before i start this poem
a moment of silence
for friends that have fallen...
japanese lanterns
hang lightly on limbs of trees
lining the road
winding through the cemetery;
those that fall,
burst,
scattering seed
that grow in their memory.
Its been a rather tough week in blog land. Two friends that I was priveleged to know and read passed away. I appreciate the time I had with them.
This is for One Shot Wednesday. Write a poem and come join us.

Touching and heartwarming...
I loved the Japanese lanterns metaphors. It's just a sad thing people we've known dying.
I am so sorry to hear about your friends. I lost a dear blogging friend last year and it was incredibly sad. I had never met her in person but I felt I knew her well through her writing. I miss her a lot. My sympathies to you.
Brian--It seems that there are lots of us who are "remembering" this week. What sadness we are all sharing. Thanks for the words. They help me with what I am going through this week too.
It's amazing to me how attached we become to our blogfriends, and how strong the loss is when we lose them.
I know Japanese lanterns are an invasive weed, but I'm glad to have their beauty in my garden.
My sincere condolences, Brian.
So beautiful yet so sad. Sorry for the loss of your friends, my friend.
Oh the sadness that envelopes us when we lose something or someone that can never ever be replaced.
The sadness that we endure....(SIGH).
A lovely, heartfelt tribute Brian.
*hugs*
I love how well you captured the sentiment with so few words. Excellent post!

I thought of Barry while reading this Brian......:-) hugs
I like the thought of scattering seeds that grow in their memory.
A simple, but beautiful tribute poem Brian. What a lovely metaphor you use. Hugs to you in this rough week. Mortality walks a fine line that can be hard to ignore when we are presented with loss. Be kind to you and yours
bernie...you should, he was one onf them...the other was richard (aka buffalodick) that died unexpectedly yesterday...
I'm sorry to read of your loss. My thoughts are with you at this sad time.
Beautiful poem. Fitting tribute. Thanks.
All the best, Boonsong
Beautiful, Brian. And, I'm sorry for your loss.
I am sorry for your losses; it is hard to lose a friend, whether after a long illness, or abruptly. This is a lovely tribute, and a reminder. Thank you.
This is a beautiful poem, Brian. It's a lovely way to say goodbye.
Shame 2 in one week is harsh. I was aware of one. Very sad but I guess it's inevitable. Nice little tribute.
I am so sorry for your loss. This poem is a beautiful tribute. So touching.
What a perfectly written work. No one could have provided a better tribue. Very sorry to hear of the loss of such dear friends. You're in my thoughts...lifting you and your family up in heart and spirit.
Today my meditation portion was on friends: David and Jonathan. I took some time to think of all the friends who have made life easy, you know. I was overwhelmed and filled with thankfulness. In that list there were many who were my virtual friends but the connection is indeed very tender and touching.
I am glad for the people you met and so cherish.
Joy always dear Brian,
Susan
Such a beautiful dedication to absent blogging friends, Brian. I admire your heart. :)
We love our blog friends truly, Brian

It is amazing the connections we make with people we never meet face to face. Sorry for your loss. Beautiful tribute.
Oh no - I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.
Lovely tribute.
I hope memories burst when I fall.
what imagery. write poems about those we love before they die, and read them aloud to the source....
when it matters most...
following quietly,
Dianne
oh, Brian, I'm so sorry to hear that! may they rest in peace and may their families find peace as well. They will feel your words of love...
A great reflective piece
That is the nicest way to remember a loved one!
that poem gives shivers down my spine
A really touching tribute to your friends, Brian.
Sorry about the loss of your two friends.
One of the strange effects of cyberland is that relationships build up stripped down to essences especially in poetry so get to a deeper emotional level then sometimes in the day to day messiness of life. The poignant imagery of the poem reflects that emotion. I do poetry for fun rather than publication so for this week only, I’ve nervously posted an example from each of my blogs: an Elegy from Scribbles and Diversions, a Gogyohka from Random Twitter Stories, and free verse poem from Random Short Stories.
This is so beautiful, what a lovely gesture for your friends, I'm so sorry
I am very sorry to hear of your loss. You honor your friends with your beautiful words.

This is a lovely tribute Brian. I love the image - and as you know I was in a cemetery recently & can envision the scene there perfectly. Maybe I'll take a paper lantern for Willie :)
Boy, we were both very cheerful today! I think I'll try to write something that banishes sadness later this week. Maybe - if I'm ready for banishing...
Wonderful tribute. And the idea of Japanese lanterns falling to the ground and bursting with seeds is so beautiful! I love this!!!
Sorry for your losses Brian. Losing good friends is so hard!
Hugging you

That was lovely. Losing people whose words you grow attached to is kind of like losing a favorite room in a home. It's a place of comfort you can never return to. I'm so sorry for your losses, and for having to deal with two at once.
It has been a tough week in terms of losses.

Wonderful words, Brian. I'm so sorry for your loss.
So sorry for your losses, Brian..I didn't read those two men's blogs, and I am sure it was a loss not to have enjoyed their blogs.
It is always so sad to lose people we care about.
To be so touched by others that we mourn their loss before having a chance to meet... that's the power of this crazy blog land. Condolences.
"That rainbow we all must cross." A very heartwarming piece.
To propagate ourselves we have to perish first. The seed must destroy itself in the earth to shoot out into a plant!
My condolences for both...
