great birds tore
prometheus' liver
daily, where he lay
chained to a rock
for stealing fire
& i wonder what
will they do,
finding i have
stolen you
yet that is not
why i tremble
in your presence
wrap your wings
round us, let's
share the apple,
gaining knowledge
of each other,
both good and...

LOVE is always a risk worth taking....brilliant one dude.
hmmm...I see a parallel between the greek myth, the garden of eden and any modern day love story. simply profound me thinks!
oooo, well done
I like this one Brian!
Does there have to be a price for love? Me thinks NOT.
oooooh, I LOVE LOVE this one, Brian. sharing the apple. Wonderful stuff here tonight!
To be loved by a poet is a grand thing!
=)
Oh, how I've missed you and your posts, Brian.
Thanks for stopping by. I have been feeling nostalgic lately where my bloggy friends are concerned. Something about losing friends IRL, that makes you realize what makes you happy. Now that I'm getting better, I'm remembering all of the people who touch my life and I'm reaching out to let them know that I appreciate them...(hint, hint) It'll take me quite some time to catch up with everyone.
Wishing you and yours all the best as always.
Keep up with your fantastic writing!!
Oh man, top shelf today brother!
Sexy. whew. Thanks.
I love how you play with words... as in your title.
Excellent combo of Greek Myth with Biblical allusion. From stealing fire to the unknown through tempting... nicely done.
Love it!
Ok so Adam has the Coliseum; you have prometheus
should I have written something from Byzantine history?
Nice piece Bri - 3 weeks and counting
Whoops! Don't let the big guy find out. Oh. Too late? Sorry.
If the apple is evil, how does it keep the doctor away?
This is wonderfully sweet and lyrical.
Knowledge is power!
Such agony for stealing a Zippo!
Most excellent 55 Son.
Thanks for playing and your great support, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Love it! Nice 55, Brian...perfect how you ran out of words at just that moment. :)
ooohh, thou dost tempt me as I'm reading this while sitting oh so close to you my love ;-)
Do you talk like this...or just write?
Such a nice blending of beliefs. Did you have to add a word above to end in just the right spot?
ha...me & magpie...actually i had to cut a few above to get it that far...
between yesterdays and todays can you tell what i have been studying...lol...will move off the world religeon theme tomorrow...smiles.
Guess what it's Pat, oops I meant the cat.
I'm here, I'm there and I'm back to ruffle your hair.
Oh wait you don't have much of that, oh snap I'm a sly cat.
I love the greek myths and the lore, even if there was a fair bit of gore.
Your read was great as usual, even if I'm a bit unusual.
Yeah that last bit was bad, but I didn't want to make you mad.
As I have to let you keep up a bit, so you don't have a rhyming fit.
See you soon, as I sign off still a loon.
I think that the risk is worth it. All for love--we do a lot for that.
Wow! So joyous!

Is the single, sexless god jealous, perhaps of his creations shared happiness?
Oh Vicki asks a great question
Brilliant Brian...I am a fan
thanks suz...and i just emailed her that same comment...smiles.
Well, this "55" ran out of breath at a convenient spot! Fun reading!
no need for...bad
good call
Peace, hp
thank you for stopping by
Very well done, sir.
This was a fabulous 55, Brian. No need to finish that last line, is there?
Just dropped by to visit an old friend...who seems to get better with age...
A mix of Greek, Biblical and personal myths make a wonderful salad of words.
Have a good weekend, dear Brian.
Hope T, and the juniors are swimming.
Joy always,
Susan
Very well done!
Wow, this was beautiful Brian.;) Love and to do anything for love appeals to my romantic mindset.;)
And I have always been intrigued by Greek mythology.;)
Have a great Friday,
xoxo
You've just got to go for it.
Great words.
Brilliant 55. I just love where you broke off...
Why is it that some people hear apple and think Eden but I hear apple and think pie?
Either way I guess it could be sinful!
Right on, brother! Brilliant! Love love! And damn the consequences! Besides, apples are tasty and good for ya!
Eat all the apples you want...you psalmist you.
Thank you dear Brian for sharing. Blessings.
and thus the fall! in more ways than one...very nice write!
a monumental cliffhanger!
Love knows no fear
Excellent Brian : and I want the last word to be "gooder". I know there is no such word, but there should be.
