My weekly ration of television consists of two main food groups...Monday night - Heroes and Sunday night - The Unit. Actually, my wife started me on The Unit. What an amazing woman!A quote from this weeks episode, "Inspiration is a momentary cessation of stupidity." I can not begin to fathom the depths of my stupidity at times. (Sure that one will get me some comments.) But we can all probably count those moments in our life when the tumblers clicked, when everything came together in perfect symmetry. When our eyes were opened and we saw the truth, opportunity, or hope.
These are crazy times. The newsreel on Yahoo details recession, terrorist attacks, orphans, babies dying from milk. You don't have to go far to read about Sudan, Thailand, India, Cypress and the list goes on. It can be overwhelming. Or it can be inspiring.
Inspiration without perspiration leads to stagnation. Its easy to talk or grumble about, it's another to do something about it. You may not fix all the worlds problems, you may never travel outside of your hometown, but we all have something to give...time, money, talent, resources, hope or prayer. There is a Hope greater than our present circumstance. We show that Hope in how we respond.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, It is the only thing that ever has. -Margaret Mead
As a good friend of mine reminds me often, Go Change the World!

Inspiration, perspiration, stagnation -- sounds like you have been channelling Jesse Jackson or maybe Don King. I have trouble telling them apart sometimes.
I have also noticed that their is a strong negative correlation between my level of laziness and my level of inspiration. When one goes down, the other goes up. Sloth sometimes has a very tight grip on me in certain areas.
I think many of us suffer from the need to be inspired before we detach ourselves from the Lazy-Boy. What do you think it is that causes the up and down and continuous need for new inspiration?
Lol on the "channeling" comment. I can honestly say it is the first time I have been accused of channeling those guys. ha.
As humans we struggle to maintain focus and drive without motivating factors. There is more and more a push for extrinsic motivation and everything comes easily for us (especially in suburbia america). Too long we have gone without having to fight to put food on the table. This has left us lazy and without the internal drive to truly succeed and progress. We need a kick in the pants!
Motivation.... sheesh, I often need some legit motivation to get hyped for any number of situations. Work... studying for small groups... shaving my man-beard... putting up with 757 traffic.. etc etc. Sometimes an upbeat, high-volume anthem-esque song does it for me. Or just wrapping my head around the concept of God being in control of whatever may be stressin' me out... that's always a good thing to reflect on in the thick-of-things
Do you still watch movies at night time?
very interesting post!
Brian, I think you are an inspiration!
