I'd so like to see what's under those black lines If people knew there prob be tons of fines And so much more So called "secrets" are more like them covering their own rear end so it doesn't get whacked by the door
I think we all have redacted "statements" in our lives. If we could move beyond the thought that we have to always protect ourselves at any cost and admit mistakes and honestly seek forgiveness for them, I think we would be so much closer to where we should be. Just sayin'.
secrets, we all have them...politicians, husbands, wifes, pastors, children...some we keep forever, some we let go into the light....but its a thread we all share, secrets....
Secrets read as Braille- yes indeed they stain! some of us are fortunate enough to have made hard and dedicated efforts to rectify the wrong beneath the secrets....Thanks-
secrets can be a cancer that eat way the soul. even painful truths are sometimes better spoken. but we all have secrets, some more toxic than others. favorite line, "leave responsibility's memory to stain your fingers" - that's a tough line.
Secrets, I guess we all have a few. We wrap them up and hide them, and unintentionally sometimes hurt ourselves or others. Great write in so few words. You are such a deep thinker Brian.
I think it's our prideful nature that causes us to keep secrets, big or small. We don't want others to see how we "really" are for fear they won't like or approve of us so instead the mask goes on. The longer it stays, the harder it is to remove....just my thoughts.
We should take responsibility and own up to our mistakes and secrets. (easier said than done) Imagine the burden that would be lifted from our shoulders and the freedom we would feel. Everyone is broken....everyone has something they're not proud of. And there is One who knows our deepest darkest secret(s).....and still He loves us.
i have this window open for about an hour now...chatting on FB and read it around 10 times in every chat break..and still not sure if i get it...my experience is as long as secrets are secrets they are extremely powerful and when the light comes in they lose part of their power which is a good thing...but it's all too human to hide as long as possible...ugh..
So many lies, told to us by those who lied to themselves and redacted, rather than revealed. 9/11 brought out the best in our nation... and then the worst.
Whoa. Sad but this is so true more often than not. It's amazing how people KNOW "it's" there, yet they still choose to walk forward as if it's not, no matter what topic/area this would fall under. It could be relationships, Religion/God, politics - I really like what Magpie says.
As the saying goes, "The personal is political." So much of our personal "crap" gets played out in political agendas. It all becomes more about winning/losing, saving face, protecting secrets than about doing what's good for society as a whole.

this is as much about personal secrets as it is anything political...smiles...just saying....

ah a redacted confession
Secrets and lies.
Well done!

have a great one man :)
magpie gets it...smiles.
The sad thing is that, "in the interest of national security," entire bits of history have been redacted. Oh, yeah, I feel more secure, don't you?
Wonderful. Silence and secrets can be very powerful indeed.
Makes you want to shine a light up their backside, doesn't it?
And my comment is one of the first 10! I feel like I should yell, "Yahtzee, eight times removed!"
nice post sir...

What are you hinting at? I have nothing to hide ... errr ... nothing at all.
We think we protect with secrets but we only hurt. Thanks for playing along with the Sunday 160.
aah! Some more of those secrets- huh?
Loved the whimsical tone of it!!
hugs xo
What do those secrets hide???
Secrets--everybody has them. Very original, Brian--I really enjoyed this.
This kind of silence is loaded and explosive if finally given voice.
Nicely done, Brian.

55 words that can't ever be taken back (from your memory)

Secrets bubble up eventually. Like an abscess.
Thought provoking...but I'm admitting nothing!:)
Love the last few lines. Gave me goosebumps.

read between the lines

I suppose that's where my nightmares come from, holding the secrets in, releasing them at night, doesn't make me feel any better
"secrets only power
is (lies) in its..."
silence.
Hi! Brian...
What a great use Of (and play on)160 words...the image compliment your 160 words..."perfectly" too!
Thanks, for sharing!
deedee ;-D
...By the way, I agree with Mrs. [Tara] Miller's comment too!
Thanks, for sharing!

great picture, simplicity. nice words too

Wow, Brian. This is beyond amazing.
I love this:
"leave responsibility's memory
to stain your fingers"
And this was so clever:
"secrets only power
is (lies) in its
silence"
Brian, there aren't many writers who can say as much 160 words, spaces and characters.
Redacted is a great word, isn't it?
Fearing the vulnerability of truth and foolishly hiding in the secret or lie. I think we can all relate. So much in 160 little characters, excellent.
"secrets only power
is (lies) in its
silence."
You are so clever as a poet, Brian. I like the way your brain works.
=)
Let the secret come to light and feel it's grip release?
Blacked out lines -- makes it stand out something is desperately being hidden. Loved the following line to the first two:
"leave responsibility's memory
to stain your fingers"
It does also seem like something meant to be forgotten.
The honesty shown in your 160 shows that you have a kind spirit.
keep up the excellence!

This is why I love blogging.
It defeats the purpose to have blackness cover your words.
So clever, Brian, and so true. On several levels.
Some secrets are best left as they are. Well some of mine are anyway :)
How many memorable lines can you fit into 160 characters? A heck of a lot it would seem.
Is our world sick, or what? We lose friends, relatives, children, partners and get REDACTED documents! I would think we deserve THE TRUTH!
Ah yes...secrets! I have found that there are no such things as secrets. They are soon exposed for all to see!
Hugs
SueAnn
LOVE THIS!
Hmmm..
As the saying goes, "The personal is political." So much of our personal "crap" gets played out in political agendas. It all becomes more about winning/losing, saving face, protecting secrets than about doing what's good for society as a whole.
We all have something hidden under black markers...loved this!
Your ability to say so much with such a tiny number of words always amazes me.
Maybe one day the truth will be out.
not much left on that sheet if you black the words that convict & convince. Frightening
