An inconvenient truth,
left wing alarmist
liberal
clap trap
pointing to
another silent eco
extinction by
right wing corporate
conservative
filibusters.
is it a political
or
moral question?
maybe spiritual.
surely economical,
too cha-ching,
to clean
up.
perhaps if it gets
enough checks
in front of these
columns
it will get some
attention,
more than
hollow rhetoric.
no matter
where you
sit
on the fence,
know your convictions,
own your role.
one last thing,
the world
does
not
need
is another
loud mouth
spectator
pointing fingers
to clog up
the machine,
afraid to
get them
dirty.

More Vikings, I reckon...
That is a call to action!
If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.
clap
clap
clap.
and a big yeah at Mango Girl.
I think we all agree that the ozone has holes, the polar ice caps are melting and corporations who profit on those calamities are morally reprehensible.
If it looks like you can see sea where the north pole is, it must be because the ice cap is gone, what is the bloody debate about?
I love it!
We move for two reasons, to gain profit or avoid discomfort. Right now, just noise is all we make. By the time most of us can feel the discomfort, it will be too late for our planet. Meanwhile, those folks who are getting rich by ignoring the signs are waiting for someone to make them pay attention. If we all demand action from our leaders, we might succeed.
Let's keep talking and electing good people.
It would help the debate if some of the big wigs shouting the needs would live a lifestyle that echoed their words. (gigantic energy sucking mansions, private jets, etc)
Well said, as always.
Love it.
I like the run of this prose. A read in running. -J
i realise that i stirred the pot but did not get very practical...a few thoughts: reduce or eliminate paper products, hand wash dishes as a family, car pool, consider down sizing your vehicle, unplug electronics not in use that use a phantom charge(TV, computer, etc.), disable your ice maker and use bags of ice, plant a tree, eat of out your garden, join a co-op, set a standard house temp, have your kids help make recycling bins to get them involved, then use them, check for leaks around windows and doors....
just a few thoughts, many we have tried, some we do regularly...
Interesting take, Brian.
I like your angle on this. nicely written
No matter where you stand or how you think the hot air is building...but not by you! so brief and yet so compelling...well done.
Hoo-fucking-ray. Excuse me.
And I'm with Vodka Mom
And yay to Mango
There's no such thing as a bad reminder where this topic is concerned. It's much easier to make a difference than many people seem to think.
I love the practical suggestions you make in your comments as they are easy to achieve but if we all do so, they have a huge impact
one reaction: in Belgium (europe) we keep on hearing that using a dishwashing machine is more environmentally friendly than washing the dishes by hand!!!!! The new machines use very very little water & soap and would beat the human alternative. Striking if that would be true huh!
exactly! Crichton's book points out precisly that the finger pointers and loudest among us use as much or more rescources...but of course they are justified!
Whether you believe in climate change or not, taking care of the environment just makes good sense for our future. Who wants to live with a pile of plastic floating in our ocean?
creative take on climate change. well done.
Interesting Brian, I say let's really follow the wind...;)
Hasn't the climate always been changing?
Every little bit counts.
If you want to get really confused. watch "The Great Global Warming Swindle" and you won't know which side is right. Reuse, Recycle REDUCE. It might not stop Global Warming but it will help the environment. Oh that Mango Girl has a head on her shoulders!
I suppose we'd things differently if we lived on a low-lying island.
RR, i imagine so. dont read this wrong...its really a call to all to take up their part regardless of affiliations.
Mango is spot on. they ought to make it inta a cuntry song. smiles.
Mango Girl said it all for me. Well done Brian. Sometimes you don't need to point out particulars to get the point across.
Very original take on that theme!
So very true,
The choices we think we made
Are made by others.
Excellent post
Very classy blog you have here Brian...
You've done well....Galen
gman, thanks man, my 55 is loaded, ready to go for tomorrow.
goofball, intersting. iguess if you keep running water to rinse the dishes that definitely makes sense.
Brian, men and women are included in the Sisterhood Award, a way to join hands and speak with one voice. Go on, post it on your blog. Tessa was kind enough to break the mold and hand it to her favorite men too. I'd be honored and touched.
What Betsy said is so right on target. I often think that.
I like your poem, and very interesting comments. I don't know what I think, except for what I know: we need to make and consume less in order to protect the environment and our own sense of well-being.
Yes, down with another "loud mouth spectator"!! Good writing about an oh so important subject.
I think there is too much politicking and not enough action. This really should not be about affiliations. Thanks for sharing, Brian.
"too cha-ching
to clean
up"
Ain't THAT the "inconvenient truth"!
@Leah - Hear! Hear!
Wow. You have such a way with bringing a concept down to the core.
Well done. :-)
Right on the money !!! Well said !
aint that the truth!
That was somewhat thought-provoking, Brian. Well done.
I read this post yesterday and I didn't know how to word my comment. My ex-coworkers and I were reprimanded at work for recycling. Do you know how much cardboard is involved with shipping goods to a store? Tons! My old manager would throw out almost all of it until we stepped in and recycled most of it in a dumpster for recyclable items that was only 20 feet from the garbage dumpster. I kind of makes me sick that more people aren't worried about the impact that we are having on our beautiful planet.
green eyed, that is seriously wrong...
Yes! There is a LOT Of talk, but not much action.
Nice one Brian!
A lot of meaning for a small amount of words!!!
From your mouth to our government's ears.
I completely love this. There is definitely a lot of worthless chatter and not enough action.
All I can think of now is man-bear-pig, half man, half bear, and half pig. How's that for a topical reference?
Must say I agree with Mango Girl.
If everyone did yes one little thing it would go a long way in the saving of the environment.
Hi Brian! Yes, everyone should do their part. We cannot idly sit and wait for the next Ketsana or Katrina...
More often than not it becomes a political issue, but surely keeping our trash in order, reducing consumption and recycle is NOT POLITICAL (except maybe with your children lol). ;)
There is a climate meeting in Copenhagen soon; I think your poem would be a great opening to that conference.
Well written as always.
;)
Right on!
Yes!
I'm with Protege. Props.
Definetly makes you think.
