55 - magic, lost & found
from my parkbench
i watch
pigeons pecking an unseen meal
among the grass and try to pick
the one that
goes with the white rabbit
nibbling by the base
of the wood
somewhere out there
is a sad magician
who thinks he's lost his magic
if you see him
thank him from me
for sharing.

Sweet, and a little sad, too.
Maybe the magician isn't sad
But a tad glad
That you could be entertained from a bench
By his rabbit and not a guy fixing something with a wrench
But if I see him I will thank
Or at least point out the way to the bank
So he can get a loan
And buy a rabbit who doesn't hop away and moan
First maybe I was
Or do I miss out just because
Thanks for this write!
another great one man....so we are back on blog land, but I seem to have lost almost all my comments on my last few post???? ugggg
I have sat on that park bench to pick used bubble gum from my shoe bottom...it's adjacent to the white-striped parking lot. Remember?
I appreciated the tone of this piece. A bit melancholy. A bit triumphant. Good work.
oh, I like this piece. Nice job!

I have come to look forward to these pity stories Brian. They leave so much "scope for the imagination."
This makes me smile. I'm sure the magician will be just fine.
Wow, I love magic!
For a moment I thought I had gone back in Time Machine and landed up on Wednesday today!
You guys came up late with 55ve today?
That guy needs to be thanked for small mercies all the time!
Sharing is magic in itself....beautiful magic.
Thanks and gratitude shared! :) Another lively picture painted with the magic that is you...smooth styled flow that screams a Brian Miller Original. Power to the poet and blogger be damned!
Very good. Your 55 proves that not everything is bad on Friday 13th.
Maybe he let the rabbit go because it had served him well?
I'm up here
Very sweet and so tightly written, it's amazing what one can write in 55 words.
I think his magic is still there.
Amazing what you can see if you stop to watch for a bit. Blogger is still in a bit of a fog over here. Acting slow and a bit cranky. My newest posts are still not restored and some comments have disappeared into the ether. I was going thru withdrawal!
What a great poem. I like the twist of the pigeon and the lost of magic. You are really good.
Cheers,
Shanae
My Blog
dude, this is magical.
think i've seen him...
Hi! Brian...
Thanks for sharing your wonderful use Of 55 words...Like some previous commenter have already mentioned your poem is [kind Of] sad, but you, "paint" a very vivid picture here:
"from my parkbench i watch pigeons pecking an unseen meal among the grass and try to pick the one that goes with the white rabbit nibbling by the base of the wood..."
[I also like the photograph Of the park-bench too!]
Thanks, for sharing!
DeeDee ;-D
Well you haven't lost your magic. Although Blogger did. Had my 55 scheduled to post. Now it is lost in the cyberworld of Blogger nothingness.
Brian...there are so many sides to your writing. I loved the poignancy of this little piece.
Ahhhhh.
Maybe the bunny and pigeon will romp to far and interesting places, write a book about it and the Magician will become famous because of them.
xo
Short and magical....smiles...
"somewhere out there
is a sad magician
who thinks he's lost his magic"
That hits me in the gut the same way the words to the Police song "King of Pain" does. I am not a word person and so I can't describe what it feels like but think you might know what I mean.
I pictured an lonley old man sitting on a park bench, rain drizzling slightly just watching the world go by. Thank you for sharing.
Brilliant Son.
Love the Karma/Yin/Yang Thang!!
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Poor magic man. I hope the message finds its way to him :(
When I was an investigator in plain clothes, I use to go sit on the park bench on my lunch break, eat my sandwich, and enjoy people watching. This reminded me of that. The crazy squirrels and pigeons would come so close, begging for bread crumbs. Sad, now that I'm in uniform, I can't do that anymore. I would draw too many stares from people thinking I'm being lazy.
"Nothing up my sleeve. Presto!"
I like the lighthearted feel of this one. Have a wonderful weekend!
I like this!
I like the part about how the birds are pecking at an "unseen meal". I like how the rabbit doesn't mind that you're there, and I feel sad for the magician.
Thanks for doing Friday 55, despite the Blogger fiasco. (Sigh!)
I did one too. It's here. :)
whimsical and giggly...I can see this being said in a quirky/sad monlogue by Johnny Depp
Tears streaming..................................................
oh this is so touching!
If the magician only knew of his great talent! I see this as a very light poem with a happy setting. Enjoying a peaceful day on the parkbench with the animals.
;)
Yes, images of Johnny Depp flash in my mind here. :)
What can a magician do without hi white bunny and top hat?
I posted my 55..but, alas, Galen wasn't there. How sad. Nor was Blogger. Oh, well, it's pretty reliable, most of the time.
seriously if anyone else wants to compare me to johnny depp...i am certainly ok with that...smiles.
Amazing how stuff like that appears when the weather gets nice.
Kind of a melancholic tone underlying... Nice piece.
Love it - very amusing!
Brian, you paint pictures. Better than that, you create emotion, like I could step right inside your words and understand them. This was wistful.
It would be horrible to lose the magic...and I'll be keeping my eye out for the sad magician.
I loved this, Brian.
his magic never loses its charm. :)
loved the magic of your poem too brian.
you are the magician seeing things that we do not observe
Pity about the magician who lost his magic.
Blogger lost lots of comments and posts for us yesterday!

