we were at the park,
the day the dinosaurs came back.
bright colored pterodactyls,
wings fluttering,
swooped down from the sky,
sending boys a'scattering
ducking beneath the slide
unfortunately, that's where
velociraptors like to hide.
they laughed & giggled
quickly running out of breath,
then sat on wooden bench
to eat a picnic lunch
chomp, growl, rip & tear
just trying to fit in,
with jurassic table manners,
much to mom's cha-grin
then with a great big sigh
and smack of their lips
they curled up with daddy-saurus
beneath a tree, to take a little nap...
...until the fun begins, again.
Just a silly verse today for my little dinosaurs...and Theme Thursday is at the park this week.

delightful, as delightful as your relationship with your kids :)
Sounds like a perfectly normal day with daddy. Glad you had a great time! Perfect summer-time type stuff.

A wonderful and happy poem! Thanks for sharing.
you have so captured the imagination of children
playing
this was a delight to read and to remember when
nice clipped lines
So even the most frightening of creatures take naps! A welcome thought ... ;)
Savour each and every moment with yer kids.
and that, dear gils is the moral of the story...indeed.
Great escapism for all of you! I enjoyed it too.
How fun! What a cute post! And NOW I know how to spell pterodactyls! lol
Cha-grin, absolutely delightful, you bring everything alive, thank you :)

Fun and adventure and imagination. And lots for the kids too. Ha.
Absolutely charming" I'm a little scared of that fierce dinosaur in the photo, though...
I enjoyed this, I'll give it a try today! Thanks Brian
What a fun time!
reminds me of when paul was little...he wanted to be lion when he grew up!
Sweet post!
a second helping..keeping up with the moonies LOL..another good piece..captured superbly..cheers Pete
Ha! Looks like one of your little dinosaurs lost a tooth battling a velociraptor.
I am not sure if you get my comment twice, the blogger is acting up.;) But I love this post in both image and words; there is nothing like quality time with the kids.;)
xoxo
Awwww...fun! I like the missing tooth the best! :)
Fun. I have dinosaurs here too. They sure do eat a lot ;-) You really captured little boys at play, loved the line "sent the boys a'scattering". I can see it.
yeah we lost front tooth about a week ago...gonna be a snagglepuss for the start of school...lol
Many instances of great word play. My favorite was "jurassic table manners"
Cool, fun write about QT!
wonderful! cherish the "silly" moments my friend ;)
Love your silly verse Brian! It reminds me of one of my favourite poets, who I still like to read long after my children have grown up, Dennis Lee.
Jurassic Park! Run!
I love that missing front tooth age (of course I've loved all the ages so far)-----daddysaurus---that's too cute!
No matter what the species, they like to have fun, eat and know that mom and dad are there.
love the poem, love, love the picture, his smile mimicks my daughter with the top teeth. Here's a silly poem back at you!
Lyin' Larry By Shel Silverstein
Larry’s such a liar--
He tells outrageous lies.
He says he’s ninety-nine years old
Instead of only five.
He says he lives up on the moon.
He says that he once flew.
He says he’s really six feet four
Instead of three feet two.
He says he had a billion dollars
‘Stead of just a dime.
He says he rode a dinosaur
Back in some distant time.
He says his mother is the moon
Who taught him magic spells.
He says his father is the wind
That rings the morning bells.
He says he can take stones and rocks
And turn them into gold.
He says he can take burnin’ fire
And turn it freezin’ cold.
He said he’d send me seven elevs
To help me with my chores.
But Larry’s such a liar--
He only sent me four.
Sounds fun Brian. A day at the park is always a good thing
I've been away for too long! Catching up on your posts has been so fun this morning!
Great job Daddy-saurus...nice poem to place with the picture memories of this outing...bkm
Your cadence and imagery remind me of Robert Louis Stevenson and his "Child's Garden of Verses", a book I practically had memorized as a kid (thanks to my father).
Such beautiful real-life poetry
Loved that you curled up with your boys beneath that tree and had to smile because of the table manners- and yes- carpe diem!
Little moments like brightly colored glass beads on the fragile string of time... roll them around, hold them up to the light, keep them safe in a zippered pocket in your heart.
Cute it may be, but it scared the life out of me.
AW, very nice!!
Toothless kids are sooo cute!! :D
Ah youth and the beauty of imagination. :)
lol very scary mate hehe, great poem as always friend :)
so fun, this poem...sounds like the day you had with your boys...lovely. Heartspell

