putting lipstick on pigs
only pisses them off
& leaves you a hot mess,
still we watch the news
as if gospel truth
as the world turns
all
the days of our lives.
what can you say in 160 characters? Say it then go tell monkey.

I watch the news because Brian Williams makes me feel like someone is at the helm of all this crap. I know, he isn;'t, but he makes me feel that way. Nice 160, Brian!
Oh this is an interesting one. Blessings.
Yes I too watch the news and most of the time with pure amazement! Amazed that we actually do these things!!!!
Hugging you dear one
SueAnn
It's strange, i've been close to a couple of (smallish) events that ended up on the news or in the paper. They never get the story right, in my experience. Multiply those errors by all the possible "events" and you have a lot of misinformation out there.
pretty true...perfectly written....
I feel this way when hubby watches for hours...!
First of all I've been watching DOOL since it's start when I was in Kindergarten. No lie! lol As for the news, I find it disturbing that many people take it as gospel, that always bothers me as it changes alot sometimes. I think many people hear news stories and never think to disect it or use their best common sense.
I have delivered pigs, but never tried to put lipstick on one... so funny.
I notice Fireblossom watches Brian Williams too. If I watch the world news, he is my first choice. Mostly because he is so damn good-looking... ; )
Thanks for your visit today.
I do my best to avoid the news. Up here, eh, we get to watch both the US media as well as our own, and the difference in the perception of what is news is stunning to behold...they need more than lipstick to pretty them up!I think a lovely shade of "truth" rather than propaganda would really go a long way to bring out the inner beauty. :) Hope you are all having an awesome time, wish you all the very best of luck, and I'm wanting one of those postcards. Colour me envious and excited for you at the same time ~N
Only watch the news if you are feeling overly optimistic and need an overdose of dressed up tragedies and bent truths.
I mostly try to avoid it, but when something big is going on I get sucked in too!
I take my news on the blogs. I read Drudge.
...and in those few words you've preached an entire sermon.
I arranged my college courses around One Life To Live.
Give me Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert! News I can enjoy or at least laugh at.
I like to watch the news, but only certain stations. Some of the newscasters turn me off.
:) news is news and even though it's draining to watch it...we have to be aware of what's going on......
great job with 160 - and it's so sad but true that they seem to hold the keys to the kingdom - and grow more powerful every day!
I watch the news so that I can find out what not to believe.
the news becomes more and more like a reality tv show than a serious news cast everyday ... well done my friend. case in point, less time spent broadcasting about the awful disaster in Japan and hrs upon hrs spent on charlie sheens breakdown...not seriously telling us he needs help, but making fun of him...lipstick on pigs indeed.
i watch the news today because i don't want to live my life with my head buried in the sand anymore like nothing else matters.
great advise about lipstick on the pig, thanks i will keep that in mind
Bwahahaha... Gone are those days forever, we hope. Lots of jobs for spin doctors... Hehehe, I enjoyed this - especially the last few lines...
I try to stay away from the news. I used to be a news junkie, but realized how slanted they are and of course how they thrive on sensationalism.
Nice poem to express all this.
Hope you're still having fun in my hometown. Enjoy.
Yeah the new is a bunch of crap
As somethings get a bad rap
Just to get people to watch
When really it's one big botch
As alot of it isn't true
But sure I don't need to tell you
For it's once again all about the dough
And now away I go
Yeah, I hear ya on this one.
Lord, ain't that the truth? So depressing.
So serious
So true
And...so REALLY funny!!!
Brian, on the best day of your life, how did the world turn?
I think it's funny that people choose a station to watch because of the talking head on a given channel, like most of them even know how to write.
Politics are too much a part of anything "official" anymore. I get my news the old fashioned way - read enough and you get to the truth (at least YOUR truth).
Very nicely done. Aren't you supposed to be traveling???
It's no longer news being reported, it's opinions being spewed...lipstick or no. Great Sunday 160 and thanks for playing.
Reminds me of that old saying, "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear"...
We do? I'm so out of it.
No two stations ever report the same issue the same way, goes from one extreme to another and Sirius radio is the same slant but I expect it from Sirius just not the major news stations.....one day the truth will survive the spin.....just have to believe that.
Hope your weekend is going well.
......:-)Hugs
Great 160. You can't always depend on the news for truth. Especially if it's Fox. ;)
So true. And well put.
