we watch lightning
in the window,
(innuendo),
counting seconds
until the growling thunder
shakes the air.
how far apart are they?
we snuggle,
closer together.
What can you say in 160 characters? (spaces included) Go see Monkey Man.
I got an acceptance letter for a poem I submitted to be included in the Writers For Charity anthology this year. It will be coming out in May. My first published piece!

Congrats, Brian! That's really great. I'm proud of ya.
Speaking of those lightning storms...when I was little we would count out loud, "One-Mississippi, Two-Mississippi, Three-...." ;o)
Brian, well-deserved kudos to you!! Your writing is amazing and deserves recognition.
This is another example of a deeply-felt expression of your emotions. Wonderful!
Ah, Brian...glad for your clarification. I was looking at your metaphor and thinking Storm = Unbridled passion! Maybe a forbidden passion of sorts. Oh well...the beauty of poetry is that it can contain so many layers of meaning. Again. Congrats!
I do this too, when there is a storm in the night. Counting between the lightning and thunder that is.;)
Hope you are having a lovely Sunday,
xo
There's nothing cozier that snuggling up during a thunderstorm!
Congrats Brian!!! That is wonderful!!!! :D

I remember counting seconds during storms when I was little.
I never knew about counting until I watched the movie "Poltergist"! LOL! The father told his son that the thunder and lightening was nothing to fear. Just count and he will be able to tell that it is moving away.
Congrats on being published...that is so cool! And well deserved!
Hugs
SueAnn

Bravo! Good for you. But, you know, Brian, no one is surprised. Nope.
And my advice about the storm is, no need to chase it, it will come to you. (And I don't mean too people fighting).

Very nice. But honestly now Brian, who did not see this coming? Congrats my friend.
This makes me remember the my own childhood as well as when my kidlets were little. I love storms. They do too.
A big Congrats for your first publishing. Very cool!
It is about 2 hours,
are you busy?
Happy Monday ahead, Friend!
You Rock!
In my personal opinion,
lightening and thunder have ZERO distance, they are one, the sound and light crash at the same time, but the speed of light travels faster than the speed of the sound, when we live on earth and feel or visualize them,
we see light first, because light runs like a rabbit, we hear thunder later, because thunder runs like a turtle...
nature is amazing, why?
seeing the lightening first which does little damage or threats to human (indoor case), it gives us a warning that the big drumming sound will hit earth...I used to use my hands cover my ears before hearing the t-storm thunders...
well,
that's what I understand.
your post evokes deep meanings in others ways, most reads enjoy what image or implications it brings forth...
very remarkable piece.
Enjoy A Fulfilling Evening!
Hee Hee, I know what you're taalking abouuuuut......
You write so well, but I guess you know that already.
I was on a backpack trip as a newly-wed with another couple and that poor woman was terrified by the high mountain lightning storm the first night. oh well, I thought it was fun, as you do
mine is up HERE
Count me as a member of the not-surprised-in-the-least club. Well done, and well deserved!
Woo hooo you are a superstar!!
Great piece too - we all love a good thunderstorm, especially the great excuses they bring for closeness.
Congratulations. :)
I love thunderstorms too. I love feeling small, watching the skies, counting the seconds between lightning and thunder...
Great 160. Love/ Jo.
Happy Day Ahead!
Brilliantly written, as always! CONGRATS!!! I know its exciting!
I know what I am sounding like but I used to run to the roof whenever there was a storm. I have loved the profession of the hero in twister :)
