OpenLinkNight: Black Hole Sun Shine On
leaves flash their brilliant last breath
then let death leach every bit left,
mere skeletons & brittle skin
they ride the wind
stars supernova then collapse
birthing black holes and there are
lots of quantum details with temperature
and mass, but i will leave that
to someone smarter than me
i first felt the pain just left of my chest
as i ran a towel across my naked body,
water still clinging to the angles, what hadn't
puddled at my feet
it was just a pinch, nothing much but
a mass it was, tender to touch, my fingers
measuring it as if a figment of my
imagination running free across the front
lawn of my chest hair
no, it was there, is there,
is there and
today it turned dark but before i let it eclipse my sun,
i will magic marker the sky black to
enjoy the cool kiss of shadow
like a summer day beneath tree bows
a piece of grass between teeth staring into the green
well before bare limbs reach
for the heavens.
and so i wait
on the event horizon
howling into the suck,
you will not snuff
the light.

i am holding you in the light, dear friend.
keep the faith!
Brian,
On the left side it is. A couple of times it happened and I rushed for an ECG. It was ok, false alarm. Must be muscular pain or some gastric juices run wild said the Dr. But never take chances.Prayers for you, buddy!
Hank
Many many prayers are going up for you my friend, ya know what the book says, if two or more agree in his name, IT SHALL BE DONE. You know you got way more than two man, way more :)
hugs
Grand poem, Sir Miller... and my prayers are with you!!
And I will be praying that all is well, Brian.
=)
Hey, be well my friend. You are way too young to be feeling twinges. It was probably from all those push-ups you do. :)
I'm so glad you didn't write about donuts. 'Cause that is what I thought of when I saw the pic.
Be well.
Excellent poem ... touched me (due to my own skin cancer)
this is powerful in more than one way...from nature to the powerful forces in the universe to our own vulnerability...take that magic marker and while you wait, listen to the magical stories this crimson-cloaked king has to share...you know i pray..
I know something's going on when I see you rhyming my friend. This is a lyric piece, darkness facing off and staring at you, and the poem looks it straight in the eye. All my gourds and rattles will be out under the moon tonight, and all my best thoughts and hopes your way.
Take care of yourself, my friend. All positive thoughts and light are beaming your way.
Brian - nice piece, but this is one where prose and reality come too close. On my knees for you my friend.
Dearest Brian, I did not know abut the mass. I hope you will let us know what the doctor says.
Love and be well,
xo
I know this. Mine was to the right. Fear was a "supernova"... a "black hole" in an almost perfect life. I was 39 years of age.
Don't let fear do anything but give you a hard swallow. It's best to know.
This cannot be ignored.Find out what this is.
Here's to a doctor's appointment for nothing.
Your poem is lovely. It's healthy to write about your concerns and life's big and little surprises. Thank you for letting us in to your personal world. I certainly will pray for you, send you good energy with my love and hope for the very best.
Oh my, this was really good, thanks for that!
Amazing how we see the world around us as poets... then when life touches close to home... the passion in words becomes even greater. May God grant you peace and healing
Take care of you! Hoping all is well.
Hello! Brian...
Unfortunately, your beautiful, heartfelt, words sent out a very "sad" message to my eyes.
Fortunate, you have your family, and friends (Which include all Of your readers, sending out and keeping you in our..."prayers.")
Take care!
deedee
Hope all goes well and the darkness shall never succumb
Plenty of well wishes from my little rhyming bum
Not literally for there though
Just so you know..haha
I feel your words deeply as I am also struggling with my parents who are both frail and sickly.
I pray that yours is nothing after all. Take care ~
I Pray and Hope you keep well Brian. You have turned a dark moment into a beautiful poem. I LOVE "...before i let it eclipse my sun,
i will magic marker the sky black to
enjoy the cool kiss of shadow..."
I Wish i wrote that!!
You are always in my prayers, my friend...
Relax, and the shadows shall pass... they had better!
Love and best wishes!
You are in my prayers, Brian. Great poem.
You are in my prayers.
Prayers with you, Brian. Hope it all goes well. Great poem too.
A poignant poem you match perfectly to your concerns. All the best to you in seeking answers and healing if need be. Hope it is nothing serious.
Brian, scary stuff. I am glad you are going to the doctor to have it checked out. I will await news from you after you return from the MD. And meanwhile, will be sending prayers in your direction, my friend.
