of her gaping maw,
raucous echoes ring
our every step...
her walls smooth,
her moss damp,
she leaves us slick
with glistening sweat...
bodies trembling,
her apex reached,
where rivers gush,
we join her torrent...
until she spits us,
breathless on her shore,
above her throaty roar
we cry, "once more!"

Brilliant, Brian, that looks like such fun - and the photographs are wonderful :D Your poem beautifully captures joy and the wonderment of nature.
its roaring run...about 2 hours away...there are larger falls at th top...but just down from it there are two that you can ride...one about 45 feet...the other about 25...the boys had a blast...me included...smiles.
Wicked cool! In every sense. But there are definitely three boys in this story...
To go down stream "that way" sounds fun :)
Woo Hoo! So much fun!
And you can't beat a poem AND pics!
I bet your boys thought that was awesome!
That looks awesome fun Brian! Did C inspire you to post a pic of yourself today? Woohoo!
I'm with Bonnie and some of your other commentors (I still haven't looked that up to see if the proper word or not). Anyway, I thought you were writing about sex.
A rattling good read. Thanks for this.
All the best, Boonsong
So LOVE the pix of you, Brian!! Always fun to see more of a favorite blogger.

Loved the pix, Brian...all I could think of is: OUCH ...thinking of hitting my butt on the rocks.
cheryl, i will hook you up with a mohawk pic in the next couple days...let me give it a fresh shave...
AWESOME!!!
Did you have like rug burns on your backside?
Good thing you posted the pics to cool us off after that HOT piece, you sly devil you!
so much fun! such fantastic words to describe playing like an otter :)
oh that mama nature always has some fun up her sleeve!! Looks like a great time was had by all! c
techno...i almost woke the house up laughing between you and vicki...um, no rug burns from this one...
the rocks were actually worn very smooth from the flow of the river...we cleared any rocks of size out of the pool area wher it drops you in as well so that no ankles got bitten...
on the large waterfall slide there is a hump that tossed the little ones in the air a bit which was kinda cool...
Now that looks like a very fun day
: )
Did I ever tell you that you are a great Dad? I sure do think you are.
That was hot. Then I saw the pictures and was left feeling like a bit of .. perv.lol.
The water slide looks fun too though ;)
Looks like fun. Without the pictures, my mind was taking me in more erotic places. I mean all that trembling....
Beautiful 55!
Holy Cow! I want to do this. That looks like a blast, B.
Hey wait, what am I doing reading this already? Only one comment. I must be out of ammo. :-)
Ahhhh! I loved the pictures. You know, I've always wanted to try this!
Your words gave me chills and
I loved the imagry in these lines:
"until she spits us,
breathless on her shore"
BEAUTIFULLY written. This could have meant many things, and I have a feeling it did.
Oh oh oh you are right on with this one. This is a keeper. The assonance and consonance are fabulous. This sounds great read aloud.
I wanna write that poem......(whine)
I'll be there also, and fly fishing to boot, so I'm hoofing it for awhile.
happy weekend, later, Dianne

You're so naughty.....or is it just me !!!
Well doesn't that look like fun. Where is that at?
yay! that looks like a great fun :-)
what a beautiful natural playground :-) and the poem always pleasure to read!
Awesome! Water is so evocative - yet right now here, looking out onto the bouncing rain on the patio it is just plain inconvenient! I have to take the recycle boxes out for collection! lol!
Great stuff!
What an amazing waterfall - and amazing words to describe the experience!
That looks fun, fun, fun.
the fun things in life are always the silly stuff we did as a kid.
Stay silly. Great 55.
Mine's up too.
OMG how fun and the photos are just wonderful. Excellent 55 my friend. Have a wonderful and watery Friday :)
I hope you gave the kids some time to play and didn't hog the place. It does, indeed, look like great fun, Brian!
Mine is at:

Like this, Brian. It must be nice to have sons so you can let your hair down as well....smiles
You sure are having fun! *giggles*
erm ... I started reading and thought it was an erotic poem *blush*
Excellent Brian :)
oh - la - la - kind of sensual waterfalls you have over there...looks like lots of fun!
Wow, and you did not call me to come out and play with ya all? Blessings!
Nice job, can't believe i've never been there!
We just to do this with a plastic sheet, a steep hill and a bucket of water! To hear or read my non-PC illustrated Friday 55 click here. Warning you may have to read the footnote after to make sense of it!
I want to play with you guys!!
Hugs

