when our love was young,
we would talk on the telephone
until we ran out of words &
then just sit and listen
to each other breathe,
as if it was some archaic
language between our hearts...
...beside you tonight i hum
along, as you speak those
same tongues, in your sleep,
savoring every syllable.
Tell a story in 55 words. Give it a try or just read more, go see g-man.

You hang up first. No, YOU hang up, first...............Okay, then let's write a 55 for G-man.
My 55 is HERE .
I soooooo remember telephone breath.
Sometimes I talk from my dream space which my husband finds amusing. He just snores,
I don't laugh.
; )
Brian this was beautiful... I believe there is some archaic unspoken language that occurs between those in love.
Monkey... my hubby & I used to play the Hang up game & then he would say..."Hey Kath..you know what..." and down would go the receiver... he was a bugger like that, but it always made me laugh!!
Hmmm, the charge from just sharing space and time...
I think we put too little attention on the joy of breathing.
HAKAWE, as gman says,
Dianne
So romantic. Wow, you made me remember things long forgotten. Thanks.
oh yeah, mine is up, for the bloggers also reading these comments, you of course already know!
You nailed that period of our lives so well!
Brian....?
You KNOW don't you?
This was Perfect Son!!!
Right On!
Thank you for always being so supportive...
Have a Kick Ass Week-End...G
Awww...you know I love it when you write mushy stuff for your wife, right? :)

Aw. Sweet, sweet. Gives me the warm fuzzies.
... and then you start to breathe in sync, and there is but one breath...
Oh, this was so pretty. I can remember long phone conversations like that......you just don't want to let the other one go. Now it's "I'm fine, can you get bread on your way home". :) But the love is as strong as ever even we don't talk as much.
yeah.. new generations won't get it though... between the TXT,LOL and OMG, they is no room for romanticism anymore!! (ouch, I sound so "mature"!!)
Gorgeous!
So sweet.
A very thoughtful poem...beautiful. It reminds me of the early days when my DH and I were dating. We would talk until 2 or 3 in the morning, and then get up to go to work the next day.
I like how you connected that with today. Very touching.
monkey man is too much, it took the romance out of the moment!! i was all wrapped up in the 55 and then... no you first, no you
Ahhhh. True sweet love living on. Definitely an archaic language that never ends.
So sweet!
xo
the more that changes (with much time) the more that stays the same (if you're lucky). just wonderful.
When my husband and I dated we had one phone and it had like a 50 foot cord on it, just enough to get to my bedroom and get the door shut and lay on the floor. This brought back nice memories. Listening to someone breathe is so amazing. Very nice Brian!
That is so amazing. I had tell this one to my BF since the nature of our relationship is (pretty) long distance and this has touched me on so many levels.
are the snores Morse code for something???
Those wordless moments are priceless.
Nice 55 Bri
Moonie smiles
those are great phone calls...nice 55 :)
How sweet! I just love this.
Just knowing he's on the end of the phone makes me grin. He doesn't have to say a word. Love this.
So lovely, Brian. I'm laughing at Monkey Man's reply - I remember those endings to phone conversations so well - lol!
I used to love the late calls just to say good night.
I too love your romantic side Brian. sweet 55
Monkey Man's comment made me do a snort-laugh kind of thing. SO embarrased to admit that. LOL NEvertheless, it is so true. I can remember a few moments growing up getting caught up in the "phone" thing and simply just sitting and listening to the silence. Silence CAN be beautiful, huh? :)
i hate it when you have nothing to talk about :)
great 55 :D
And the phone had a cord AND a ROTARY DIAL. :-) Have a great weekend!
We did that too AND @Monkey Man!
*sigh* i remember...
sentimental
awesome.
and sweet . and vulnerable.
Romantic! Lovely.
I have not thought of this in such a long time. yes just to enjoy the same breath. love is great is it not. take care.
Then...and NOW! Somehow I don't know which is BETTER!
Your usual tres bien, Brian! Always a true pleasure to read your stuff!
PEACE!
Monkey Man said it for me.
I remember falling asleep on the phone back in those good old days of young love and the serenade of speechless breathe. I hope he wasn't listening to me snore.
Great 55! Have a fantastic weekend!
oh, that's way better than counting sheep! ;-)
My love and I spent almost a year on opposite ends of the country, and many, many wordless phone calls just so we could be close. Sweet. You brought tears to my eyes. Especially since my love is preparing to leave me for a two week business trip and soon we will repeat the scenes.
Ahhhh, nice.
jj
Monkey man stole my thoughts. Yo, MM! Love inspires so many 55s, One-shots and posts.
Love, love, love . . .
Love and joy always,
Susan
At least you still find her fascinating lol... nice 55er, I am still on Thursday, sigh....I think I lingered on that proverbial limb too long.
Cheers,
Joanny
Oh, that is just lovely. ♥
That was lovely! Now I want to call my husband up and breathe a little :)
I came over from Jannie's, thought you'd like to know!
Ah, the endless conversations....
I remember those calls. Nice one.
Hi Brian love your poem x
Beautiful.Perfect.Complete.Bravo!
Oh sweet love! How tender you have spoken. Softened my heart for sure!
Hugs
SueAnn
There's no romance in my soul, the only telephone breathing I recall is the heavy kind... OK I'm kidding. I did actually like this very much.
Oh to go back to that time! What is it that happens to us as we get older and take one another for granted?
Nice poem, the first two lines just took me back 45 years to when I would talk on the telephone to Issy until the money ran out. Tanks for taking me there.
You are so right. Sometimes we do the same thing. It is a joy to just listen to each other sleep.
Nice, Brian. You should start a new 55 fiction, based on 55 sighs instead of words ...
This has to be one of my favorites. How you capture that common beauty in all our lives and put into 55 words, I do not know!
your memories live, love...wow
ahhh memories hubby and i would talk on the phone all night till someone fell asleep when we were dating.. even tody we talk at night until someone dozes off.. love this...////
:) Love this.
Very nice, it reminds me of another: "Grow old with me, the best is yet to be" - E.B.B. have a great weekend.....
You are such a romantic. I just love it.
PG
Funny thing about my sleep as I age...I get less and have no memory left over from it after waking except pitch black nothingness.
Dianne wrote on my blog that she wants you to do a book. If you want the information on how I do mine you have my email. Be glad to walk you through the ins and outs of the self publishing.
OH my lord Brian....this melts my heart!!! I love it...I LOVE every word and breath. Whoa.
true ! and the sea does it too!
Cheers-
ooops, our love is 'old' but we still talk like our love was 'young'... :)
I remember talking on the old rotary phone to some ancient love interest, no idea what we said to each other, a reminder of times past. Now we carry cellphones around in our pockets and we are never far away from each other.
This is a real treat for us too since it was a long time in the making.
so loving and beautiful. love is just like that.

