worn
tired
distressed
they give up,
RRrriiiiipPP!
my favorite jeans
breath their last words
foreboding my
ides of
march.
we walk on.
i walk on
walk on
walk
on
under the overpass
where strong arms
reach from the
rushing brown water,
bracing the bridge,
scrawled in white
spray paint, reads
the horizon is not
that far away.
i find peace
in that.
It was one of those mornings, today, when everything sits on your shoulders, threatening to push you into the earth. The knee ripping out of my favorite jeans was prophetic in where the day was heading, so I took a walk by the river to clear my head and some graffiti poet gave me something to ponder...

Hehee oops! We all have *those* lived in loved in jeans. Mine are heading for give years now. Love levis!
Aw. Crap. I hate it when a favorite pair of jeans wears out.
A walk is often the cure though. And a walk where you notice something to ponder even better.
Time to go shopping!!! (I know you're thrilled about that. :) )
Nice connection and good response to go for a walk to cool off and collect yourself.
I absolutely love how you can turn simple things in to beautiful poetry.
Sometimes there can be a lot of wisdom in something written with spray paint! Hope that your day got better?
Hope your walk helped you clear your head. It's horrible when your favourite jeans die on you... I had to let go of a pair that was nearly 20 yrs old...
i think i enjoyed your (poetic) explanation as much as the poem itself... *snaps fingers*
That was brilliant.
Absolutely brilliant.
I've missed your stories soo much. can't wait to catch up on the rest :)
i have missed my stories too...lol. have been more in poetry the last little bit but have a few cooking for this week.
mama-face...i know. shopping is not my forte. there better be something ont he bargain rack at Target. smiles.
More walks perhaps
Everything has it's time and place.
Hope you are renewed today my friend.
Bet the Graffiti poet was called Rip Torn...
Oh bummer Brian....an old favorite pair of jeans is like an old favorite shirt. You just can't part with it. No matter how bad it looks.
I am glad that the walk made you see things in a different way. It is amazing to see what goes on in this world and remain positive. :) I struggle daily!
I love how your mind works...the jeans sound like they're just getting to the point of perfection.
HaHa... that explains why my boys hate to part with those 'favorite jeans'. I've 'hid' them before... but always feel guilty when they are being searched for high and low.... so they show back up, behind a dresser or someplace like that. :-) I will have more understanding now. Thank you!! :-)

awe not the jeans, of all things, hope the funeral goes well, very sad mate, a man and his jeans :(
Nice of the graffiti artist to leave something fun to read instead of the usual poorly written phrases they choose.
Just be thankful it was the knee...
So deep in something so simple. Hope that weight was lifted by the end of your walk, my friend.
Isn't it funny how the right message can come along just at the right time. Now may your trousers R.I.P.
It's good that you can find beauty in unlikely places. Walking in the fresh air is a great way to put things in perspective.
I found the poem to be very funny in the beginning but then Ohh! I realized that today was not one of your days. Hope your day has turned out to be much better now?
But, Rrrrip... lol, that was funny.Enjoyed reading this so much.
I'm sorry about the music so next time beware...[sorry I still am thinking of the scenario that you've written here.]
Thank you for your comment on my latest poem.

Weekend Reflections - Green Beer
Just rip out the other knee and it will look like you paid $80 for them to be that way. LOL! Hope the sun shines on you today! :)
Kool I liked this Brian and I have had those kind of mornings also. Thanks for sharing.
Larry
I had to chuckle when I saw "RRrriiiiipPP!" - it just happenend to my favorite well worn jeans!
very poetic,
we walk,
I walk,
walk
on
you see above, beautiful shape,
the words, the images it brings, everything is perfect and cool1
You are never stupid,
A man who thinks of him as one is the smartest!
thank you for the gentleman comments!
Happy Sunday!
Happy Weekend!
hope the day has gotten better!
I hope that the walk and the street poet's words lifted you up. Thank you for giving us a peak into your writer's process. As always you inspire me.
Lisa
it has gotten better, for the most part...every once in a while life can get to be much...just got to remember i cant carry it all...
I love the ides of march and think it is a magical and mystical day full of all sorts of tricks the Universe likes to play on me, all in fun. I hope your day and burden becomes lighter.
♥namaste♥
Like it, Brian. Hope the day turned out better.
Dearest Brian,
Poor jeans! Sorry, I hope you are feeling so much better. I can hear your poor tired soul and of course the cries of your jeans.
Life can be over bearing, I am so glad you can just take your walks , walks are so important for the soul, right?
Don't worry about your stories , when it comes , it will pour.Like Ji said, you are not stupid, if you are, then I am worst, lol. Do not take yourself too seriously.
What you do, with the kids, are a very admirable yet totally draining responsibilities. Half my life, I have been working with families and kids like that. Once , after three long years of only 3 hours of sleep, I have a very near meltdown. Now I realized that I was just too hard on myself. What good are you if you do not rest your mind and soul. Give your burdens to GOD.
I only wish you well , always, Brian, you are a good man, a rare man.
hugs
shakira
..but it's always out of reach.
i was just thinking of inspirations...funny.
i LOVE jeans! I hate it when I have to throw them away cause they don't fit me anymore, or they are just worn out and ready to be thrown away..
I loved this one. It kinda took me away while reading, like i was the one walking, in the morning :)
Sometimes the words we need simply appear - such a gift to find peace when weighted down.
Your postscript was as lovely as your poetry.
I always think such well-worn jeans which have served you so well just become holier.
A man dropping his jeans always seemed a good thing to me.
I love the graffiti that inspired this piece. It is the ordinary that makes life extraordinary.
Wonder how different this prose would have been if the ASS ripped out instead of your knee...
hahahaaaaaa.....
I had to make light for you today so I could get you to smile after a hard day..did it work?
I loved this post for so many different reasons, I think I'll just leave it at that....I loved it.

