i became the college football champion,
on Playstation, (Xbox, or
whatever your flavor)
in just one week,
& my family asks,
hi, who are you?
do you remember me?
i guess
its just a question
of priority...
oh look, i just ran
another touchdown in
of course that is the only way
i ever score these days
but...
winner, winner
i got no chicken dinner
eating spam out of a can
but don't you know,
i am the man, cause
nothing says love
like lee corso
giving commentary
on how good i am...
i am...
i am the college football champion
on Playstation (Xbox or
whatever your flavor)...
hey where did everybody go?
kids? honey?
not even a note
...i guess
it's just a question
of priority
I have been in a quirky mood the last week or so. This is a kinda tongue in cheek look at how we can get our priorities out of whack pretty easily, on things that don't really matter all that much.
Do you One Shot? Why not? One Shot Wednesday opens at 5 pm today. Write a poem and come join us.

Love your quirkness Brian. Thanks for sharing... Blessings.
Let's order one varsity letter to emblazon the sweater of our playful balladeer of quirkiness. Nice write, Brian. Your priorities, on your blog anyway, always seem clear and compelling.
Amnd if it's not video games, it's the internet. Priorities aren't quirky. Good one, Brian.
I would have guessed blogging was your addiction actually. Guess you have two addictions now? ;)
Those games can be very hypnotic. I think they take the place of meditation and/or prayer for some people.
BV...no you are a lot closer to the truth...this one just made an easy target...
Lorenzo, ty, i try...great piece about the pencil at your place...hint, hint, to go read it...
glynn, ty...and if its not internet its....just fill in the blank...smiles.
nessa, its all an escape from reality...that and many other things suffer from our addictions...
JMR...smiles.
I can relate,lol.Thanks for sharing!
Been there dude. I have definitely lived this one.
You do just as good when you're quirky as when you're not. And I like your work both ways.
A+ for your quirkiness and the moral you wove into this poem. Excellent.
:)
Ha the X-Box... never got into it myself... prefer writing poetry hehe. Great poem.

Totally love this, Brian. Priorities are getting a bit mixed up with my Farmer recently - more on the blog today!!
CJ xx
I am glad you realised. Most of them just keep trudging on. Priorities, priorities . . .
Joy always,
Susan
Good one -- amazing some of the things we're proud of.
I think we all need to re-evaluate our priorities from time to time. Nothing wrong with that.
Our hope is to not let our boys get into video games as they get older. Just too addicting...
On the quest for constant entertainment we have lost sight of what's really important. Thank goodness my children have a pack of kids to play with in the neighborhood and they have great imaginations.....I always tell my oldest Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, etc. didn't have to have the internet, cell phones and x-boxes to succeed! Great write....
I'm feeling unquirky as all hell. Priorities askew. Damn! I hate when that happens. I do love this piece though.
You rock Brian. I am the Madden champ here, but have been dethroned on most of the other games. Priorities? Yes, good point.
I like the line of "where did everybody go?" -- and I was just getting warmed up! I think I've also been in a quirky mood lately, Brian. Maybe it's catching.
What starts out just having a little fun can become consuming in a short time, huh. Even for someone like you who is a loving husband and father.
I have never been into video games and get frustrated with men who are obsessed with it...
So much truth in that...Bejeweled is my addiction!
We humans can get lost in the oddest things! Spam from a can ? yikes- but I have gotten frenetically absorbed in creative endeavors...not for continuous days, but goodly chunks of time!
Haha....I know lots of people eating the spam!! :)
In my house it's Farmville for Dr. M & blog reading for me. Thank goodness we ride together in the car sometimes - so we can actually TALK to each other LOL.
You really hit it it on the nail Brian. When our priorities are off those closest to us pay the price for our absence. If it goes on long enough, after awhile they quit waiting for us and just go on without us.
I remember reading a poem (way way back when my now grown children were little)about enjoying the present moments with your kids cause kids don't wait. At that time, I was right smack in the middle of mothering and it felt endless. I didn't realize the fullness of that truth until they were grown. It's like in a blink of an eye they are grown up and gone.
