365

you were so much easier than your brother. except the early hour, when it was time, it was time and your mother nudged me awake and two hours later a tear rolled down my face when you first cried. you smiled. we smiled. life was new.

365 days.

even at a young age you have a boldness, an adventurous spirit, getting into things you really do not know you shouldn't. the places we find you and make us wonder where our easy little boy went.

365 days.

you learn faith, falling backward out of the tree house, your legs entangling the wooden steps, dangling precariously you smile and declare you must do it again, and then again maybe you learn that life can not be tackled on mine own.

365 days.

you learn balance, on the back of a skateboard, catching air across the ramp, skinning your knees, creating battle scars of memory. we all fall, we don't all get up, but you do. you give away your allowance just to see people smile.

365 days.

you learn freedom, the wind in your hair as you ride your bike for the first time without training wheels. your little legs never tiring you would ride all day if we let you. your heart shines in the way you encourage your brother that has not learned yet.

365 days.

years tick by faster and faster, no matter how we try to hold back the sands of the hour glass, or capture moments through the lens. what will you do with the next...

365 days.

Cole turned 5 today.

What a cool little dude.

And what an exceptional father. What I wouldn't give to have had a father - or mother - like that. My parents were full of words like: don't, you can't, you're getting a blistering for that... There was no poetry in their love. Come to think of it... there wasn't much love.

So, joyous happy birthday wishes to Cole and his proud papa. Do cherish the beauty of your magical memories.

What a tribute to an adorable boy! Enjoy each and every one of those 365 days! If I could go back in time I would take more time to enjoy my children every day. It all flies by so quickly. Just remember that with every trial you endure with them will eventually result in an apology when they experience the same thing with your grandchildren!

I, in my early training at The Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science, over 25 years ago, was instructed, "Know what your first five years brought to you, be in spirit and in joy as you were when five years of age, and you will be graceful with life, remain young in heart, open to curiosity, adventure, discovery and delight.

I have paid heed, and so I have filled my days with such guidance. Having a 15 year old grand daughter and a 12 year old grandson, and yet the joy of a 5 year old in heart, indeed serves me well.

I was told also to join a 5 year old boy in its play, in its questioning, in its mood throughout the day, and to do the same with a 5 year old girl, live their perspectives, and join them in the way they perceive their world.

So enjoy the instruction of your 5 year old son and be the wisdom of his way in joy.

HAPPY BIRTH DAY - every day.

Best always,

Rose Marie

Hi Brian:)

My belated birthday wishes to your wonderful son Cole. He is a charmer.

Children at this age have a divine spark in them. It will be wonderful to keep this divine spark as long as possible.

A lovely tribute to your son. I hope he reads this post when he grows up and has a family of his own. You are a wonderful father. Kudos to you.

Have a wonderful day Brian:)
