last kiss

I steal my first kiss in the second grade, after a merry chase around the desks. She smells fresh like lavender and soap. But never returns the favor.

I mean my first kiss in high school, and it leaves me black and blue. She smells exotic like, ripe fruit left on the street corner in the sun. Intoxication leaves me wide open, for the stiletto to slip between my ribs. Then she uses it to pick me from between the treads of her shoe.

I barter my first kiss in college for road trips on a streetcar, whimsical one night dances beneath a somber moon. Love is free, so why shouldn't it be me? No strings or fine print hidden in the margins, yet while lips are full, each heartbeat echoes in the emptiness.

I give my last kiss in a shower of pure driven snow, and it ruins me from ever seeking another. She smells like a breeze, blowing across waving fields of wheat under blue skies. Each day we relive that moment, one more kiss...as if its our last.

(On a completely different note...update on my mom: She came through surgery nicely. They put a plate and four screws into her leg, along with some wire. Wrapped it all up in a cast for Christmas...or it will look like Christmas when the grandkids are done with the markers and paint. She starts PT tomorrow...and the road to recovery begins. Thanks for all the warm thoughts, prayers and wishes yesterday. I felt the love.)

Your poor Mom took quite a spill. I am glad surgery is done. Here's to a speedy recovery!
So cute about your kids decorating her cast.
All the best.
Now go kiss your wife.

As sad as it may sound, I honestly do not remember my first kiss.

I am glad that your mom came through the surgery ok. that is wonderful news! Instead of commenting I just need to call you, lol!

What sweet memories of kisses in the past! (and present!)

We have been married for 38+ years, and we just kissed on the beach (our last night in Florida, we fly home to freezing Michigan tomorrow)...and the kiss felt like our first...
and at the same time it felt like "home"...
On another subject: So glad your mom didn't break her hip...it would have been much harder to heal. Now, make her take it easy and keep up with her pain meds. especially before she goes to P.T....it will help alot.

So we can assume the poison oak was never a problem before? I mean, that would complicate the kissing. Right?

Glad mom's doing well. A plate and screws in her leg? Ow.

PS: Still waiting for my first kiss from Otin.

You remember each of those kisses! Wow. I remember only the first one, at 13. Amazing thing, a simple kiss. Who invented kissing, anyway?

That must have been some fall. I am so sorry. That sounds like a big surgery but isn't it amazing the things they can do these days to repair broken bones.

Love the "kiss" story. I'm off to kiss my husband ;-)

yeay for Europe where kissing is a greeting ritual and the eternal confusion (one kiss, 3?..are you Dutch or German : 2 kisses, French: 1 or 4?) always breaks the ice.

Gosh your mom really has taken a nasty fall if she needed some hardware in her leg. That'll be a long recovery. Wish her all the best!!

northwestladybog.blogspot.com broke her anckle last year in a slip down the stairs and is still on the road of recovery. Not sure if your mom is in the same situation but maybe she wants to know someone she can ask questions too about recovery? Carol is a really sweet lady to talk to!

Mom will have a long way to go to catch up to me, but I am well pleased that she will not set off metal detectors. They just aren't that sensitive.

All kisses are firsts and lasts.

Hi Brian:)

Sorry to hear about your mom's operation. I pray for her speedy recovery. I hope she will be in excellent health and spirits to enjoy the Christmas season and the celebrations.

I remember my first kiss when I was in school. But it was not with a class mate of mine. She was my neighbor. It felt like I was hit by thunder and lightning. Any way it was long, long ago.

I am sure your Christmas preparations are in full swing.

Best wishes:)
Joseph

Brian...popped in today hoping for an update regarding your mom. Poor thing...I pray QUICK healing to her...and some HEAVY spoiling this Christmas...having a heavily "graffitied" cast will make her smile for sure!!

I remember my first REAL kiss...sweet memories! Lovely piece.

I just read of your mother and her broken leg...I'm glad the surgery went well and she is being discharged. I hope the pt goes smoothly. All things considered, this is wonderful news.

Sadly, the person who bestowed my first kiss was dead by the time we had our tenth reunion. I always felt a bit guilty not realising the extent of problems there.

Lovely post.

My first kiss was behind the skating rink with Ronnie Rice (a trouble maker and I the "good girl"). I was never so embarrassed. I was not expecting the tongue and I felt like I was "going to die". My last kiss was on the last date I had a couple months ago. I knew when we kissed, it would not work out. A kiss is so telling.

Love it - too funny you stole your first kiss in second grade. A boy stole his first kiss from me in Kindergarten! ;)

So sorry about your mom - glad she's OK! ((HUGZ!!))
