between the trees and the phone books that destroy them. 160 is just 160 to most people, but with you, it might as well be a thousand, because that's what you get out of it. Great job as always. Thanks
This one really resonates with me and almost brings me to tears. Especially in this busy season of the year....I never want to be too busy to spend time with those that are dear to my heart. I want to cherish these times and want them to as well.
thanks love....
Sometimes you have to set the phone down so you can get the important calls. Nice o160, bri, and best wishes to the Monkey Man in his future endeavors. Hosting any meme is an exhausting job.(Not that you'd know about that...much. ;_) )
If the line is always busy, it doesn't take me long to move on. I'm bad that way.
I'm seriously going to miss 160, and am a bit worried about Monkey Man. I've lost so many bloggy friends this way.
think i should switch off the phone and climb a tree...lovely pic.. the problem is that my new iPhone is talking to me now...so things are getting more serious.. smiles.. thanks for the reminder
That is one cute boy! If the line is busy, go climb a tree...
... going to climb a tree now. ;-)
great swing of words
thrown at empty trees,
Glad to see a smart kido fill the space of trees.
A stunning 160
for enjoyment
and
entertainment.
He has a great smile : )
When I read the title, I initially thought of telephone poles. 'Civilizations' version of the tree.
rhyming beauty.. :-)
Someone is Special
Look at that knowing smile! And I do suspect he's related to you, Brian. As always, lots of feelings in a few words... :-)
i love both Brian, the 160 and the picture, your son is handsome, so full of life in his expression so beautiful to see that!
Rhyming right through
Look at you
And yeah chuck the phone in a drawer
And let the busy signal ring forever more
In someone else's ear
As you go spread cheer
That's a great photo...so typical of boys!
call everyday forever:)
Oh he is SO cute. I love that age...
Great picture of your son! Very lucky, father!
Gret message in these 160 characters! Very nicely written!

What a big boy he is now~
It made me recall my daughter hanging upside down.. now she is too tall and heavy for the branches.
Happy sunday ~
what a handsome boy in the tree!
That boy could be next generation of Monkey man or Superman who write poetry, invented a new poetry form or created a novel meme for all to enjoy.
promising 160,
GREAt sentiments.
Brian, I understand this well. It is why I treat my little one like I do and know how to set my priorities with respect to her. Great stuff.
Sometimes I keep calling no matter how many busy signals I get. Because sometimes I just need to get a hold of something. And sometimes my needs go beyond and reach a level of obsession.
Sometimes.
Oh my gosh, what a great message through such a creative metaphor. Loved it, B. :)
great 160...Love the picture, what a cutie :)
I am somehow sad to learn about the end of 160, but it could be just a break right. And your boy is lovely Brian.
Thank you, Brian for another thought provoking Sunday 160 and for the kind words. I am considering the advice Otin left on my comment page.
Perfect!
Love the rhythm and rhyme of this! Oh, and the uber-cute kid too!
Probably keep calling until you get through. That is a really nice photo of your boy in the tree.
Is there still such a thing as a busy signal anymore in this day ov call waiting and voice mail?
This made me think of "Cat's in the Cradle." Sad.
But your boy? Oh, my. What a charmer he is!
I like phones, but I love trees. So I'd probably keep calling... :)
Cheers,
Casey
Oh hope the end of this good thing leads to even better things ahead! LOVE the picture of the monkey in the tree:)
What a cutie! Boys and tree climbing - they go together well! :)
Personally I hate phones and use them as little as possible. I look down at the streets and there's a lot of people with that thing stuck to the side of their face. Why so much to say all the time? Can more important things get through?
Interesting poem.
just when I was thinking of participating in the 160, it ends, I guess I wasn't paying attention to the ring
I cannot believe how much he looks like YOU Brian! wow. And also can't believe that MM is stepping down. Are you going to catch the baton?
Awww look at that face! He's adorable.
What a cutie...
and BTW, I am still getting used to your new profile photo; is that the real you or an alter ego?
A good looking young man. Like father, like son?
I liked your poem. Sometimes I get tired of the ringing of the phone. (Oddly, I much prefer email - sign of the times?)
It's sad to me when something comes to an end.
Maybe MonkeyMan will move on to something different?
Your boy is beatiful, and that picture is a slice of life.
What an awesome pic and what a handsome young man!
The l60 will be very missed, but I can understand Monkey Man needing a break. Hope he has a beautiful one!
That's a cracking picture, Brian. Your words aren't bad, either.... smiles.
yes, why do we keep calling that same number..
So true! We must make time to play with our kids.
Love that photo!
Another wonderfully concise poem!
What a great portrait of your son!!!! So cute!!
fa la la la la!!!'
Hugs
SueAnn
Such mischief in his smile... he's too busy climbing trees that's why you get the busy signal, lol!
Lovely pic, fine, fine write.
He's adorable...I hate the phone, I don't even have a cell, imagine bringing that awful invention wherever i go, your son is a real cutie
UH they don't have busy signals anymore doesn't everything go to voice mail now a days? hahahahah Liked it Brian.
adorable smiling face!!!!! how cute...I am back was away to i will be catching up on all of your words! :)
Aww... lovely picture...this is perfect.
Monkey Man's 160s has led to some enigmatic poetry because much has to remain unsaid. Since I'm not sure what they mean, I try to sound smart by talking about "layers of meaning....hm...yes..."
I get the feeling you said exactly what you meant, and it's about what I think it's about, and you repeated that line because you needed 15 more characters...Ha!
I love the photo and as soon as I saw his face, I had to smile. Infectious definitely.
Your words had a different feeling though. How long will we keep trying to REACH someone by long distance, before we realize it might take a trip to their door?
Oh my, he looks so much like you!
Cute monkey!
Great pic ! Handsome boy ! Lovely poem.
He looks like a great, happy kid, Brian.
=)
Hmm - such persistence.
I have only one word ... awesome!
Great photo. He is an epiphany, isn't he?
I love you photo and your words.
Trees are very important to me. I wish they could talk to tell us what they have seen over the years. I have taken so many photos of trees because I seem to hear a story there.
I will post a tree painting on my blog next.
I love the mischief in his eyes. I know you do not hear your son's ringing in your ears. I know you respond, and he will never stop calling.
