| Some days you are the bird, others the statue. |
what does it take to be a man?
my youngest says,
"snowboard the mountain."
my oldest,
"watch the news and suck
as many lemons as you can."
my, they grow up fast.
What can you say in 160 characters? Go tell Monkey.
The picture inspiration is from One Shoot Sunday at One Stop Poetry.
These we actual answers given. I can see we have a long way to go in our learning...smiles.

Wow - two very different and fabulous perspectives. Pretty astute for little guys!

stoned truths
Peace, hp
your name is safe...today
Two children from the same parents, but with different perspectives. Each is unique.
Ha. so profoundly funny. Bird or Statue?...that is the question!
Think I may have issued similar answers while growing up. Well played in 160!
Great answers :).
Anita.
Before you know it. And they will have "learned" you a lot in the process. Loved it.

It seems like forever since I posted, and made my way over here,
great photo and love your caption, out of the mouth of babes.
The seagull floats overhead and in the morning mist leaves the nectar of wisdom.
Joanny
the younger has courage; the older has wisdom; and fruit does not fall far from the tree
Wise children....:-) awesome
loved it all, Brian. a great way to start the morning...umm..end the night? anyway, i adore when you write about your kids. i can feel the love in your words.
If one takes the question -- what does it take to be a man -- as a poetic challenge, then your children have managed to capture the ummary of the possibilities. Well done, Brian and children.
ha - ha - love the title and love the answers of your boys ;=)
maybe you should read them yesterday's kipling poem "if"...smiles
What a difference a few years make. Gotta love 'em!
Here's hoping you get to be the bird today!
O.K. this was funny and revealing Great way to start my day!
Watching the news does make you want to suck lemons ...... I love to hear those thoughts of the little ones.
Gosh, brilliant as their fathers, I say, they take it and run with it lol
Wow. Smart fellas you have there!
Cool - love their answers...two perspectives...I love what our kids think of us! hee! hope you are having a great sunday with them!
I have to leave a comment now and then just to let you know I'm still reading, still here. I love the picture, the comments, the kids. You are a fortunate man, Brian.
too fast! enjoy your lemons today, brian (smiles)
Pass the lemons, please.
I prefer limes, but I am not a man. A very touching post Brian. Thank you for sharing generations of wisdom.
Okay, I'm chuckling at "Some days you are the bird, others the statue" as it seems to illuminate the disparities between the two son's views and suggests that the boys are taking cues from Dad--who is both bird and statue. Well-played in 160, my friend!
How cute. Wonder what they'll say in 10 years. Nice to know that you're their role model.
Love your 160 words!
Perhaps the statue sees the bird as a blessing.
First of all, loved the photo and caption. We've all been the statue more than once. (Of course, I am NEVER the bird..)
;)
PS. Sucking lemons is my specialty...
Loved the photo and caption...so true. And your kids' answers so charmingly reflect where they are developmentally in their own world.
What does it take to be a man anyhow? Who knows?
You got that right Brian. Blessings.
I like the younger son's way of looking at it. :-)
Do you do that? Watch the news and suck lemons? Where do those thoughts come from? I can only marvel at the logic and intuition of small children.
ROTFL. Loved the title you came up with!
out the mouths of babes:)
what does it takes to be a man?
From first word of your title to last of the 160 ~~ just great!
True and fun words!
I'm glad I don't have to be a man!
Your kids are hilarious!
Great way to involve the kids.
Many a true word said in jest. I got such a kick out of this poem :)
Perfect, wish I'd written this (said in a friendly, non-jealous way).
Gotta love the way kidlets think. :)
What a title! Great. I love their ideas about being a man...where do they get them, I wonder.
Nice one brian--catches the metaphor of the statue pretty well in both cases, I think. No matter what pose you strike, someone will come ...sit...on your head.
A question for the ages....all ages. Great stuff, Brian. Thanks for playing along with he Sunday 160.
Ha ha, cool, witty.
Nice one Brian
Love the answers! Different perspectives though..
They do grow up fast.. smiles xx
honestly my favorite is to listen to them sing as they make up the words...i dunno where they got this...i seldom watch the news unless i am so boyantly happy that i need depressing...but they are funny none the less...
Kids, honestly! How quickly they turn into us lol I asked mine about the prompt, youngest- birdies tired eldest-birds going to take a sh...poo on the old man's head. Pessimists at 3 and 6 respectively...
lol..your boys are so cute. Boys just are entertaining no matter what they do or say! :) Make sure you make lemonade with all of those lemons, ok?
and they are both right...:-)Hugs
They surely do, first to know s if what words they say, that comes as surprise more than the height they gain
Like father, like sons... :D
Hahaha--laughing both at your children's cool answers to that question and your playful title!
I'm for snowboarding the mountain (well if my knees were any good)
That photo was the perfect intro to this post. Love it.
I love this! Perhaps sucking lemons while watching the news helps to make is not so depressing. Your children are priceless.....
don't they just. grow up fast, I mean.
so young and already so wise.
Brian, definitely two different perspectives. The snowboarding one made me laugh.
Pamela
Two very individual ways of looking at things!
Love that photo.

