borne from restless nights,
stretch barren as the desert,
empty without your presence,
stealing even the fire from
the early morning sun light
that visits me here to mock
my solemn solitude....
what have i done...
what can i do...
these sheets,
they bear no comfort
the crumpled sheets of my bed,
torn and discarded in the corner,
reveal your shoes by the foot board,
where you left them in your haste,
lingering still, your sweet fragrance,
as i press them to my face
to feel you once more in
my solemn solitude
what have i done...
what can i do...
these shoes,
they bear no comfort
just like these sheets,
without you to fill them,
what have i done...
what can i do...
until tonight
when we can crumple
these sheets again?
This is a Magpie Tale.

Just beautiful, Brian.
Such a beautiful poem, loneliness for a lover. Very nice thoughts.
brian, i love the visual you created here...as only you can do! your magpie is fantastic, full of yearning and desire, embracing moments that were pleasurable. very nice, indeed!
gorgeous poem Brian...
bittersweet
This poem expresses the eternal longing and hope for our lover's return.
Such riches you have gathered here Brian, in the form of stories that heal, awaken, nudge, inspire the heart.
i love the end the best. :)
Love the different images these shoes evoke for various Magpiers! Nice one, Brian!
Poem touched me Brian. Thank you and blessings.
Very nice tale of love and love awaiting. Always nice to picture it in my mind. Thank you for being able to do that with us.
Hope you have a nice day today.
God bless.
You're a master of unexpected endings.. though I've come to expect them with you.
Amazing how a person can infiltrate the very fabric of our lives.
Very touching..the saddest, to ask, "What have I done"? Only time might heal...
This is great, Brian. A beautiful tale written wonderfully...:)
awww, here you go with the magpie tales ... so so very touching! what a talent Brian!! have a beautiful day :-)
hasty departures in
the quiet of the morning..
a fragrance in the air
leaves questions.

Too late Brian. How poignant.
So glad to hear there will be a tonight for him! Happy Holiday, Brian!
Happy Monday - Great poem, but it just makes me want to hop in and make that darn bed!! :)
love this Brian. whenever I read you, my thoughts always begin to swirl onto other things...I think I'm saying you inspire me...off to write something (it's been a while) :)
just like these sheets,
without you to fill them,
what have i done...
what can i do...
until tonight
when we can crumple
these sheets again?

Damn, you're good!
I loved this, Brian. The hours between lover's trysts do seem so barren - you captured that beautifully. What wonderful inspiration you got from that photo!
so many unanswered questions - where did she go in such haste that she left her shoes behind? Why such poignant questions if you expect her to return?
love the line "Stealing even the fire from the early morning sunlight"
Sweet dude, crumple away! Blessings to you.
Ah, the bittersweet yearning. I swear there is a song in you.....
Hi Brian, Very lyrical piece you've posted here. I liked the hope in the last line. Reminds me of my youth.
The rhythm of your piece kept me reading...I love the surprise at the end...I was expecting an ending, but no, just an impatient lover, wanting another go of it!
Well crafted!
Now that's a good ending. I was expecting something sad, seeing I just came from Yodood's and read Jeff's before bed. Not all things end well, but this did :).
Oh I love the happy ending!
Beautiful. Love the ending.
I understand the feeling...
I like this. We ate crumpling the sheets now.
Beautifully written, filled with love and yearning. But the day MY husband sniffs my shoes, longing for MY return? A cold day in HELL. Just saying.
very heart touching and beautiful.
What a wonderfully wicked mind you have...how did you get to crumpled sheets simply by looking at a pair of shoes?? Beautiful piece, Brian
Yes.Shoes Are Made For Returning.
Your Magpie speaks volumes! I can't fathom how many of us have experienced what you so beautifully write about!
I know those empty crumpled sheets.
Love the images here. Very nice.
I love this one!
sweet moments of longing. so pretty. women's shoes can indeed inspire. and a great payoff at the end.
this is beautiful, brian!
I love how you are able to paint such a vivid picture with your words....beautiful
Loved the ending.
Creating and re-creating memories :)
Very nice. And I actually made the top 50 comments. Wohooo...
Lovely writing. A little sad but with a happy ending.
Beautiful and with a happy ending, as well!
Wonderfully romantic visions here, Brian.

I guess someone had to get up and make breakfast! Haha . No seriously, very sweet indeed.
Oh this is so very sad, but still so delicately written with clear feeling pulsing through. Beautiful poem, Brian.
Love this so much Brian!!
I'm so glad that he only has to wait until the night...phew! Nicely one.Heartspell

Oh, oh, oh.
To have someone write that to someone.
Does she ever get to see that he wrote her this????

Nice one, Brian. I'm glad this is ending with good expectations...hope the wait doesn't seem like eternity :) happy Memorial Day to you and your family!
U put me in the mood to go crumple instead of fold:-)
I can't imagine anyone smelling my shoes and wanting me back. And this just proves that we are definitely not messing around. :o)
Amazing work, Brian.
Bistar ki silwaton se
lagtaa hai kisi ne
toda hai dum yahhhan par
karvat badal bdal ke
[ from the crumpled sheets on the bed, it appears like as if; someone lost his life just tossing and turning...]
sweet- glad it ends with a anticipatory tune
I hear the longing....
wonderful expression of the loneliness and wanting of another....
Enjoyable and very descriptive.
Wonderful!
but still I ask..why torn sheets
very strong writing...liked it
Dear Brian: A very sensitive and loving poem of a man's love for his woman. The analogy to their love being the crumpled sheet and expression of that love. Excellent!
Deliciously romantic and so evocative.
This brings back a certain sensation that I feel after I return from the airport, as the man I love has left me yet again alone after another short visit...
xo
Such a pleasantly surprising ending. You write beautifully.
Brilliant! you had me captured from the first word, and it flows so beautifully throughout. A very enjoyable read. Thank you.
What chops you have! This is such a great poem, and I especially love the refrain. The image of the sheets bringing no comfort is so universal--when the bed of comfort becomes the torturous reminder of loss--really well done!