How do you produce such consistently good work. You are amazing ....
Ah the dreaded apple makes an appearance.
Fab writing Brian, I love it.
Only you can create music out of mixed metaphors. :-D
♥namaste♥
Outstanding! I love what you did with this poem!
Adam Eve's...who's to blame!?
Yes! it's about time someone takes the apple's side, I should have known it would be you!
Oooh, when I read this, I thought, "He's playing a risky game here - how is his audience going to react?" Well, it seems your audience is quite enlightened, which I guess I don't find surprising, after all.
Like all, I love the blend of myth and Biblical. Or is it myth and myth, "gaining knowledge of each other"...?
Awesome. Love the mythology. I'm still looking for my little bit of fire to steal from the heavens.
Fabulous! Enjoyed that like a good, juicy, mango chomped right into! And no mean feat...you've been posting regularly since 2008!!!! Hats off, hats off...you deserve some form of recognition!!
Wonderful image!
Love the analogy that came to mind: stealing love is most certainly stealing fire. But I think the gods are on your side and you'll get away with it.
Wow - moodily romantic!
It's beautifully creative writing like this that truly feeds my soul. I missed reading your posts so much. Thank you Brian for inquiring about me.
I really like this!
Ah, the apple. It's always the apple of time and mystery. :)
Brian Miller -- your words are a gift to the world -- glad you share.
xo
That is one neat cross!
I loved how you started with birds.. fire and then the fruit ;)
Oh well! May I say this being a fine tribute to ...
Hugs xx
That is such an evocative work, Mr. Miller. Absolutely wonderful. I would certainly like to know more!
Glad to see there are two sides to every story....you romantic! have an awesome weekend!
Apples are my favorite fruit.
Nice 55, Brian!
This is a random reaction but are your kids reading "Percy Jackson and the Olympians"? Cause you are lovin' the mythological references this week.
Ooohh... chilling and yet so romantic...
"yet that is not
why i tremble
in your presence" -- this says it all!!!
Love knows no bounds...does it now!? I am sure Adam and his gal didn't know a thing about bounds when they shared their apple and ... (ahem)
(smiles)
agh - the liver - and it grew every day anew cause he was immortal..ongoing pain..and from there to the apple..and the quivering..love and pain as soulmates? think they are quite close..and spring is in the air..nice and think you don't need herakles to rescue you ..smiles
Absolutely brilliant! Have a great weekend, Brian! :)
evil. good and evil? lol. Nice 55 Brian.
Cool! My parents always read me greek mythology when I was kid, and that's one of my favorites. And the Garden/Devil references are good. Reminds of weed kinda
it's really an age old tale isn't it? you never cease to amaze me with how much of a wallop you can pack into 55 words.
biblical greek myth....hmm....didn't know about this....do tell more! me likes!
A new shout out in my post, this one was really the most.
It was really sly, I'm such a clever guy.
Whoops screw that, meant cat!
At first I thought this one would land in my top 10 faves from you, but that list has gotten so long it's more like the top 100.
Very nice.
Have a great weekend, jj
Very nice, I like how you connected the ancient myths--all warning us of our mortal limits--but love transcends, somehow.
Very delicious !! i loved this ..
Brilliant Brian. Love the last stanza.
Tremble for sure!
Hi! Brian...
Both good and...apple, Adam and Eve, comes to my mind too!
Prometheus...Thanks, for sharing your 55 words too!
DeeDee ;-D
Yea, lets all set to steal our Steal!
oh I love it, I love how you applied the old images to your love. Great!
Just excellent....superb flow from stanza to stanza...makes it all of a piece. Vb
Love it! And a 55 to boot :)
I just don;t know how you summ up so much with so few words but well done, Brian. It's all a matter of perspective love, isn't it? the good and the bad as one might call it.
Your mixture of allusions works wonderfully.
Oh, yes. Gaining knowledge both good and bad is the only balanced way to do it. Awesome 55!
This one almost scares me a little. Maybe that's the point, yeah?
Incredibly delicious aftertaste your poetry leaves in the mouth..at times..that is when it is pulling at my heartstrings
excellent juxtaposition of mythology.
and...
I want more :) excellent as always!
i hope they wont be jealous for your stealing a lil love :)