Granted I did spend a lot of time with my children, I just didn't enjoy it like I should have. Now that I am doing this a second time I have learned the value of enjoying it because in a blink of an eye I know they will be grown and gone.
PS I like your quirkyness. :)
This so true. We were just talking the other day about how the internet can just suck time from the day. It is all about priorities. When someone says I wish had the time to..., I think, you do have the time - you have 24 hours in a day, what are your priorities.
I knew you were in a special mood.Well we change priorities, whatever helps.
Right again, Brian. Thanks.
Tongue in cheek perhaps.. but all too true.
Thanks for the wake up call.
I use to eat Chef Boyardee cold out of the can, upstairs in my room, reading anything...so you know I get you
Very cool, Brian! Lovely to discover your blog and great writing!
Love it, but priorities is where it's at and living in a cyber world - careful...
this sounds very familiar - not with computer games but with blogging...forgot dinner - children told me something and i didn't listen - husband disappeared - did he tell me where he would go....OMG - already 1 am and alarm clock goess off at 5... will come in a minute honey - just let me check out this last poem...
I know people like the guy in your poem. I like the way you write life.
I have a few close friends whose husbands are taken right from the words of your poem. you captured this well :)
Quirky is fun and you do it so well. The message is so true. It hit home, ouch. Not playstation but the internet. Hours and hours of distraction from who...I am.
(Brian, thank you for wanting to follow my blog. I've experienced problems on other blogs, and found that I had to chose to follow before writing a comment. Don't know if that's what's happening.)
My addiction is the internet. :)
You probably wrote a poem that many should read!
So very very true, Brian. And I think all of us, at one time or another, have neglected the truly important people in our lives.
My son has the game addiction as well. :)
Message received loud and clear. I leave the Xbox etc to the kids. Actually give Mrs. MM and I more alone time.
We can definitely get involved with something that we block out all things around us... :)The Bach
I used to spend hours with the Sims. Not so much with the characters, but designing of their houses. It has worn off though.
twitch

"winner, winner
i got no chicken dinner"
I will be spinning that in my head for the rest of the day.
Haha, love it. "Quirky" yes indeed. Video Game poetry--entertaining. At least it's a fun addiction! I know people like this, to be certain...and you've hit it on the nose.
:).
I so pictured my son and his cousins back in the day...
oh they drove us crazy with the intensity.
i do the same thing to my family when i am on photoshop doing my graphic design stuff
...and be an X-Box Hero!
Valid poetry in this modern world... we can always use a reminder to have our priorities straight (even in a quirky way).
Hey, quirkiness is good to have in one's life for awhile. And yes, the reminder of where are priorities are in our life is good. It's so easy to get lost in unimportant things at times.
We all have different priorities at different times. You know you are there for them regardless...
This is so true of so many... My hubs almost spent the entire Christmas day last year playing Call of Duty. *sigh* Cool fun post!
This happens every time they come out with a new Professor Layton game for my DS. Doesn't make us all bad.
We might need reminders every so often though. Great job!
LOL!! this reminded me of my future brother in law.. he does nothing but play games.. my little sister is marrying an ass but she doesnt get that yet... loved this post.. im showing this post to my other sister so we can talk about what an idiot he is and what a sucker our baby sister is some more...LOL
That reminds me, the new Halo just came out today...
It's a very good "tongue in cheek" look and a valad comment. Nicely done, Brian! Really nice ...
I love this! But, Brian, I rule the Madden!
Quirkiness is a good thing. I really like this. It can be hard keeping our priorities balanced. Interesting look at this topic.
Jen
well done champ, lol
yeah it is everything to do with priorities! (-so did mine-)
when you clean house and re-prioritize you can become lighter and brighter!
Liked this. But did you have to tear yourself away to write this? And do you still get the cheerleaders too?
Photography.. blogging.. games.. fishing.. yard sales..
What? I'm prioritizing. ;)
I like your quirkiness. And sometimes things that don't matter matter a lot.
Oh, brother! You sound like my husband. LOL.
Can't believe you just dropped Corso's name in a poem. Props just for that. Video games are so addictive. Well done
Thanks for stopping at mu blog! I've enjoyed your writing!
I loved this poem!! It is so easy to mix up our priorities and usually to our own detriment.