Nice story and beautiful photos--looks like fun. There is a place like this in Western NC... When I was in my 20s, I went down and hit a rock and had a sore butt for a long time.
We often hike to a waterfall very much like this and the kids (including the big one) enjoy doing the very same thing!
I wish we had such falls in Belgium....we don't :(
(3 new words found for me ;) )
Way to go there Brian. that is one awesome 55er and you are one awesome Dad.
Cheers,
Joanny
If I can ever get my 55er edited down from 200 words ---sigh, I think I will go to the beach.
That is the best water slide ever.
And your love song to Mother Earth is quite sexy.
you look like you are having a blast...and the piece ain't to shabby either
We have waterfalls around where we live as well, and it's a blast to slide down them! The only thing that isn't so much fun is getting bitten by the no-see-um's and black flies. Totally worth it though!
You guys look like you're having a ton of fun!
That water slide must have taken a lot of work to build.
Your 55 is just what I need in this gross heat! Glad you got in the action too, it would be hard to resist! Great 55 and have a cool weekend!
Adults who can play like that are healthy! :)
I want to go next time!
Thanks! haven't done a slide in far too long ! We used a lot of ropes and dropping into water-very different
jolt- gains a grin or two!
LOL that's just fantastic!!!
excellent!!!
I would be too scared for that...my husband wouldn't.
Which is why it is so important I stay with the guy (I kid!)
adorable pictures, B.
you described it beautifully... almost sexually.
Thanks for the pictures too.
Good to see that Dads can still be boys.
Wish I had a waterfall to slide down. : (
That looks like SO much fun! :)
What a rush. I've done that. I think my waterfall was bigger than yours, but I was little then so maybe not. :)
Oh, you naughty boys!
Had me going there for a minute or two or three. :)
Have a wonderful weekend!
Dang it, Brian...this has me 'reading between' the lines, so to speak. Don't know if you meant it that way, but this could easily go in a very different direction. I'm calling it a Y poem...
ha ha! This was the best poem ever, and the pictures were even better! :D
What a great waterfall! Better than the slides at the local water park.
looks like great fun!
smiles,
Lovely!Have a nice weekend :)
YES DEFINATLY A DECEPTIVE DESCRIPTION. I WAS AT FIRST THINKING ABOUT ...................... CAVES. LOLOL
You are just a kid at heart!
Oh, yeah, and you love to play with your readers with your choice of words, don't you? :)
woo hoo. .I wanna do that too..
Very, very clever, Brian. And the water slide... I'd be all over it. :-)
Very, very clever, Brian. And the water slide... I'd be all over it. :-)

:)
That was a great fun picture.

Nuts in May
I wasn't entirely sure what you were on about for a while. My imagination went somewhere completely inappropriate. But it looks tremendous fun.
Looks like lots of fun on a wonderful sunny day.
PG
FUN HAD BY ALL, TERRIFIC, LOL :)
How fun!
Amazing descriptive skills here, unraveling nicely into the conclusion of a waterfall. I am very pleased you had fun on them too, although it looks kinda scary!
Haha saw these on Facebook looks like great fun. I'd love to see the seat of your pants after that lot!
Now that looks fun!!! LOL
LOL, you were screaming there!
Mother nature is a force to be reckoned with for sure. Love the pics too.
What a thrill! As hot as we've been, that looks like so much fun!
WONDERFUL! I love these pics! A true father - son moment that will last a lifetime!
Wooowww..that sounded like a lot of fun, Brian!!! So who screamed more??? The kids or you? heheheh
Coooool refreshing 55!!
Enjoy the weekend!!!
What great fun! And very well described...
Loved it! And the waterfall sliding looks fun too.
You're braver than me but that does look like fun!
Love what everyone else said! Nessa summed it up nicely. Pics were WONDERFUL. Usually your words are enough - but this was great storytelling. Thank you.
Dear Brian: What fun! I guess the slimy slickness of the rock would precipitate any rough surface, cause that could be like sandpaper! Love the innuedo in your poem, referencing something I was embarassed for thinking about when I got to the last line of the stanza and realized; I am a dirty thinka! It's a water slide! haha! I knew that!(no I didnt!). Great poem!
woaaah
exhilarating and sensuous
looks like excellent fun
oh man what a great bit of writing Brian! I love that! The sliding looks like a blast as well!
Man, that looks like fun!
Nice. I knew it had to be something with water but thought maybe a water slide. Glad it was natural.
Umm...where is this river? :)
first, hello from GJK and thanks for your comment on my poem on my wordpress poetry-blog. the imagery in this poem-story is deep and rich. i enjoy the extended metaphor. very nice work...
Woo! Sounds and looks like a ton of fun! ;-)
