drip
drip
she lets it slip
around the edge
of her coffee cup
to trickle in his ear
and fill him with fear
of the greatest monster of all,
dad.
drip
drip
it slowly takes grip
hatching maggots
in all of his stories
of times they shared
that he never even cared
until no hope at all has
dad.
relationship busted
all evidence corrupted
around the edge
of her coffee cup
it slips,
her wicked smile drips
drip
drip...

Oooooh - creepy, terrifying what parents can do to an innocent child.
yikes, Bri. Creepy is right.
Parents who destroy instead of nurturing are the essence of Evil.
It truly is sad that adults can be so insecure as to destroy love and relationships of others, based solely on fear or self-loathing.
I cannot stand my X but I lie, lie, lie like the dickens to my Macs about how I feel for him. Just because he is an asshat to me, I won't be the one to destroy a connection between father and son.
Very sad....
Very well portrayed...and scary insight.
@Lisa: I love the word "asshat." Don't the say to take a new word and use it as often and as in an ways as you can? My new word for the week.
This is one of your best, Brian. It really tells it like it is. I love that "lets it slip around the edge of her coffee cup..." Really well done.

I just got a pop=up notifying me you're on MY blog!
Kat
Chilling.
This is such a significant post and should be a poetry example in junior high school!
Sad and yes creepy at the same time. Never ceases to amaze me how some parents are so loving and others are so cruel.....:-) Hugs
yes this ran shivers down my spine, but as always u painted a very real picture, well done Brian a great post :)
Brian,
Have I mentioned you rock! You did it :). And I'm glad you did. I think we need to see a darker side in your writing. I'm with Tom, this has an edge of creepy to it!
it looks like there are two distinct takes among your accidence, it depends on how people feel at the moment!
energy, action, power are full of your page...very stunning poem!
I hope that you have a great evening, Brian.
your positive attitude, kind comments, multi-talented writing skills, and open mindedness to embrace people of all races and colors are priceless to me and to your followers...keep up your excellence in blogging and touching lives...
You Are The Greatest!
Happy Weekend!
The sun is shining,
The air is fresh,
Best regards.
This was incredibly sad because I can imagine the damage would get worse as the years went on.
I do my best to stay clear of this from the other side of the cup, if you know what I mean. Hope you had an awesome day brother. Blessings to you.
Very well written piece about a very terrible topic. Is this a new meme? And how do I get a ride on this gravy train? :)
How sad. I had no idea.
Who could do that?
unfortunately this happens way too often. very sad. very well written, too!
Disturbing and thought provoking. Rings true with some aspects of my personal experience
masterymistery at cosmic rapture
this one sounds like it would be the chalkboard skreeech to somebody out there, but it was your previous post that gave me that feelin.
both nice posts though, you should hear some of the music released by the band Assembly of Dust. It's stuff like that that makes me ponder whether y not I'm nuts.
It's scary and obviously sometimes sad how much power parents can have in a child's life.
One word stands out - maggots. Strong connotation, powerful hatred is what I hear.
Can I ask...memoir? If so, that sucks...either way, I feel sorry for that little boy.
Whoa, Brian. Very dark. Doesn't mean it isn't good though! Beautiful.
Slipping and dripping-the words just sound sinister, especially the way you used them to tell the story. Well done!
Totally creepy and evil!! Ack!!
Hugs

Not sure I get this one.
How terribly sad that any parent would deliberately wreak such devastation on a child they supposedly love. (But you wrote it brilliantly!)
No.
Hmm...
dripping into my thoughts and difficult to shake...
OH no... that's terrible!
Very well done. My goodness, Brian, I went creepily cold reading this. How different are parents!
It 's so sad, oh, I can imagine how terrifying is what parents/parent can do to a child. How could we stop this? I wonder..
First time here. I am now following you.
I love the honesty of your site.
Hope you have a great Sunday! :)
Scary stuff, how the power of parents can destroy. Loved the style!
Very smart, Brian.
Very frightening too.
Have you a great Sunday.

this one was a bit creepy. easy for me to go there when i am describing the work that i do. figured this would not be a popular one as it strikes a nerve. easy to go there. for more info, you can look up parental alienation...
Brian,
Something is wrong with your link
at Theme Thursday, just to let you know.
hugs

Great Sad Poem!
I have something for you on my blog. :)
slow poisoning...cruel.
But have a good week ahead anyway!

Reminds me of some folks I know very well. Sad, really.
I can relate to this. My Mother would always trash my father when I was a kid. I don't think that she did it on purpose, or maybe she did. I never really let it get to me, though.
This is sooooo delightfully dark.
It was sad and unsettling.
I always admire the fact that you touch upon all aspects of life; both the good and the bad.
Have a lovely Sunday,
xo

Ugh! Ugly deed!
A lot of people never should have had children...
wow gave me chills... awsome
Adults use children in all sorts of ways. Mind control is one way. This happens very often unfortunately. You did a nice job writing about it and getting people to discuss it. We need more people to be aware of all the horrible things happening to children.
I have two boys..this one hit home...

Terrible!
I really appreciate your work and please understand. I'm still learning and period of adjustment to get acquainted with this kind of tasks.
Hope you can spend time with me.

welcome back!
It is a thrill to see you shine from blog to blog!
I forget how much power I have with my words, thank you for the reminder.
Whoa, powerful. This one will for sure stay with me.
Dang! Was that eeeeeeeerie!
That is creepy. Hope it isn't true.
Nuts in May
hey there!
amazing, amazing words. deep and haunting.
: )
This is very sad. Even I've heard similar stories. Does this come out of possessiveness or sheer wickedness?
Well done, Brian
Hmm I've tried the 'drip drip' thing to try to get my own son to keep his room tidy . . .didn't work. I was lucky . . only good things were ever whispered in my ear!
Very Shakespearean. And very unnerving.
Wow. That's powerful. What a gift, the ability to say so much in so few words.
That was just downright depressing. :(
Oh, no! That's so upsetting. I did not grow up with my father and do not really know him. My mother has many faults, but she never said anything bad about him to me. She says, "Why would I speak poorly of him, I'm the one who chose him."
That is creepy and well done. I'm looking at the link to figure the rest out in a minute. . . .
Oooo, that's good. But the mere mention of maggots makes me feel like vomiting.
:(
Very creepy, and so sad. Parents who put their own need to be "right" above their childrens well-being are so not qualified to be parents.
Hi! Brian,
Wow...that is very sad the "poisoning" of a small child mind.
Thanks, for sharing!
DeeDee ;-(
Disturbing.
Unfortunate commentary on today's society and the people's inability to think beyond their own ego's. Nice!
Again... very eerie...
This kind of poison always breaks my heart. We have two separations in our church right now. One is doing the best not to talk negatively about spouse. Kids turned against this parent, even though it was the poisoning one who started an adulterous affair. And the other one seems to be the innocent party, but in reality probably drove the other away and will possibly drive children away if poison doesn't stop.
Sad.
The little bit of rhyme adds such a sinister edge.