Brian your quirkiness makes me smile! i love it! :-)
as much Quirky as you get Brian, you are right we do mix our priorities most often! and yes, you are the champion around here, NO DOUBT about it ever my friend..GREAT one shot Champ ;)
I get seasick when I play video games.
But not when I'm on the internet.
Priorities...
So true.
It is so hard to prioritize isn't it? A daily struggle.
"That's the only way I ever score these days..." Great line. I can so resonate with this...fantasy football
is my wife...and my life...
Just get T addicted and then you can do it together! ha. Just don't forget to feed the boys! ;)
Balance. I've always had trouble with balance. I'm working on it tho. Forever a work in progress.
Love it. Love how you have fun with words (are they your X-box? ;-)
Great piece, and a little quirkiness never hurts. We all have our little obsessions and compulsions. If I did not have older kids to keep me from going astray on the internet and writing, I think I would be quite stinky and scrawny by now.
Thanks for stopping by. Enjoyed :)
Ah wonderfully written Brian!=D Priorities~ sometimes it is good that we all think about it especially in life :3 That will make our life easier, i guess=D
that's great! I love it.
Oh I love it Brian, in this world of technology, it comes with new addictions :)
With three males in my house...I know what your family is going through!!!!!!!!! My hubby is living his f=dream racing online with the xbox! One son is into Madden and the other plays them all. However, the boys have given up the games for their current flames...guess I don't rate, hubby is still racing!!!!!
my husband tends to obsess over his x-box. drives me crazy. and out of the room.
Hmmm...yes, that kind of sounds like my hubby. But I have to admit that if you swapped out "laptop" for X-Box, it would be me with the electronics compulsion.
Food for thought...
82 comments almost swept me up in a dead faint. iLike it. Its truth.
lol cute
and sadly true for many ;-)
Very cool! Of course, I can relate!
A hard truth to be accepted & digested!!! :(
Guess this waterfalls location!!!
While roaming in Manori Beach
Here is Number 87..comment that is ...and all I can add is you have to get football however you can...I love it, and hockey...and Indy racing...fast cars - fast sports...even if it is spam...over chicken...bkm
Quiky and nicely done oneshot Brian, sometimes priorities have to be put aside and just let things be.
quirky maybe, tongue-in-cheek maybe - but I heard the song in that...
Hey, at least you're scoring!
I can so relate to that. I tend to get over focused on stuff at the expense of my family. Thanks for the reminder.
Nice job. jj
But videogames matter! Don't they? Hmmm... I hear crickets. :P
Not quirky at all--too true of too many who pick their heads up out of whichever electronic device & discover like Rip Van Winkle, that life has gone on without them.
You, on the other hand, are fully engaged in life, and most definitely have your priorities right (write)!!
Your quirkiness speaks the truth about us getting our priorities wrong!
I can relate - I sort of did the same thing last week.
An X-box or whatever champion?...and you got carried away by the fame?...wow! I guess the mind needs proper check in handling things that in overall may not be really worth the fuss.
Cheers!
I think one of the things I love about your posts is that they are so candid and genuinely you - reflecting your state of mind and what you think about, what makes impression on you, what occupies your thinking...
Glad to know I am not the only one out of whack these days... sigh...
Have a lovely day,
xoxo
Nice poem. Well, it reminded me of my experience with FIFA2010, time just flew while playing it and winning championships with many clubs.Sometimes gamers get carried away and forget things around.
Interesting...
Liked the way you brought in common things into a poetical statements..
ॐ नमः शिवाय
Om Namah Shivaya
Nice one..thanks for sharing Brian.. :)
Take care
I broke up with a man that loved his Madden on Sega more than the six years of us. Priorities! A good one-Brian. Strange moods can produce some great writing. :)
champion huh...pooh I bet I can beat you. Let's just play one more game to see
Brian leave it be no explanation at the end.
So if your a video game junkie it's cool, we'll Have an intervention and get you on to pebble beach golf at pogo where it has only 53 facebook fans because it is so hard.
ROFL... But OH! so true!!
