55 - a perilous spring day...

listening to wood bees
munching on deck boards
of the porch
beneath my rocking chair,
humming & munching,
humming & munching
like sweet music
in the humid air,
with a cooling breeze
lulling me to sleep,
nestled in hopes they
do not succeed
before i wake...
but hope & ignoring
won't stop the would be's.

Tell a story in 55 words. Give it a try, or just read more, go see g-man.

You are fast with your excellent
55. That's a funny thought - you might awake to find yourself sailing through the air if the wood bees are joined by battalions of termites.

At 65, I've done it! My poetry book - Life's Journey by Carmen Henesy - is out on Amazon!
( Poems about the things that have been important to me in my journey through life, some humorous, some sad, some that may have meaning to you as well )

I hate carpenter bees. But I am loving this 55!

Paul C said...

Yes, we call them carpenter bees too. Annoying but the best alternative is to tolerate them in the heat.

Ahhhhhhh, the sounds of summer. Truly enjoyable.....can you feel the buzzzzzzz of summer?

I am SO behind on my blog writing and reading. End of the school year is always so draining and busy. Thanks for being so supportive of my writing....both blogs. :) Hugs Lisa

Renting... we have a gas heater, terribly inefficient, but we layer on the clothes! Anyway, me, three kiddies, 2 dogs and 2 cats all snuggled up together helps keep everyone warm and full of love!
Enjoy your summer, I miss it so much. I will survive my winter by listening to your words of warmth.

A very cool play on words, Brian! It's the "would be's" that get me every time. I've gotta work on that :-)

Oh you are a clever fellow. Good one!

TALON said...

I love the play on words - wood bees and would be's. Both require a lot of humming and hawing. A really awesome 55. I also see this person one day tumbling down to the ground when the bees are sated ;)

I did not know there was something called a wood bee. I heard of termites before. Maybe that is a glorified name. Lovely post Brian. You never disappoint. Blessings.

Ack! Bees attacking the sanctity of you home and hearth! Ick. I suspect that a smidge of sawdust beside my (woooden) shed is not a good omen. Thus far, I have ignored as well. I hope the shed does not fall down. I hope the deck stays intact for you as well.
Under cover of night,
creep quiet to their lair.
Smote them softly thus
to catch them unaware.

Good luck with that!
