will you catch me
when i fall?
the hardest part
of taking that
step when you
stand at the edge
of the cliff,
toes digging
in the dirt, doubt
roots wriggling
for purchase,
is trust...because
i don't know
what is coming
next...like crossing
the gym floor to ask
a girl to dance...
& if i do
it might hurt
but if i don't
you can sure bet
come sunday
when you peruse
the news
my name will be
listed among the
obituaries...
will you catch me
when i fall?

i've learned that having faith in myself is the only way to fly through life. nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say!
and to be there to catch our loved ones is our gift of love for each other.
keep the faith babe!
what a wonderful time that was had by all! fun to see you . i like this one!!! xxoo
As long as you don't jump... LOL :)
oh remember that feeling of being scared to approach someone you like???this brought me right back to jr high
Faith is so strong here...but then your faith seems to slip away with doubt towards the end...
I love this. A lot.
I seem to recall falling last night, but I thin that was the result of a little too much to drink.
A great image this and so true for all of us even as we age. Your bloggers are here to catch you anytime but you never seem to fall!
I read this and start singing "Parachute" from Something happens. do you know that? ha, that's my answer to you
I remember those days. Eek! Faith isn't easy to maintain when fear marches in.
It's a hard thing to learn...stepping out on faith. But faith doesn't promise only roses...it promises someone there to catch us when and if we fall. Beautiful, Brian.
Oh yes, having the faith and trust to take chances and knowing that someone is there in case you fall is the best feeling in the world. Really like your words today Brian. Happy Monday!
I will catch you dear friend!! May we all catch each other this holiday season. For some, the season is a tough one. Let me be aware!!
Hugs
SUeAnn
sometimes you have to catch yourself, you know? it's those hard times that make us stronger.
bah. who am i to say give advice? i'm afraid to take any leap whatsoever. btw. i hate that whole hard times/stronger business.
"Yes I will" says that person :) Smiles.
Joy always,
Susan
Somewhat morbid, but nevertheless a question we all want to ask..I am sure whoever it is will catch you when you fall :)
So much in life resembles jumping off a cliff. You probably have a large group of people who love you waiting with their hangs crossed over one another to make a strong landing place for you.
free falling, yeah i'm free falling
away
we catch each other and ourselves on our better days, yes?
Another deep thought post/writing from you. Many things to ponder in life's journey and sometimes difficult to push through when faced with the fear of the unknown. I've been there far too often. Ha! I can tell you, whatever the case, one DOES come out on the other end. And you how "come out" has everything to do with how you react/respond to those events.
From reading your comments already, you have MANY bloggie friends that will most certainly catch you. That's what friends are for.
The leap of faith -- kinda have to do it now and then. Another goodie, Brian!
miller, well you know me and trust...we havent always been the best of friends...and faith, well the same...but you always seem to have more than enough to go around, brilliant piece friend
cheers
Absolutely love this one Brian . . spot on!
So much quandary to life, but live we must and trust is vital.
Brian, I love how you frame these deep thoughts that go beyond the stated words. They leave one thinking. I guess that's true art.
Yes! We need faith and hope most of all. Well done.
This post made me well up with tears, b/c it was a page from my life last week.
Your writing just finds a place in my life, always.
My son took a huge risk, that I encouraged him to do, and it didn't work.
And I was there to catch him when he fell. When someone makes the promise to be there, they'd better be sure they have the heart to go through with it.
This weekend almost killed me watching his disappointment. It was worse than if it had happened to me.
you would catch your son...no..?
Yikes, hope you are NOT in the obits for at least another 60 years!
And you may have won something -- check out my latest post. :)
xo
Heady stuff, Brian. We missed you participation in the Sunday 160, but enjoyed your Sunday post.
The most captivating word, the one that reached out and grabbed me by the ears, is your use of the word 'when'.
...WHEN I fall. Not IF. When.
There is a great deal of maturity, strength and wisdom gained that leads a person to know that falling is an integral part of living.
When rock climbing, it's often a good idea to practice a 'protected fall' in order to lose the unhealthy fear of slipping. In life, perhaps we'd all do well to follow suit.
Rest assured, I may not personally catch your fall- but if you've got a good belayer and you've placed good protection on your chosen route, any fall you take will be nothing more than another Waystation in your life's journey.
