The river rolls, roiling
round rocks, leaving glistening
wet kisses on their ruddy
surfaces, glitter in the sun
Does she know the life she brings?
Sweet scented flowers sprout
unfolding precious petals, dampening
the air with their arid perfume, captured
in pictures by passers by, faint traces
of their beauty distilled to
digital memories

dude, you are able to say so much, so beautifully using so little...Bravo!
Fine mental images you've typed.
That first part made my tongue hurt
As all the R's I had to spurt
Nicely played in 55 words
As digital memories are more common now than actual paper photos one used to keep in herds
Beautiful. Reminds me of hiking along the river. Nice.
Well, you certainly can thrive 55...well done bro.
A bit of the beauty is captured, but not the heart, not the soul. Lovely.
Brian,
Appreciating the goodness brought on by nature or that someone so special in just so many words! Great!

Hi! Brian...
Beautiful...you have captured very vividly, the image(s) Of nature and technology.[The use Of the digital camera]
Thanks, for sharing!
deedee ;-D
A beautiful thought Brian. If we could be like that river, simply leaving beauty in our wake unaware.
Like the rolling rrr's and the river kisses--makes me want to take off my shoes and go wading.
Old Man Ribber...
Great Job Son.
Your 55 and the River flows Perfectly!
Be Careful in Hoosier Land
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Beautiful piece of description!
The senses remember what pictures can't capture. Great 55.
The river does indeed create a world of beauty (provided we denizens of its shores don't destroy it) for the photographer. But it takes a rare photographer who can capture even a fraction of it in two dimensions.
I like this a lot, Brian.
love the imagery evoked
Ah.. I was just imagining the river and its beauty too. We always try to capture nature's beauty in our camera but its different if we are there basking in its beauty.
I must try this challenge some other time ~ Right now I am trying to write a longer ...
Yep, love the slippery imagery of water. It's tough to capture. Sweet.
Plz come and get your cousin. He's passed out on the back steps again.
Gentle rivers bringing sweet life and beauty, yet strong enough to break apart rocks, mountains. Like poetry and art.
Good stuff.
Life, rivers and your poetry, I mean.
Happy holiday weekend.
Lovely. Mwaaaa! Kisses galore for this one. And yes, she knows.
This just made me feel really good inside.
And, I love the consonance here, "The river rolls, roiling round rocks, leaving glistening wet kisses on their ruddy surfaces..." - Nicely done as usual :)
Beautiful!
Goodness, this is lovely!
Loved it!
Margie :)
PS: Oh, I love hound dogs! A perfect choice!

You have some digital memories of flowers laying around? Post them!
Absolutely beautiful description. Your words are better than most photos!
Too much fun with alliteration, that first part...but it really does sing the cascade of water. A lovely 55, leaving a visual memory ~
Your magically woven words capture the magesty of a rolling river so very beautifully... loved this Brian. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.
hmmm rolling off the tongue
smiles - moonie
If you don't write a book soon...!
What a beautiful stroll down by the river! Thank you
Hugs
SueAnn
I enjoyed that soooo much.
Yup. That's exactly why I'm not a photographer. Enjoyed this very much and the alliteration is fun.
Love '...distilled to
digital memories' - beautiful, Brian, and these bring back the mental memories together with the scents.
The digital representations are rarely as beautiful as my memories...but they do help us to remember the rest.
I thought you were romanticizing a wee bairn until this line-
"Sweet scented flowers sprout"
Then the image of the first diaper I ever changed sprouted aloud in my head and I knew I was on the wrong track of interpretation.
I love this... reminds me of our trip to Colorado
It is said that water is so powerful that as you drink from it you should welcome her in and thank her
Life in pictures, sounds like reminiscing. I see it Brian, it's beautiful, doesn't matter if it's digital or on paper, it's the past times I am enjoying and reliving again.
Beautiful !
Beautiful!
I totally see the water over the rocks. Beautiful imagery. Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
Once again, your words have painted us a beautiful picture!
Beautiful.
Great Job!
Beautiful! :)
Thank goodness all things don't have to be aware of the gifts they give..they simply are.
"distilled to digital memories"
Wonderful!
Does she know the life she brings? don't think so but love that she does without knowing
that's my little river you have described and it's me who has the camera to capture it.
I can picture the scene and it is peaceful and beautiful and perfect!
There is definitely something to be said about people who can be effective without having to go on-and-on with their words.
I could definitely picture the rocks & water & moss.
the title rocks!
Love rivers, very nice!
You pain a wonderful picture with your words Brian. :)
Digital memories, some clear and some faint. Such a pretty visual, I would like to have a picnic there.
You painted a vivid picture in my mind.
This was a very beautiful 55, Brian! I could visualize every bit of it - of course, it's too early for my Grey Goose martini!
My 55 is at:

Does she know the life she brings?
This selah, is such a great moment. Nice.
Nice one...I had to look up roiling, so thanks for the vocab expander. It's a lovly little image...much lovlier than a scab!
Nice! I can smell the aroma of those flowers and hear that water as well!
great alliteration as opening gambit
tranquil, sedate, almost felt real.. bravo..
Like that 'distilled to digital memories...'
does the water know? bet it does...
lovely 55! especially ~
"leaving glistening
wet kisses on their ruddy
surfaces"
perfect imagery!
MAGPIE did my commenting, that not every gift of nature has to be specially recognized--
--unlike us Peeps, when we 'give' something of ourselves...well, she did not write the second part of that--grin!
You have this 55 business down to a fine art.
I love how I felt after reading this my friend, lovely!
Enjoy the wedding, have a great weekend....:-)Hugs
Ah - so lyrical! Enjoy your weekend.
Lovely. Such imagery! Have a great holiday weekend, and congrats to your sis on her wedding!
Tina @ Life is Good
fabulous poem brian. all the best for your sister's wedding! may god bless her with a lovely, long married life.
Lovely alliteration. You are literally loquacious!
so beautiful - enjoy the weekend. i'm gone, too! what a beautiful weekend for a wedding! Enjoy it!
You describe more in 55 words than most writers. Nice.
You have some epic alliterations in this piece. Just fantastic. It reads like a classic poem from centuries past, but with a modern edge. I really love your style.
Cheers,
Casey
Have a great weekend at the wedding.
Nice little word painting there, Brian. I like the bit about the water kissing the rocks and that digital memories can never measure up to the actual experience of poetry in motion.
A clever one with rolling Rs!
You sketch serene images with your choice of words.. so beautifully descriptive..
You have a nice one at the wedding! Congratulations..
Sunday hugs xox
Really good!
Fifty five words, awesome. My nice post would try to measure to it.
So lovely with vivid images. Nice 55.
jj
