I think we all agree that the ozone has holes, the polar ice caps are melting and corporations who profit on those calamities are morally reprehensible.
If it looks like you can see sea where the north pole is, it must be because the ice cap is gone, what is the bloody debate about?

We move for two reasons, to gain profit or avoid discomfort. Right now, just noise is all we make. By the time most of us can feel the discomfort, it will be too late for our planet. Meanwhile, those folks who are getting rich by ignoring the signs are waiting for someone to make them pay attention. If we all demand action from our leaders, we might succeed.
Let's keep talking and electing good people.
It would help the debate if some of the big wigs shouting the needs would live a lifestyle that echoed their words. (gigantic energy sucking mansions, private jets, etc)

i realise that i stirred the pot but did not get very practical...a few thoughts: reduce or eliminate paper products, hand wash dishes as a family, car pool, consider down sizing your vehicle, unplug electronics not in use that use a phantom charge(TV, computer, etc.), disable your ice maker and use bags of ice, plant a tree, eat of out your garden, join a co-op, set a standard house temp, have your kids help make recycling bins to get them involved, then use them, check for leaks around windows and doors....
just a few thoughts, many we have tried, some we do regularly...

I love the practical suggestions you make in your comments as they are easy to achieve but if we all do so, they have a huge impact
one reaction: in Belgium (europe) we keep on hearing that using a dishwashing machine is more environmentally friendly than washing the dishes by hand!!!!! The new machines use very very little water & soap and would beat the human alternative. Striking if that would be true huh!
exactly! Crichton's book points out precisly that the finger pointers and loudest among us use as much or more rescources...but of course they are justified!
Whether you believe in climate change or not, taking care of the environment just makes good sense for our future. Who wants to live with a pile of plastic floating in our ocean?

I read this post yesterday and I didn't know how to word my comment. My ex-coworkers and I were reprimanded at work for recycling. Do you know how much cardboard is involved with shipping goods to a store? Tons! My old manager would throw out almost all of it until we stepped in and recycled most of it in a dumpster for recyclable items that was only 20 feet from the garbage dumpster. I kind of makes me sick that more people aren't worried about the impact that we are having on our beautiful planet.

More often than not it becomes a political issue, but surely keeping our trash in order, reducing consumption and recycle is NOT POLITICAL (except maybe with your children lol). ;)
There is a climate meeting in Copenhagen soon; I think your poem would be a great opening to that conference.
