It's Christmas time...Elf was on last night, tonight it's the Grinch...who knows what goodness of Christmas movie tomorrow will bring. My favorite Christmas movie is Nestor the Long Eared Christmas Donkey. I know, many of you will probably have to Google that one. Circa 1977, it does not get a whole lot of air time today. It's the story of a donkey (go figure) born in the days of the Roman Empire. His VERY long ears keep getting him into trouble. His owner throws him out of the stable in disgust, during a blizzard, and his mother sacrifices her life to keep him alive. (Keep the Kleenex handy.) Then guided only by his guardian cherub (Tilly), he has to find his rightful place and destiny.
It reminds me that we all have a place in the story, no matter what circumstances we are born into. This is a truth too many of us forget, in the shadow of disappointment. We give in to the "Roman soldiers" that want to tell us otherwise. Also, like his mom, our destiny may be to sacrifice so that others may live.

I do not remember that one. I must have benn doing something else at the time.
I own it on dvd. We'll bring it home for our Christmas visit.
Haven't seen that one but lots of imagery in this one. I agree that many times sacrifice is what we are called to do for others-especially when others are not watching. After all our rewards are not in this world, right?
One of my favs as well. Thanks for the insights. I'll be watching it with new eyes.
Oh, your dad commented!
Love that!
Have never watched this movie but now I must watch it!
Wonderful message in it!