alright people...have a wonderful saturday...heading out for logans audition so unless they have internet i am likely gone for the day...knpw that i was not taken in blogapocalypse 2011...i am alive and well...smiles. see you in a bit.
it escapes sometimes, but it can't leave your mind, howmuch do I love this...
magic!! yes, you've got it. have a great saturday! xo
Awwwwwwww, what an imagination you have, and wouldn't that be quite a sight to trip over?
To see the magic in an empty park... wonderful gift, Brian.
Nice. Did you follow the white rabbit? Couldn't help myself...
Tina @ Life is Good
Hey, Adeeyoyo! Whatcha mean...'empty' park? There were pigeons, a white rabbit, a magician...and Brian--grin!
And yessss, the magic!
This is wonderful, Brian.
I loved it!
Magical writer, you are!
Nice. It leaves me thinking if at times, I've been such a magician. Hope somehow he finds his magic again.
Hi Brian, love this poem. I am trying to decide if I would like it better if the second and third strophes were switched. Really like ending on the concrete image of the magician, more surprise.....?
absolutely delightful. So young and innocent.
I always lose my keys, and sometimes my mind...Not sure I ever had magic to lose.
This creates such a "spell," Brian. Somewhat nostalgic. As an aside, I'm glad it's quail and not pigeons that are picking at the bugs in our yard. :0)
Amazing you said all that in just 55 words.
"...a sad magician who thinks he's lost his magic..." Love that.
Happy weekend, Brian.
jj
May he impart magic your way, as you deserve a lot of it for your caring ways.
You made me want to find that magician and tell him he still has his magic.
Aawww, he lost his magic...but the rabbit if FREE...
losing your magic is part of the act
Brian,I just wanted to thank you for all the kind words on my poems!
They are very much appreciated!
You are too kind!
Margie :)
If we could publish all of life's reflections that were made while sitting on park benches around the world, we'd understand just about everything, Brian.
Thanks for the smile -- a gentle poem.
A magical tale. :)
Magic it is..sometimes unseen and sometimes wondrously huge that can't be let without noticing..
Unusual write-up
How interesting that the pigeon and rabbit conjured thoughts of a magician who'd lost his props -- I like where you went with that image!
I really like the simplicity of this. We all thank that magician, I think.
Maybe more magical living free.
Have you noticed that the big Blogger fiasco has been a bit of a bonding experience for us all?
"somewhere out there
is a sad magician
who thinks he's lost his magic"
this would be a great concept for a children's television show. i LOVE the idea of a dejected magician walking the streets ~ his wand in one hand and top hat in the other.
but i don't mean that in a sadistic or cold-hearted way. although that could be an interesting character....
Brian, this is so beautiful and the picture just compliment so well your wonderful writing! have a wonderful day!
Sweet and tender.. and a little bittersweet.
We each have a little magic, even when we think it might be lost.
Soooo......hmmmm......I have that picture in my file called "Lost & Found."
You been snoopin' around my MacBook, buddy? :))
btw, sorry, it was beautiful...all your writing is.