Been there man. Been there.
thanks everyone...completely off topic but is anyone else having a hard time with their reader? all the pics are blown up and there is no scroll bar to see older posts?
I like that simple of the breaths, "as if it was some archaic
language between our hearts..."
Such subtle lines, the heart can move in. Such intricacy and intimacy in the most simple things. Beautiful 55, very romantic.
Gorgeous--loved those days of first love.
...some archaic language between our two hearts...
Wonderful! You're such a romantic. :)
yes - I remember the very words Monkey Man wrote! lol!
Wonderfully romantic - and that is just you! lol!
My 55 is up - be it later than normal.
I remember these times! Oh to go back!!
I am having a major problem with the dashboard ......that's where I read my blogs. So I did some research and changed the lanugage to Spanish........parts of are in spanish but the post are in english and it's back the way it was yesterday!!
Very nice, Brian.
Very nice although I don't remember the breathing thing. I think we were just together so much that we didn't need phones.
how beautiful and how intimate
your love so shines through..and i can almost hear her breathe..
I wonder what they call today's breath...Text Messaging Breath...no emotion no nothing. Boring. I love what we got to experience and how you captured it. Very well done. Have a terrific weekend :)
delicate and romantic!
Quite a romantic 55, Brian!
Thinking about breathing made me think that I had a dream last week about being able to breathe under water. Someone was with me too. Perhaps...
very sweet.
too bad to sounds i listen to at night sound more like a buzz saw :P
Really nice. It is interesting all the ways we communicate love. It has to be so.
Isn't that an awesome feeling?
Ah, the language of love...sigh. D
That's gorgeous!
Lovely. I remember doing that too, and I am hoping to do it again soon with somebody extraordinarily special.
Sweet. :-)
ah fond memories loved this mate :)
Beautiful. It sounds to me as if your love is still very young in so many ways.
This is a neat 55, brian
Dude, no one does it like you...you express brilliantly;)
Can't add to what's been said before: what a lucky couple you are! How beautifully you express your feelings. Thank you.
LOL...who wouldnt remember such memories...you are a wonderful storyteller, B...I respect your abilities.
Cheers.
ah, so beautiful, so romantic - lovely 55!
What a lucky, lucky narrator.
(I hope it's a true one)
Love it because I still live it. Wonderful....
That was beautiful and touching, your are such an romantic and that is so alluring.;)
xo
Oooooh, I like this one. Breathy and romantic -- I haven't had a telephone conversation like that in good long while!
I remember, when I was a student nurse, talking late into the night, with the resident with whom I was so madly in love...we were both always so weary, we'd fall asleep on the phone, night after night!
Ah, a touch of sweetness in a 55...nice! I bet the truth of it is even nicer.
Hi! Brian...
This post is very revealing and quite nice too...So many of the previous commenter's have written or expressed my thoughts about your 55 too!
Thanks, for sharing!
DeeDee ;-D
I am impressed. A lot of couples run out of words...then it's peaceful and relaxing. Just breathe lOL.
I'm a sucker for love.
Oh yes, I remember those days. You nicely captured those moments.
Truely beautiful!
Brian, listen to your love breathe while sleeping, has to be up there with watching the stars. :))
aaah teh sound of your partner sleeping is so comforting & sweet, I love it...then I love to turn around and doze off myself in that comfort
the late night never-ending never-truly-talking telephone conversations have stopped however. That would be silly if you're both at home right :p
Hi Brian! This is beautiful! :)
Brian, this is so very sweet!
At 111 comments, I am sure this has already been said, but...this is pure and delicate charm. A memory moment so familiar... I simply could not love this more...Truly:)
utterly wistful and beautiful. SIGH.....
Very touching, Brian..I do that too...I listen to the rise and fall of my husband's breathing in the dark until it lulls me to sleep.