Brian, this stanza is great writing 'today it turned dark but before i let it eclipse my sun, i will magic marker the sky black to
enjoy the cool kiss of shadow
like a summer day beneath tree bows
a piece of grass between teeth staring into the green
well before bare limbs reach
for the heavens'
but i confess my stomach flipped at the stanza, words before it, hope all is well, will be well..
Oh Brian, keeping you in my thoughts, healing wishes coming your way.
This was a really powerful piece, the truth spilled out all over the place, and truth, in the way it often does, became beauty.
When there is no light...enjoy the black marker shade.
Sublime first stanza... Nicely done. Sending prayers and good mojo your way. Blessings!
Great poem...seeing the light in the dark. Something like this can put things in perspective alright. Great you write about it..I'll be praying for you. May it come to nothing..
simply praying everything well for you.
beautiful poem Brian...I pray that all will be well and am sending healing light to fill that dark mass.
A moving piece Brian : art meets medicine.
It may well be a innocent cyst Brian, they can appear in any location and seem quite ominous too.
Prayers that all is well freely given for you, yes.
Lets us know please as and when.
Wow, fantastic write. Hoping for the best for you. These lines just blow me away "today it turned dark but before i let it eclipse my sun,
i will magic marker the sky black to
enjoy the cool kiss of shadow". Thanks for sharing.
I hope all is well.
Thanks for sharing such a personal poem.
please, don't you get dark, my dear friend, that is not an option- no no no.
always think positively.
Amazing how well you write, no matter what.
hey
I am praying for you.
Love and hugs- and good luck and smiles!
xoxox
You'll be in my thoughts, Brian, along with the image of that Noguchi stone, riding out the seasons.
Like my son at night, we'll just leave the lights on. Thinking of you!
Thank you for all the prayers for my husband - they are much appreciated and always welcome. My love, you know I'm always praying and will be praying for you during your dr. visit tomorrow. Beautiful piece. I love you
I'm so sorry to hear this moody, beautiful poem has an all-too-real inspiration. Sending light your way.
Brian,
First, I hold you in the Light.
Second, what a wonderful, descriptive and moody poem...in the best sense.
The tangle of the Universe with the personal makes plain, plain, plain our existance in this Universe.
Hugs, Brother Brian.
Lady Nyo
OMG, Brian. Hugs and prayers coming your way. Let's hope for the best.
Brian, pretty scary, the disbelief is beyond frightening, as denial becomes your friend, until of course you can no longer deny. A lot of really great verse in here, offsetting the moment with a touch of human nature-love that. I dearly hope all will be well, it is scary indeed, but each the fear is unique, so I can only somewhat relate but I will certainly pray for you. Thanks for sharing this
Bless you Brian... Prayers for you and your family.... You are incredibly strong
I thought your prose felt real. I'm thinking of you and will continue to think of you through whatever medical tests you need. Memento mori. No fun at all.
Hoping that your tangle gets smoothed out without any problems. Great poetry, but I expect that from you anyway. :-)
Glad you have the sense to go to the doctor! Yes, it is a little too real and personal, but sometimes, that is what makes it best.
Best of luck!
Kat
so have I inspired you to astrononmy/astrophysics topics in poetry?
i hope so!!!
we need more of those, too many love poems, and growing old poems and all that, need more new topics, and science is always new. :)
You'll be in my prayers, Brian.
You know I am sending not only prayers but much comfort peace and love on the wings of those prayers. And, it's just like you to write an amazing poem to share with us even in the midst of such a scary personal time. Waiting for good news, friend. I do believe it will be. I really do :)
You are amazingly brave and open, I send prayers too.
I LOVE this section:
"
today it turned dark but before i let it eclipse my sun,
i will magic marker the sky black to
enjoy the cool kiss of shadow"
Sending love
I noticed immediately that your poetry was different today. I hope you gather strength knowing just how much you are loved, honoured and appreciated. Best Wishes Brian, Elizabeth.
keeping you tucked in my prayersleeve
Beautiful poem, Brian. Hope all is well. k.
Prayers are always there for you, dear Brian, and God watches over you.
From experience, know that poetry helps expunge the demons and disperse the stress. Also know that although it is rare, men also can get lumps and should check for them. A friend's husband went through similar, but was benign. I hope all goes well Brian. Hugs and prayers.
