Live from New York...
So where am I? New York City! We drove up yesterday and have been enjoying the city in preparation for the Shorty awards on Monday night, where One Stop Poetry is up for the #arts award.
Last night we went to the Nuyorican Poetry Cafe for a poetry slam. For those that don't know what that means, think competition poetry performance that is very crowd interactive. We waited in line (in 30 degree weather) for 90 minutes just to get in the door. To hear poetry, how crazy is that eh?
It was the semifinals in determining who would represent the state of New York in the World Finals. They rocked my face off, sick good.
All this to say, sorry I was not around yesterday and I probably wont be around today either. Thank you to all of you that have supported One Stop and given me/us this opportunity. And for all of you that each day encourage me with your words.
See you tomorrow and maybe Monday I will post some pics of me and Keifer Sutherland (for you ladies), Ms America (for you guys) or Justin Beiber (for the kids). I look forward to the ones with some of my friends I met here in the blogosphere, whether we walk away with the award or not.
b
ps. for those that did not pick up on it yesterday, i am trading postcards for poems.

New York City
sometimes thought of as gritty
others describe as pretty,
but I've always imagined full of people so witty.
The lights and sounds
of the US at its best
with personality that abounds
to impress the rest.
Catch hold of those dreams
and ride high on your star
fame and fortune it seems
are not ensconced now afar.
Congratulations on this wonderful milestone in your fame and writing career my friend. Of course I am dying to hear how the awards go, but I hope that you just have a great time taking it all in. We all know already that you are our star. One Shot rocks!
Sending lots of good energy your way...

Nuyorican Poetry Cafe was definitely worth the wait...cool atmosphere and extremely talented poets. Wow! I think what you and the others are doing with One Stop Poetry and your vision for where it is going is amazing. Award or no, you all touch the lives of others and what can be better than that.

Good luck!!!
Wow, the poetry slam sounds like a blast! Good luck on Monday!
Way cool that you are in NY and even cooler the reason. Well deserved! Enjoy.

You will rock the poetry cafe, I'll bet. You just be careful you don't get so crazy rhyming, turning phrases, running runes, stringing stanzas, or bellowing balladry you can't find your way home again. Those NYC poets can beat and speak and boho their coolness in such an enticing way.
Yea! How exciting. Break a leg, good fortune, and have fun!
I'm so excited for you! Wishing you well wishes and wishing wells. Look forward to hearing about it.
I am joining in the excitement with you Brian. I can just imagine you in the line and enjoying the show. Have you enjoyed a glass of Virgin Bloody Mary yet?
I want to tell you to bring home Steven Tyler for me, but he's in LA;)
All the best Brian, and gang. I don't know how big or strong the competition is but I do know you are in the lead.
Enjoy the big city! And best of luck! And most of all, may you be inspired to write even more!
I so want to go to New York some day! Enjoy! Don't kill your feet with too much walking. ^_^
City lights, poetry nights!! Have a rhyming good time!!
Good luck with the competitions. I wish the weather was a little warmer for you. Just shine!! =D
Awesome! Good luck and tear it up!!
Hey friend, sure hope you guys win. Enjoy, and get an autograph for us.
If you get to see Kiefer, I will be so jealous! Absolutely love that guy. He has a great record label and finds new artists all the time...and promotes them. So, Brian...a photo would be great!!!
How amazing for you Brian!!! Happy Dance Fun! lol! Brain, I want to thank you for your encouraging words, I appreciate your visits.
♥ ஆεlεɳa ~.^
Have a wonderful time, Brian. And give Leslie a big hug for me. Good luck!
Sounds like so much fun! Be safe! Enjoy and practice your acceptance speech.
So exciting!! Can't wait to hear more.
Well rock and roll, Brian! You have yourself a fabulous time!
Enjoy your well deserved weekend, good luck.......:-) Hugs
Oh how exciting dear Brian, enjoy your stay in NYC and good luck on Monday.;))
Looking forward to see the pictures.;))
xoxo
in old times bengal used to have these poetry slam, if i am not wrong, it was mostly interactive, the poets used to have a duel of poems (sort of), and it was called war of poets- one poet used to recite a poem the other one used to answer it through another one, it continued till one gave up, is it similar?
wordpress server is down here today. its been troubling me the whole week, today it is almost dead.
that will mean backlog for me!
all the best!
Woot! Woo!!! Congrats and sounds like you are having a blast!!!!! A poetry slam?? Wowzers! How cool is that!
Good luck dear friend!!
Can't wait to see these pics!
Hugs

Exciting
Not surprised

Congrats! I hope you win. And in any event, I hope you're enjoying NYC. It's unseasonably cold right now -- sorry about that long line in the freezing weather. But it sounds like you're having fun anyway. Take care!
Hello! Brian...
Congratulation!...I wish you and "One Stop Poetry" good-luck!
Brian said,"We waited in line (in 30 degree weather) for 90 minutes just to get in the door. To hear poetry, how crazy is that eh?"
Not crazy at all if you are a poet and love poetry.(Which you are, but Of course!)
This was a very informative "fun" and "warm" post
I too hope that you, enjoy your stay in The Big Apple!
Thanks, for sharing!
