Lines in the Road

There are times when we think we know all the answers.

Once when I was much younger, we were traveling somewhere as a family and as sometimes happens when stuck in close proximity for long distances, arguments began. This time it happened to be about the length of the dashed lines in the middle of the road. Looking out the front window, I could tell they were no more than a foot long. My dad on the other hand insisted they were much longer. After trying in vain to get me to relent, he stopped the car and we got out to look at the lines. It’s amazing what changes when you are not going 65 miles per hour.

Now older, I understand, sometimes you have to stop the car, to get the right perspective.

Thanks for the reminder. We all tend to move at such a hurried and harried pace that the world we see is not a true reflection of reality. Slow down, stop for even just a moment ... this can make all the difference in the world.

Good thoughts Daniel. As I was writing, I was thinking about how our own needs and goals sometimes skew our ability to "hear" what others are saying or see from their perspective. Especially when you introduce emotions.

So true-I woke up this morning to an Amy Grant( you may have heard your parents talk about her:)Christmas song. The chorus said 'I need a silent night, a holy night. I need a midnight clear..." We can seize the day, but let's not miss the moments that surround us each hour-God is in them too.