Oh gosh...so sorry you even have to have the appointment. Hoping and praying for the best..because that's just what sisters do who love you. If it's any comfort, I've had an appointment and second opinion to hear that all is well. And..I've heard the ones that hurt are usually benign.
will be praying! :)
Brian, prayers and positive thoughts coming your way, my friend. To this old nurse, the way you described the pain it sounds like shingles. Watch to see if you break out in a rash that looks like chicken pox. You experience the pain a few days before the rash (been there, done that and cared for a lot of patients with it.) If you need any help to lighten your load at dVerse, I'd be happy to pick up some of you work. Prayers, Brian.
The reality stole the spotlight from an excellent poem, my friend. Praying all goes well and this is but a false alarm.
The poetry of concern, but better safe than sorry Brian. I have hard, very tender masses just below the skin, in many places on my body -- more come from time to time. My doctor tells me not to worry, so I pass that on to you -- but to repeat, have it looked at...
Brian, Prayers are yours. We are holding you up right now and will continue to do so.
Sending good thoughts your way, Brian!
Very real prayers, some virtual hugs, and a light for your darkness - headed your way.
Such a confrontation with the finite can serve as a fulcrum upon which a life can either maintain or lose balance. All depends on the individual. Strong write by a strong man, Brian. Keeping a good thought, my friend.
I pray everything is fine - life is so precious...make sure and take care of yourself....coming back from my reunion with many already gone I did not know about....take care..bkm
Please take care of the vessel..
sending god vibes all the way from little sunny florida :-)
Brian! We went through something similar with my husband after Christmas. I hope the results of your tests are as benign as his were. I will say a prayer for you this minute. Thinking of you.
In the meantime...there is poetry to express it :)
You have my prayers always. I don't know what's going on but it sounds like a painful experience as expressed through your words. Blessings.
Heartfelt poem...I'll be praying for you.
You are in my thoughts - wow - I hope you are ok, my friend! I am sending light your way tonight. xo
Beautiful expression, thanks Brian. All the best.
Hey Brian, if there is anything I can do to help? I used to dispense drugs at the local pharmacy in Cincinnati.
--grin!
Actually, I worked the street right OUTSIDE the local pharmacy.
No joke, prayers are on the list tonight--for YOU! Hope it is just a muscular strain of some sort...
Oh, Brian...
Brian, I am so glad you are sharing this moment with us. You are not alone, fella! So many care about you. Please let us know what the men in white say. Yes? Most likely nothing much, but a scare, uh-huh! My thoughts are with you, friend. :)
sometimes it's in the waiting that the eclipse seems longest. I love the lines,"i will magic marker the sky black to
enjoy the cool kiss of shadow
like a summer day beneath tree bows
a piece of grass between teeth staring into the green
well before bare limbs reach
for the heavens."
You have my prayers, and may peace rest upon your heart and gather rest for the moments of waiting.
Prayer is such a powerful thing. The accepting of the need and the reaching out to give, join to share God's grace. Stay strong.
Hope it's nothing serious Brian. Thoughts are with you.
The fear in the poem is clearly expressed that I actually do feel a bit anxious after reading. The lines do start to fall into a sort of 'disarray' arrangement compared to the 'composed' first two stanzas, adding to that feeling.
I could feel what you must have felt in these lines.. so powerful from universe supernova to sun and light . The write is nice and the prayers are surely there for you. Keep faith. Take care
some things leave me wordless...
you there, me here... both up late praying with so many others who count it a privilege to know and pray for you.... church of the net. i pray you and your wife are amazed by his love, peace and comfort tomorrow (today).
glorious ending!

I am so sorry to hear of your illness and will think of you each day in prayers for your quick healing let us know how you are
http://gatelesspassage.com/2011/10/11/the-day-of-the-dead/
This is a fantastic piece. Very difficult to do it justice. It changes, if not mood then mode a couple of times and takes the reader a little by surprise. Lines like:
"today it turned dark but before i let it eclipse my sun,
i will magic marker the sky black to
enjoy the cool kiss of shadow
like a summer day beneath tree bows"
just left me half way between a gasp of admiration and a sigh.
May a new sun arise and shine evr benignly.
Powerful words... strength reflected back to you Brian, many, many times over...