Apparently the kiddosauruses and daddysaurus had a lot of fun, while mommysaurus had all the work to do! Loved the image of your boy with the missing tooth... hehehe.. really sweet!!!
I've been reading a few dark and scary poems today..this one was such a colorful change(no, this wasn't scary! :))
Little dino chomped a tooth right out of his head. I love playing make believe with me kids. Even in their teens, they still by in...for now.
Absolute fun! Your kids must have loved the good time AND the resulting poem. Well done, Brian.
This is so fun!
Some bloggers are so blessed with such time travel. Nicely written....AS ALWAYS.
You have adorable dinosaurs! Hmmmm, a nap - not a bad idea.
I love how you can take life's simple pleasures and turn it into a great poem. the dinosaur is adorable, even though I can see he's trying hard to be scary :)
Wonderful and fun!!!
Hugs
SueAnn
I will work on this tonight, at the free concert in the park.....
I added a comment to my poem sanctuary, that my 3 teenage boys are gone for a week. I thought you'd understand it!
Dianne
Terrifyng dinos! Wish we had your warmth, it's cold over here!
Something tells me you're going to wake up to your feet being nibbled on.
daddy-saurus,
You've pictured the scene so well!
I wish my son had a place like that to visit ... and he'd do once and again.. and mama-saurus would have to go and have a nap as well. Oh my!
I've learnt all their names tahnk him!
;)
Awwww what a cute little monster in that picture. Thank you Brian for sharing your day.....blessings.

A daddysaurus and his little clan... what could be better???
How fun! Love the photo, too!
Brilliant! Little boys at play! Nothing beats it! :P
Sounds like fun.
It would be really neat if the DNA from the wooly mammoths can be used to clone one of those. What might be next I wonder?
This is one of my favorite of your posts so far. You have a great family.
Kat
What? No longnecks or three-horns?
such a lovely day at the park!
What a cutie. I love the poem and the photo made it the best. :) Thanks.
That little dino looks like he would need a daddy-saurus to tame him. Fierce! :)
Truly enjoyed this one...
Also liked the repost from one of your commentors of the Dennis Lee poem. We're *huge* Denis Lee fans in our house. I particularly love Jelly Belly, although Aligator Pie is good too! :)
I loved seeing that sweet dino face in my sidebar! Looks like you had a fun time.
Cheers, jj
I can hear those little guys roar.

aren't you the smartie.
Thanks for all you do for One Shot my friend
If I were you, I wouldn't call it silly, I find it so cute.
Hope the sons enjoyed the day. Do they enjoy poems as well?
Joy always,
Susan
Look at those beautiful eyes! And that toothless grin! Priceless. And now the faces have a poem to mark the moment. Good job, Brian!

Lovely, Brian!
I had totally forgotten pterodactyls until you mentioned them. Awesome poem!
So cool!:)
this poem makes me think that it's the kids that made the dinosaurs come out. they can do magic like that...
What fun one, Brian. It's great how face paint brings out their creativity.
that is incredibly sweet.
Wonderful post. I love the line "with jurassic table manners" There's nothing like time spent with the kids.
Ah...! Love your so-called silly dinosaur shananigans; the poem itself is one to play on the heartstrings.
excellent, I'm a real dinosaur fan myself!
fun fun....although I might not have enjoyed the table manners :p
Yep, I've lived that, too!
how very lovely.
Simply delightful, poem and photo, daddy-saurus!
That. Is. Awesome. And Princess Nagger would have loved to have played in that dinosaur park. ;)
