55 - this is just a test, if it was an actual emergency...

i still have dreams

of walking into class,
finding a desk, not in
back, slack, nor
the front, suck up,

when the teacher walks
in, handing out the
final exam and i look
around, sweating, knowing
i am failing, cause
it's the first day
i've attended---

then wake up realising
my test---

is just beginning.

Tell a story in 55 words. Give it a try or just read more, go see g-man.

Love this.

I usually drema that I have a test, but I'm late and I can't get there no matter what I do.

Ha. Probably quite a bit of symbolism there, huh?

I have school dreams occasionally, and I dropped out in the eighth grade! Yep, they're definitely talking about something more than just school itself, as you so well pointed out.

We can look at every challenge as a test. The good news is that if we fail one, we can learn from it and work towards passing the next.

Pastor Sharon said...

Yeah. . . That just gave me test anxiety. . . need a nap now.

Are you channeling your inner student? Oh crap, I studied the wrong thing!

CM said...

Oh I hate dreams about school! I sometimes dream that I didn't finish high school and I've been missing my classes. I panic and try to make them up, but can't find the classroom. Hummmm....what does that say about me???

TALON said...

I just hope whoever grades those kinds of tests is kind :)

Loved this 55, Brian!

Zuzana said...

Yes, when we think everything is finished, that is when everything begins.;)
But talking about these kind of dreams, I often dream about being back in school and having to pass math test once again, not having studied at all.;)
Have a great Friday dear Brian,

Kind of a nightmare isn't it?
Or maybe looking at what could happen and you have a chance to change it.

Valerie said...

I never dream about school or tests. You could say school didn't make much of an impression one way or the other.

Some tests are harder than others, but if we don't attend class we may remain stuck in a nightmare. I love the depth of your thinking.

I hate those kinds of dreams. I have a recurring one in which it's finals, and I can't find the classroom. So I totally felt this! Nice write!

We're all attending this classroom of life whether we know it or not. It's best to get involved and quit letting it pass us by. I like how you get involved in life around you, Brian, and then shake us awake to go along for the ride.

Why is it universal to humans to have that dream? It's not a fun one!

Worse yet is realizing all those scary tests were really only child's play.

A 55 with 55 comments--and I am screwing it up by being #56. You've caught that feeling of apprehension well of being out of sync, in the dark, yet expected to know the answers...excellent, neat and cutting little 55.

Tina said...

In that dream, I'm the teacher. With no lesson plan. Shudder. Always good to wake up to reality. Not that reality is any easier... ;-)

Belnda said...

Oh Brian, I still have dreams like this, too. Not much of a relief waking up from it. Loved your 55.

I used to have nightmares about tests when I was at school. No more, that's one good thing about getting old. LOL

At 66, I thought I was done with all the tests but I seem to be facing the worst ones of all right now. Losing my job of 21 years was the and having to deal with that was the worst of my life, now having to move from my rented home of 13 years and trying to figure out the next step is the next test. I think I'm failing!

I can sure relate to the sentiment expressed here..."my test---is just the beginning." And I like how the first line stands alone, love that.

Always look forward to new posts showing up in my google reader :) and thanks for not pointing out the glaring mistake I made in my first One Shot attempt. I did fix quickly. It now sounds better and is accurate...lol

Love it. Usually my dreams of tests is that I just get a blank sheet with no questions and the teacher won't tell me what I need to do with the test.

That said, this was an incredible poem that told a beautiful story in a limited space. Awesome!