Thoughts and prayers, Brian. All the best, my friend.
you will be in our prayer. i do sincerely hope and pray to hear a relieving news from you.
take care my friend, stay well.
you got it! Pray you get answers soon and the answer is much smaller than the worry!!!
Love and light dear friend - thinking of you
Your words are unique, as you are. I so like the use of the magic marker.
Be well. Let us know what the doctor says.
Be well.
Brian, all prayers for you here.
frightening poem in its suggestions..... one 'feels' the fear, the tinge of anger and disagreement & dissension - the echo of emotions.
I am praying for you, friend.
Great words, interwoven between nature and the real life vulnerabilities...hope it is nothing serious.
Perceptive, thought provoking and courageous. Hope all turns out well my friend. ATB James.
It's a fine poem, Brian.
And take care of yourself.
Keeping you in my prayers Brian! It will be ok my friend!
Dear Brian this was very personal...
Hopefully all will be well, I had to endure a health scare this past spring too, upon a lot of other pains inflicted upon me by life, so I have been there... But all turned out so well eventually and so it will for you too.
Many hugs to you dear friend,
xoxo
I really enjoyed this piece and will say a few prayers for you as well.
That's a little scary! Praying its nothing. Keep us posted!
love how you express that feeling. very nice indeed. rest assured that all of you are in my prayers...
God bless!
JJRod'z
magic marker the sky black... i love that line :)
Wow. Prayers heading your way, Brian. Let us know what's up when you can.
wow, brian. love that you have the courage to share with all of us something so personal and that must be so scary. that being said, you do a tremendous job of tying human vulnerability to the failing of the season.
i'm not much of a praying type, but what good I have in karma and thought, sending your way posthaste.
How scary for you! I hope it turns out to be nothing serious.
So like you to fold the personal things in your life into poetry (rhyming, no less) and hold it to the autumn light, examining the details, chasing away the shadows. You know my thoughts & prayers are with you!
Prayers said. anxiously awaiting good news.
Whoa...prayers indeed brother Poet. I think you know you've got a team here willing to march to the pearly gates to hand deliver them. Ever here of the intention experiment? You are now mine! Freaking awesome write but seriously wish a different muse was dancing for you on this one...
Certainly will be thinking of you and sending healing energy your direction.
I will keep you in my prayers, Brian. Thinking good thoughts.
3rd stanza is my fave, lingered over the angles, a strong imagery, cool read! thanks :)
"mere skeletons & brittle skin" is simply brilliant and lovely. A solid write...it bleeds hope, indeed (as it should).
You are in all of our prayers...please keep us posted.
Take care ~
Absolutely, Brian...please take care. xxoo
You are such a charming blogger to all, sorry to hear that you need to do doctor check up.
Keep in mind, you are only 38, two young boys need you, and your wife needs you, it is not going to be a big deal out of the medical result.
Always stay positive, and smile.
A visual hug to you, sending you lots of energy, blessings, and prayers.
Wake up to a sunny mood,
The pain will go away soon...
*hug* Intensity and concern fill each line of the poem to the note of All too real. I pray that all is well and hardship avoids your doorstep. May the waiting be the worst part.
Beth
skivvies. I haven't heard that word in a while.
Nice writing (as always)
Hugging you dear friend!!
Just breathe!!
Hugs
SueAnn
I'm so sad to hear this is based on a true experience. The words are quite powerful. It's scary how many men are starting to have this issue. :(
Brian,
Catching up after being away for a few days. Going to the doctor is very smart. Praying it is nothing. If it is something, prayers for quick healing.
Cheryl
A powerfully expressed poem Brian...the strength is needed to write about such worries but at the same time it's easier when we pour our heart out...I wrote one of that kind myself (http://eclipseofthemoon.wordpress.com/2011/05/06/diagnosis/) and can relate to the emotions you are going through....
A bunch of positive thoughts and best wishes sending your way
//Eclipse
Hope all is well with you..
stolen moments
Brian, you are definitely in my prayers. Oh, what a shock to see your note at the end,,,although I was really feeling anxious from mid-way to the end of the poem. The poem, the poem speaks mysteriously for itself in the ways of true wonder.
poetic grace to post this write as you have, I will keep you in my meditations my friend. Believe in your body now, in communion ask it to heal. my love to you ~ Rose
Brian, thinking of you, man. Let's hope all will be okay. Keep us posted.
Hope everything went okay at the doc's...praying that all is well!
