Well meaning,
they taught you a tree
was a circle on a stick &
your body, just as thin,
but look out that window,
look at your neighbor;
real life has texture.
Say it in 160 characters (spaces included) then go tell Monkey Man.
I drew this earlier in the week, while teaching the 2nd graders how to draw a tree. It is Sharpie markers on the back of a worksheet. (Nothing but top quality art supplies here, lol.)
So I will toss it into Sunday Sketches as well with my good friend Sophia.

You can do it all, can't you! This tree is wonderful! My art teacher required us to have sharpies as one of our materials that we used. We used them quite often too. I love the reality of art. You can have it anyway you want...stick figures, round, any way is right! Beauty in all of it.

People have such a way of flattening things to the most simple.
Well it tossed itself in the air then swirled around like a leaf and came down to land!
I remember trying to teach some 10 year olds to draw a tree when I did a school placement. It's so interesting how they never really look at a subject but just refer to what is stored away in their memory as 'tree'. I was trying to get them to look at shape rather than tree but perhaps they were a little young!

I would frame that and display it in my foyer. I can't draw a crooked line but someone has to be able to play the piano! I am going to attempt my first 160 today. My life has texture today... :-D

Brian, this is so sweet to me. I watched my son in art class one day, learning to draw a tree. He was learning to see, really. Very special.

Oh I love it! Another artist who renders in Sharpies on copypaper. Awesome. I need that lesson in trees myself. Trees & hair are the worst for me to render. This has a very Asian feel, peaceful and serene.

Great sketch! I simply love trees, they are constant in an ever changing world. The huge one that stands in front of our house is bare, but their is still beauty in her swaying branches.....

Brian, I just read your comment about one shot. Thanks for your recognition. Life has so many surprises. I've been writing for many years (mostly for myself). Once I started writing a children's book in rhyme, but I never considered it poetry, maybe it was. Anyway, I am so grateful to have found poetry and you, because I discovered it through you. We never know how we can influence others by just being ourselves and following our bliss. That's what you do.

Nice tree. I like the branches. I'm of the opinion that the best sketches are ones drawn on the backs of worksheets with highlighters and pens. The stress to make it perfect is gone, therefore they usually turn out better.

I know of no one else, past or present, who can weave such a vivid and poignant tale in so few words.