Hi Brian:)
Greetings on a Sunday morning:)
A jeans which ia used without rest will tear at the knees and a person who withstands daily stress and strain will have to relax the body and mind to function with effectively. A person living is a country side can go for a long walk in the green open farm lands and a person living in a city can only walk on the overcrowed roads and see walls pasted with graffiti and cenema posters. But the most imprortant thing is to go for a walk and I have done this numerous times to relieve my tension. As the body moves and the eyes soak in the surrounding scenery the body relaxes and we find the tension slowly fading away. Sometimes we find brilliant solution to nagging problems while walking.
Your have proved this by your brillian poem in beautiful words.
Best wishes to you and your family:)
Joseph
anthropomorphism is part of the poet's heavy artillery. evocative and poignant.
masterymistery at cosmic rapture
Ah my friend, everything comes and go including our favorite jeans......so glad the walk helped you to work out things we all need to walk more......:-) Hugs
When I rip the knee of a favorite pair of jeans, I feel a connection to that garment that can't be broken.
Great post! Happy weekend!~
There are days like that, when no poetic prophet shows up...Glad yours did!
How lucky is that?
You need no pants at da beach...just sayin`
Aloha from Hawaii my Friend!
Comfort Spiral
I may not know where you were at when your pants ripped, but at least it was the knee part! Just last week, one of my co-workers ripped the seam in the seat of her pants, and the day just started! No time for her to go home and change either unfortunately.
when things like that happen, I say to myself...Och well, it can only get better from here...
You've been tagged!
Not your favorite jeans! I will light a candle. Loved the graffiti poet's message.
rips in jeans are in you know...
R.I.P. to your favorite jeans. I hate when that happens.
I hope your weekend improves.
jj
Wow...your follow up changed the entire poem for me. :-) Not near as sad the second read.
good graffiti!
i'm glad if it helped you lift your head a bit brian
It's not me needs the loan, Brian, not now you need new jeans....giggle. Nice to know you're in fashion.
I think a hole in the knee of a pair of jeans just adds character.
My wife, on the other had, thinks its time to go shopping.
I loved this Brian.
It is as if we need it most, small signs here there will lift our spirits once again.
This was truly beautiful.
Have a lovely Sunday,
xo

I have to say ripped jeans are my favourite... I have been known to put a cheeser grater to mine ;0)
I do the same thing, go for a walk to clear my thoughts and just breathe. I like that you give others time to reflect through your writing. The interesting thing is that there is no shortage of things to write about. I like that "you see" a story in everything "you see", and can somehow relate it to everyday life.
i dont think i have a pair of jeans that does not have a hole...but this was a pretty good blow out...that kept going and going...the day got much better though...along the way.
I seem to out grow my jeans before I wear them out :)
Your walk turned into something very good!!
Now you cut the jeans into cut off shorts for summer!!
I will have to pay closer attention tomorrow when I walk under the bridge on my way to class for some insights.
ah...
Also... your recent comment to Lorraine was so concise but really moving that I had to ask – are you a professional nature writer?
I really liked the symbolism in this. And wearing a pair of jeans for so long that they wear out is a good thing.....means you haven't gained any weight!! :)
isn't ripped jeans becoming fashionable again?
I hated to laugh at this, but I had to. My husband had a favorite pair for jeans for years and one day, as he stepped into them, I heard the inevitable rrrrrriiip! He'd put his foot right through the knee and away went the jeans. Never a good way to start the day...
Smile, mate! Its over :)
I love that you see poetry in everything, Brian. And, hey, my favorite pair of jeans are my favorite because the knee is ripped out. :-)
i think your graffiti guy was right on the money. sounds like you do too.
i hate it when my jeans rip . . . :(
again....this has made me laugh!!! ahahahahha!!!! i like your recent writings, they have hidden laughters in them.... :D
This kind of sign seems to happen for a reason... both the jeans and the graffiti.
what lovely words to come across ~ i always find such simple gifts hard to pass by. it's wonderful that you wrote a poem of it; i enjoyed this ♥
