Hello...
Hey there...

Each passing day, the silence grows pregnant with possible outcomes, bearing its full weight on the phone. Assumptions solidify into reality, hearts cooling until a thin layer of frost crystallizes into ice. Justification over throws reason as your finger hovers over the final digit, like Sisyphus your rock rolls back down the hill at the solid clap of the closing phone.
Is the price of your pride worth more than the relationship?
Make the call. Let them decide if they are ready to accept it.
Hello...
Hey there...
It's been a long time...
Too long...
I am so glad you called...
Me too...

Oh, how many times I have been there! I actually have one of those type situations now!
That is the second time today that I have seen Sisyphus! Before today, I have not heard that since high school! LOL!
i just had a call like that. and several of the wrong number variety.
No. Prife is not worth the relationship but it is hard to convince people of that.
I had a bit of catching up here. Congratulations on the Honest Scrap Award. You worked in 27 states? I knew about your dancing partner/love interest. Glad to know that you and yur sister are back in touch.
I just had to tell someone as much the other day. If you're ready to talk, it's time to start talking. Don't try to guess whether or not the other person thinks it's time to talk. What if they're waiting and guessing about you too? You'll both sit silently waiting for each other forever.
I've had that call in my imagination many times. Yet... oddly... when the "call" (email) came to me, it was not exactly satisfying or welcome. Never is. Stick with the true.
guess we've all been there...guess some of us still are...arggghhh. nice one--stupid telephones
I'm so bad at these things. I prefer to just go away. I am never the one to pick up the phone. Never.
My mom was playing phone games like this. I finally just called her. She might be older than me....
but I try to be the grown up for us :-)
Hello there.. This is my first Theme Thursday:-)
This really rings a bell! Ha! Couldn't resist..This reminds me of a friend I once had and both of us were too stubborn to call or contact one another for a long time. I talked to her this summer, but it was so awkward. I've just accepted that she was in my life for a season and a purpose but now that time has passed.
welcome rebecca...some relationships are like that...if they are going to end i would rather i at least tried...
otin...it must be catching...
ace...someone has to be...
alix...email sucks for reconciliation...its better used for assasination. sorry.
I think we've all been in that situation...more times than we care to admit...another pride thing.
I've received calls like this that ended much better than expected. I've also made one that didn't end as well. *sigh* I tried.
if only the outcomes were like that.I jsut reid this today yet again to no avail. tehre is only so much one can hear sometimes befor eit gets too painful.
This rings so true... ;) I've been there. Love this, Brian! :)
That's hard to do. Not always because you fear you'll fail, but because you fear you'll succeed.
Intriguing....
Very nice, Brian. Only thing... sometimes they are not glad you called. Or YOU are not glad you called. Or something. I think I've confused myself. ;o)
Such a great way with words. Oh yes, that ugly pride sure does get in the way if we let it!
Sometimes that phone feels like it weighs about 200 pounds to me. Just not my thing. Great post!
Nicely expressed. You sure conveyed the feeling to which I can relate but these days, that's what email is for... so that we can articulate what needs to be said without all the awkward "umm"s and silences. I'm usually more comfortable with having hit "send" than hearing the phone ringing on the other end of the line.
Brian I have an estranged brother. His wife recently asked for my phone number via facebook and I sent it. I'm still waiting for the call . .I can't call them first. Don't ask why. I just can't. Perhaps I should.
I have this strange relationship with phones; I like them and the thought of them as they mean safety. But I hate talking to someone on the phone. Perhaps it comes from the fact that as long as I can remember, I have never spoken any language well, being a foreigner everywhere, I was worried of not being understood.
I have always been a *face to face talking* person.
;)
Good advice. Pride gets in the way so often.

Beautiful..I'm glad you called your sister x
For so very many reasons.... -j
The phone can be such a powerful tool.
What a great post Brian. So short yet so full of meaning.
Everyone's been there. What an awkward, uncomfortable moment. Bleck!
i'm glad the call was made...
Good Story... Nice way to fix up breaking relationships..

Yes, it can be awkward restablishing contact but it's almost always so worth it. So glad for you Brian.
I really realy love it Brian!Well done!;)
I think everyone can relate to this one!
Working up the inner strength to make the call is all we can do. If the person we are calling is willing, the call is a success. If not, at least we tried.
Interesting take.
Assasination by e-mail, hmmmm. My Dad said, "never put it in print or sign your name to it". I stick to pots of goo on the stove and pins to the dolls gluteus maximus. Do you remember when we could 'unsend'? Miss that. Make the call, full speed ahead. xoxo
Been there, done that.
This is really good. The line about Sisyphus really grabbed me.
Great post, Brian, as always. I've been there, too! I think there are always things people should keep to themselves and others they should try to communicate. Some do not understand the difference.
Love your blog and you are deserving of those awards...just say thank you and accept them.
what i suggest is definitely not easy, and it does not always go as well as my final one there...but i would guess mostly we imagine these calls would not go good and it keeps us from making them...or maybe its just me...
Been there, done that, with both good and unhappy endings. Happy TT
Weird how anxiety can rise over pushing that last button of a number!!
Excellent TT Brian!
Great post. Remember the time before caller ID and we actually answered every call?
Great post, Brian.
hmmmmm, i haven't really had this experience...I just call, LOL! Maybe I have...if so it has been a long time.
Great writing!
much love
Very true. I have a few people in my life right now that fall into that category. I don't think I'm ready to make that call.
Well, that is a post pretty much everyone can relate to. I am not ready to make one of those calls, myself. Just not there yet.
Poignant, straight to the heart, and so beautifully written! Hard as it is to understand and take, pride always gets the better of us that by the time we realize how foolishly we had traded our lives and the people in exchange for it, it is already too late.
The only failure in that situation is not dialing/trying.
If I start writing a list of the calls I need to make, it'll take all day. Maybe two...
This is SO true. It's possible both parties are sitting on their end of the phone wondering whether they should make that call or not. Sometimes we need to put our pride aside and just pick up that phone! Cheers! :)
Make the call...okay, I'm taking that advice. Sometimes it's not that the relationship is wrong its that too much time has past as in "I'll call tomorrow when I get a moment" and tomorrow never comes. Gotta go make some calls now!
A conversation I'm sure many wish they'd have had.
I most certainly have a call I could make like that.
Made that call 11 days ago ~ to end the calls that tore my heart apart every time I heard the voice on the other end. That was tough too; however, there's a freedom in the finality when it's necessary too.
Great post Brian.

I'm sorry, I have the wrong blog post

Hello?
Nice job Brian...
I am not answering the phone today....
Oh nice. Such a relief when those calls go well. :-)
great! Yes the phone is a great way to divide or to bring us closer...and all at 5 cents a minute!
What a great message! Too many conflicts in important relationships never heal because each party is waiting for the other to call.
colette, five cents...i need your calling plan...lol.
I can relate but I didn't make the call, it came to me, and although the words weren't what I thought they were going to be, I accepted what was said, and that damned phone has not stopped ringing since. LOL!
Thanks for sharing Brian.
Can a number ever be wrong, in a metaphysical sense?
I sent an email (not a phone call) in that vein, on Thursday. No reply yet...
If you don't try.. you'll never know..
Just spoke with one of my oldest dearest friends yesterday. I'd called him the night before, on impulse, but he was on a tv sound stage working. He promised to call me the next day. And he did! It was great. We spoke for 30 minutes
this evokes such a familiar feeling - i recognise this!
heart warming
Didn't I read somewhere that you were a counselor or a teacher? If not, you should be, because you seem to be for the downtrodden or underdog. You have a kind heart.