Wonderful Brian!!!! Not for video games, but can get distracted in other realms, however always priorities for me come first (especially being the parent of an active...very active 4 year old girl, lol) Sometimes I wonder.....I feel somewhat played out like a video game!!! ;D somehow I always end up fumbling the ball! hehehe, enjoyed this "quirkiness" very much! ~April
Can't help but smile as it reminds me of myself once... Great one you got there, Brian
Can't help but smile as it reminds me of myself once... Great one you got there, Brian
Quirks are one thing.. priorities, another!! And yet, they seem to go hand in hand...
And somehow, the others fail to see that.. but then again, they have priorities too...
Very well written, Brian... thought provoking...Loved the casual style you have written it in!
This is a lot of fun and yet also quite serious. Nice One Shot. Love and Light, Sender
Right on Brian...whether it be X-box...blogging...tv...oh, so many distractions from human relationships.
Gaming..it's been taking the guys away and away for a long time now. And even the rest of the family too in a world of computers, tv, game boxes all interlinked. How do we ever get any work done. Very playful but with a message. Well written. Thank you. Gay (@beachanny)
Beautiful ballad! It is so easy to forget our priorities. I should know! I do it all the time...
nowhere island
I think lots of people have experienced this phenomena in its many forms, especially in the realm of electronic entertainment - surfing the internet, phones, MP3 players, texting, games, chat rooms, etc.
There's always something ready to distract us from reality, but I try not to give them too much of my time.
"Brian said,"I have been in a quirky mood the last week or so. This is a kinda tongue in cheek look at how we can get our priorities out of whack pretty easily, on things that don't really matter all that much."
Hi! Brian,
I must admit that I try not to let that happen to often, but I must also admit that sometimes it's very difficult.
Thanks, for sharing and the reminder!
DeeDee ;-D
If it makes you a champion, go for it.
priorities...
Greetings from the pool - time to swim and tan after Ramadan...
Well said!
excellent piece my friend...i remember when the sega megadrive first came out with sonic in the early 90's...it didnt have a save option so i would stay on it..and on it and on it and on it...crash at 4 am then get up at 6 for work...never again...or so i thought until i had kids and brought a playstation into the house.....damn..thank god for blogging eh!!!..cheers pete
we don't have any of those games around here, yet, but they may end up here.
i just posted my first one shot. i'm not much of a poet, but i had fun!
OUCH!
Reality Bites........
loved the idea.
Yes - regardless of the action - can be pretty easy to do! But it happens to us all. I am the war hero - giving others their ammo and health, saving them from their foes:)
Wow, Brian you nailed that whole mindset. Game players can get lost in a whole 'nother world, oblivious to the reality going on around them. Good job.
Brian on the edge... I like the experimentation!

Oops, put Katherine's address in instead of mine-- not intended...
http://mairmusic.wordpress.com/
i know exactlly what u mean my priorities are never staight
):)(:(
I have never understood the appeal of video games. Think I'm missing that gene.
cute. Xbox, playstation, blogger - oops, was that outloud? (smiles)
I loved the poem and the thought behind it.. Great words.. I love to follow you from this moment..
--Someone Is Special--
I have fallen victim to this one a few times. I have actually reduced my PS3 time to practically nil. Sacrifices must be made.
Got it perfect Brian !!! So amny of us really mess up this way !
Hi Brian,
I like it! I was hoping this would be tongue in cheek -- it's kind of sad, really. A good reminder, though, so true! I LIKE IT! Thanks for another awesome One Shot.
~xo
Your quirkiness brings out terrific words.
Easy to get pulled off sides in life.
Nice One Shot Bri
Moonie smiles and thanks
is it unusual for you to feel quirky? That's part of why I love you. :)
Priorities. yes yes yes.
Ha, I liked this light poem. How often do we get caught up in games or television, that we have no clue what's going on around us. This poem touches upon the problem of balancing that many people face. Great One Shot.
very creative!!
Nicely done
:)
Exactly. Whatever happened to playing outside, riding bikes and using our imaginations? If it's good for kids, it's good for old kids too.
Boy, I really am my mother.
Great writing, I've been after something like that!?
Catherine
Possibly the top page that I have read all day!!!
I'm pleased you said this post?!?
-Sincerest regards
