A woman kneels in pools of tears, offering prayers for a husband/son
fighting wars on distant shores.
An empty womb becomes a tomb,
For a mother whose baby dies,
Why do they die so young?
A family strewn across the miles,
Like so much tinsel on living room floors,
Wonders when can we be home?
A child, stomach extended beyond it's knees
The only Christmas present they receive
Is life for another day.
When jingle bells ring,
What songs do you sing,
When memories dwell,
What stories do you tell,
When Christmas should be Heaven,
But seems like hell.
While Christmas is a time of celebration and happiness for most, it is a time of stress and despair for others. Feelings of isolation or depression can choke out the joy. The end of the year is a time of reflection which can be tough for those that have experienced death, divorce, separation from loved ones or loss of a job. It can be hard to see the Hope that is Christmas.
You may be the only Christmas they have. Love Richly, Give Generously, Live Inclusively, Be Christmas.

Reflections after listening to Christmas Makes Me Cry by Mandisa and Matthew West. Definately worth a listen.

Excellent post, especially this year as so many families are doing without money, clothing, and in some cases...doing without family. We all need to find ways to reach out to those around us and make sure people have at least a "family" to spend the holidays with.
You certainly inspire me with your words and your attitude. God bless you.
You are becoming a posting Jedi. Keep up the good posts.
great post. This is a very tought time for many that deal with depression and grief. Reach deep for the joy inside.
this is superb poem,
it falls perfectly into places,
your talent on poetry shines maybe because you have the gift but did not realize it until recently...
Keep it up,
you entertain thousands of hundreds of people!
Your images are very strong...empty womb becomes a tomb...strewn across the miles like tinsel across the floor. I really like the structure and use of words to create powerful images.I think this is one of the best I've read of yours. Fabulous.