Better to try and fail than to have never tried at all. Faith is a tough one sometimes.
I will catch you when you fall...my arms are out....please answer my call.
Love this Brian, hope and having faith. have a great week. smiles.
so timely,
thanks Brian
Keep the faith.
Hey, Just watched 'Man on a Wire'. At one point he said "This is going to be impossible. So, we better get to work." Love it. -J
Trust is a hard but precious thing in life.
I really like the way you end this, Brian.
Love that: "doubt roots wriggling". Man...I know them very well! I have to constantly fight those doubts.
Splendid...
I loved reading it so much :)
Faith and hope drive us through all the obstacles in life :)
they say "as long as we have hope all is good" I think that as long as we have the faith it is also good ... wonderful post Brian!
I'd be there to catch you - that's what a friend is for...smiles
your question poses another question... one of which would be new to me,
"will you fall with me?"
no savior wanted, but one that will take each blow with me, not for me.
sigh.
you're always good at getting the old rusty brain a turning
I will... but if you insist I'll let go- only in dreams, of course
Faith is knowing you have wings and if you don't you will grow them on the way down. . . or something like that. . . I once read.
thought provoking write, Brian.
enjoyed it
thanks
Closing your eyes at the end of the day requires faith, will you wake up at home, or perhaps....but all acts that evoke courage and growth requite faith, the eternal spark that keeps us going.....nice write....
faith, trust...these my heart settles into with ease...hope is much harder for me.
beautiful poem Brian.
Without risk there is no joy.
So what exactly are you up to? What is it that you want to take the leap and do? Write that book, perhaps? In any case, I say pray about it, talk to your family, and if everything aligns, go for it!
Hi Brian,
Nice poem... my obit will be there before yours, pal... Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Lord Thomas of Wellington
:) The Bach
We have to take those steps...no matter how old we get...there always seems to be another cliff...I have learned to Just Jump....bkm
don't do it Brian. You are a beautiful person full of love and you don't need to be standing on that precipice.
So want to find a person to ask that question.Sadly though,in the end I always catch myself.
But I love to fly so I ready myself for the fall.Well, sometimes the fall hurts but what the heck. That's life!
Lovely. Nothing ventured, nothing, ..., well, you know.
It's called Faith dear friend, and we all need to live by it. Sometime more than others....Hugs
i know he will.
There's nothing nicer than having a safe place to land...
I am with jinksy--catching yes but no jumping.
You gotta believe! I just catched up with your past posts - it has been an extremely busy week...
In faith, we do not travel alone.
i will catch you if you fall... near me.
Ah, to trust and to dare, to go on a limb and to - perhaps - take the fall, if it comes. And then the hardest part, to try getting up again...
Beautiful and very appealing to my current state of mind, as I am scrambling to get off the floor.;)
Have a lovely day dear Brian,
xoxo
I loved the flow of this piece! The way you connected the dots was wonderful :)
Yes we are always caught when we fall - I hope :)
Brian, this was wonderful...... thank you dear for sharing.
Beautiful poem about faith. It's easy for some, but I think for most if us it is like this.
I will Brian. Trust, hope and some other things. Enjoyed your write.
we all will be there to stop you from jumping :)

Merry Christmas!
A careful calculated thought before that move is always wise.
But we should never be afraid of taking a plunge.
Nicely worded in this poem Brian
Hope yes but trust...can we trust world leaders, I've been asking myself too many times recently.
Greetings from snowy Helsinki!
I have a hard time trusting. And nobody would have ever asked me to dance cause I hid in the bathroom during all the slow songs!
Oh my! I love this one Brian! Faith. . . it's believing when your head says you there is really no reason to.
like crossing
the gym floor to ask
a girl to dance...
AWESOME!
It's always nice to have SOMEONE who will be there to catch you!
Faith, hope, and...love... for good friends like you...and strangers.
It is SO WORTH it to step out...just takes a WHOLE lot of sheer will.
I believe that she will catch you.
oh, powerful stuff there, Brian. so well written.
Excellent. I get this way down deep.
hmmm...to fail after trying or not to try at all, which is reality is failing...this one made me think.
this made me think of the first time I rapelled; the first step is the hardest. Guess that's true with any risk in life
I'll do my best to catch you. Friends gotta look out for friends. And of course, He's always there to catch you. Nice part of that whole deal ;-)