Nuts in May
Ha! loved this Brian. Cheers.
on whose head is the bird perched? Yes, they do go up, but still today, I'll go to the mountains before I suck up the news and lemons.
Woohoo! Two totally different but equally wise statements!! Awesome!! :)
"Some days we are the bird, and on others, we are what the bird does" ;-)
I think I'd prefer to be the bird just about any day.
hahaha two ways that are pretty funny
But right on the money
As it can be done in different ways
Although I wouldn`t recommend rhyming for days
As pretty soon a man you are not
Just a loon trying not to get caught
Don`t worry the cat will eat the bird
So it won`t be able to shit a turd
That be nice
Just be sure and give me some spice
This is why I never want to be a statue.
This is awesome. If you can suck on lemons and snowboard mountains, you can do anything! I think those answers are fantastic. This was fun :) Kids bring a lot of joy, don't they?
Enjoyed your boys outlook! Statue or bird…decisions, decisions lol!
Since my nick name is Pidge {short for pigeon}, I choose the bird…
♥ ஆεlεɳa ~.^
Wonderful caption, title, and post!
Excellent!
Just simply love how you put all elements together in one 'big' poem! Wonderful take. Brian! Thanks so much.
Ha, love your eldest's answer. I prefer to stay away fromt he news as much as possible, as you usually don't need those lemons to make a sour face.
Children outpace us so quickly!
Nicely done.
Regards...
I've always said that some days are diamonds, some days are stone. I like your perspective much much more!
Rick
Fabulous caption; sounds like you need a sidebar blog to include commentary by those clever ones!
lol! This was funny, Brian.
Great pic!
Smart kids!! :)
I have never heard that, "sometimes you're the bird, other times you're the statue."
Really.
I am using it tomorrow..you know the chance to use it will come up.
I love it.
Clever boys! Like the picture caption - how true...
I love the way they think.
Lovely Pics!
A very clever challenge of perspectives! It's not a metter of right and wrong! It's a matter of vision and understanding qualified by experience!
Ah yes, the perception of a children's view of the world.;)
For some reason this brings to my mind the poem by Rudyard Kipling entitled If.
One of my favorite ones, even though I am a woman.;)
Have a great Monday dear Brian,
xoxo
Love the picture and the title of this post!!!
CJ xx
Two wonderfully different kids Brian, how lucky you are. Great poem; and I love being the bird.
I'm so glad you can hear your children speak. I need to work on that. LOVE the perspectives.
Your boys seem to have your sense of seeing beyond the obvious. Love their answers.
Hi! Brian...
(Laughter!)
Thanks, for sharing your sons' thoughts or views with your readers,
too!
[I really like the latter response...even though both are great!]
DeeDee ;-D
Suck on lemons??? Ha!! Hilarious!!
Love their thinking for sure!!
Hugs
SueAnn
is sucking lemons and watching the news related???
Love that picture :D
To say so much in so few words. Funny how siblings can be so different. It's always been that way with my sister and me.
Cheers!
LOL! It is probably easier to snowboard the mountain! :)
Hahaha! Well said.
They sound like perfectly good answers to me. :-)