I'm not even sure I could make a point with 160 characters.
Good job!
=)
Ha!Some of the news (not the 'real' stuff--Japan, for example--but the filler) really does feel like a soap opera. Well done.
I am guessing you are still in NY, and you write as well in NY as at home. Good to know! Missing you....
I don't watch the news...high blood pressure, you know. It is such a catch twenty-two...to be informed or not, but with the truth or not? It's too easy to see how biased news on the television or in print is. Someone always has their own agenda.
How did you evening in the spotlight go?
sorry - this one made me smile because my uncle used to have pigs and i just tried to picture how they would've looked with their lips painted...agh...but i also get the deeper meaning of this post...i do...
had saxophone workshop all day and my brain is just a bit empty right now...smiles
enjoy NYC!!
LMFAO! i stopped watching the news years ago on the advice of my shrink. stopped watching the soaps before that ~ are they even still on? great 160, Brian. thanks for the giggles. dani
I watch the news hoping to understand but often get more confused.
Oh! This is pretty intense!
Gospel Truth- very well said..
putting lipstick on pigs
only pisses them off
& leaves you a hot mess- darn right!!
Sunday Hugs xoxox
Effective, nailed-it read.
Hi! Brian...
still we watch the news
as if gospel truth..."
Great use Of 160 words...I agree and believe me I don't watch or listen to news in America...Just International news. (However, I still have a grain Of salt by my side too!)
Thanks, for sharing!
DeeDee ;-/
Hm, eye-popping start to your 160. :) As a rule, I no longer watch the news as gospel - still, there are times when it catches me off guard... Nice 160!
hahaha have you ever tried to put lipsticks on pigs? I can't help picturing you trying. Would the pig stand still? Must be quite a struggle to do.
ok so I assume this is an saying a don't know so I keep reading it literally. Too funny.
are news true?---
I wonder , my dear Brian, too often... how far do they go with their lies...
Hug!
I don't watch the news anymore. Seriously, I only listen to NPR on the radio. This is a good one. Hope you are enjoying NYC! xo
At times the mindless dribble is solitude from reality of the lipstick on pigs.
Yes, Brian..our media and how we are affected by it is quite thought provoking. Like why we spent days and days of air time on Charlie Sheen and startlets or linger on the death of Michael Jackson, while there are still soldiers losing limbs and life out there. Escapism?
I miss Walter Cronkite.
BBC news for me -- but nothing's gospel -- including the gospel.
there are so many things going on that we just don't need to hear about...like Charlie Sheen, for example!
Canadian girl here. Watches CTV Toronto, but talks back to them all the time lol!
When I watch Days Of Our Lives, at least I know what I’m in for Ha!
♥ ஆ ~.^
About the closest thing I get to the news is listening to NPR in the morning on the way to work. That's enough for me. Fox, CNN, all the talk, talk, talk, news shows just tire me out...you said so much in so few words!
Great imagery in the first stanza. It made me laugh, though I know the commentary is a sad one. I wonder what America would be like if our news wasn't filled with fear-mongering? Hmmmmm... loved it, as always :)
I've never tried to put lipstick on a pig and I can't/I mean won't watch the news because it gives me nightmares. My real life is enough to deal with.
Powerful 160, as always, Brian.
I do hope that you and yours are happy and well. I miss you.
Oh yes a little lipstick to cover up and make things appear ok. good writing Brian.
I hear you, I decided yesterday not to watch the news the whole day and I felt so much better.;)
Good luck tonight Brian,
xoxo
All I could think of when I read this was Sarah Palin. :)
One is tempted to take your first two lines, add a third which says "Discuss" and then set it as a post-school examination for all senior students.
I am always impressed with how much you can convey in so few words. We humans are an odd species.
loved the first line brian :)
and certainly the entire poem.
trisha
Love your humorous antics to truth
Soap opera. Evening news. Same thing.
and yet, we only have one life to live....
lol cool or what, love it
After watching the news, I have to go research everything that I'm interested in... like what's happening in Yemen, Bahrain, etc...just to see what's actually going on. What a waste of time.
Your 160 is spot on Brian!
To deface a pig is a terrible thing to do. Yet, some of our so called great minds and leaders make light of such. I'd hate to be a pig, not because of the lipstick, but idea.
I've always wondered how that little saying came about - pigs are fairly agreeable creatures and don't really have lips to speak of.
Exactly.
