I have been in a quirky mood the last week or so. This is a kinda tongue in cheek look at how we can get our priorities out of whack pretty easily, on things that don't really matter all that much.

Those games can be very hypnotic. I think they take the place of meditation and/or prayer for some people.

Good one -- amazing some of the things we're proud of.
I think we all need to re-evaluate our priorities from time to time. Nothing wrong with that.
Our hope is to not let our boys get into video games as they get older. Just too addicting...
On the quest for constant entertainment we have lost sight of what's really important. Thank goodness my children have a pack of kids to play with in the neighborhood and they have great imaginations.....I always tell my oldest Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, etc. didn't have to have the internet, cell phones and x-boxes to succeed! Great write....
I'm feeling unquirky as all hell. Priorities askew. Damn! I hate when that happens. I do love this piece though.

We humans can get lost in the oddest things! Spam from a can ? yikes- but I have gotten frenetically absorbed in creative endeavors...not for continuous days, but goodly chunks of time!

In my house it's Farmville for Dr. M & blog reading for me. Thank goodness we ride together in the car sometimes - so we can actually TALK to each other LOL.
You really hit it it on the nail Brian. When our priorities are off those closest to us pay the price for our absence. If it goes on long enough, after awhile they quit waiting for us and just go on without us.
I remember reading a poem (way way back when my now grown children were little)about enjoying the present moments with your kids cause kids don't wait. At that time, I was right smack in the middle of mothering and it felt endless. I didn't realize the fullness of that truth until they were grown. It's like in a blink of an eye they are grown up and gone.
Granted I did spend a lot of time with my children, I just didn't enjoy it like I should have. Now that I am doing this a second time I have learned the value of enjoying it because in a blink of an eye I know they will be grown and gone.

This so true. We were just talking the other day about how the internet can just suck time from the day. It is all about priorities. When someone says I wish had the time to..., I think, you do have the time - you have 24 hours in a day, what are your priorities.

Valid poetry in this modern world... we can always use a reminder to have our priorities straight (even in a quirky way).
Hey, quirkiness is good to have in one's life for awhile. And yes, the reminder of where are priorities are in our life is good. It's so easy to get lost in unimportant things at times.
We all have different priorities at different times. You know you are there for them regardless...

Great piece, and a little quirkiness never hurts. We all have our little obsessions and compulsions. If I did not have older kids to keep me from going astray on the internet and writing, I think I would be quite stinky and scrawny by now.

With three males in my house...I know what your family is going through!!!!!!!!! My hubby is living his f=dream racing online with the xbox! One son is into Madden and the other plays them all. However, the boys have given up the games for their current flames...guess I don't rate, hubby is still racing!!!!!

I think lots of people have experienced this phenomena in its many forms, especially in the realm of electronic entertainment - surfing the internet, phones, MP3 players, texting, games, chat rooms, etc.
There's always something ready to distract us from reality, but I try not to give them too much of my time.
